“Go for lunch for sure.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2014

Had a fantastic cheeseburger in paradise. Original Rum Punch best ever. Service is first class. Location not exactly close to anything but definitely worth the drive. Cottages look very nice with private plunge pools. Grounds are worth walking around to take photos.

I have been eating at Ottley's Plantation Inn and hiking their trails enjoying the view for over fifteen years. Whether leading a group of fifteen students and faculty on one of my Caribbean Culture Seminars or dining with my family or taking my mother Millie Hetzel to a special dinner near the end of her life or doing the same with John Delvaille and Nan Wiegersma of Fitchburg State or Julie Swan of the Bahai Center in Basseterre and Peterborough , N.H and or dining with Kittitians Calypso Reggie and Lyndon "Shumaker" Johnson and Lewis Bennett of of Sandy Point, my experiences have always been outstanding ones. Everyone is made to feel welcome at St. Kitts most upscale of all places.

Ottley's is worth the drive and I always go for Lunch because , given the quality of food, you just can't do any better. Don't forget to go on the free guided private Rain Forest Walk and I have never been asked to leave one of the hammock style lawn chairs if arrive early for coffee in the late morning or linger on well after my delicious dessert.

This is also the most romantic fine dining place in all of the Caribbean that I have visited. You will love the drive out. If you leave from the Conaree near the airport you can reach it on the island road in less than thirty minutes....the drive is spectacular (stay left) and then just keep going on around and visit all the sites on the way back to Basseterre or on your way to a Frigate Bay hotel.

I have never taken a trip to St. Kitts and Nevis without including at least two stops for lunch or dinner or the spectacular Sunday brunch with local folk music played by the wonderful Kittitian musicians who are keeping the old culture alive and blending it with the new.

Hats off to Ottley's. There is always a warm Caribbean Welcome and most of the staff are local citizens of one of the finest Democracies in the Caribbean

We decided to drive up the east side of St Kitts and have lunch at the Royal Palm at Ottley's Plantation Resort. Thinking that there would be a gas station along the east coast, I began the trek with less than a quarter of a tank. Driving on fumes we turned from the highway to this magnificent restoration of a world not seen for the past 300 years. Not only was the lunch fantastic, but Marty the owner gladly supplied a fews gallons of gas to get us back to Base Terre. I spoke to other lunch goers who were staying in the villas and they all had nothing but great reviews for the accommodations, the food and the overall service.
Thanks again Marty for a great day.

Amazing vacation coupled with magnificent food. Visited the plantation on a previous trip to the island and decided to stay. I splurged and stayed in a private villa with a pool. The room was immaculate and spacious. Room 25. The staff and owners treat you like family. The grounds and flowers are spectacular and the owner knows every inch of the property. A wonderful trip....".Try the Banana pancakes...to die for". Joe Bell

Room Tip: Go for the Gusto with a private villa

All the reviews you've read are true. Ottley's is the ultimate in colonial elegance. You can be active or inactive as you choose here. This 35 acre plantation is a magnificent hideaway. Much kudos goes to the owners and dedicated staff for making Ottley's a great escape.

My cosy unit (#10, a "standard" room with an ocean view) had all the amenities you would ever need on an island (flashlight, hair dryer, robes, iron, coffee/tea maker and room safe). Electrical outlets are 110 volts so there is no need to bring a converter if you are coming from the U.S. Cosy sometimes refer to small but my room was spacious and attractively furnished. This room would also be great for a couple as the unit is located within a two-room cottage.

I selected the breakfast plan which allowed me to have the ability to check out other restaurants during my stay. Breakfasts were plentiful and varied with generous portions. One day I treated myself to dinner onsite which exceeded my expectations. My meal was fresh and well pepared. You have the option of having meals prepared "light" or with sauce on the side. They are very accommodating. Dinner menu changes daily.

Freebies - 1/The tap water is untreated natural spring water and is completely safe to drink. More importantly, it is very good tasting. 2/WiFi is available in select common areas 3/Complimetary van shuttle service is available daily to downtown Basseterre and nearby beaches. They also drop off guests at the ferry terminal that takes you to St. Kitt's sister island, Nevis (MV Caribe Breeze is a good ferry service)
4/Check out the rain forest trail in back of the restaurant. At one point I felt like I was going to see an Avatar character pop up as it was just the right setting to have that happen. I traveled solo and was not hesitant to explore the trail alone during the day.

Ottley's is isolated (in a good way) and a quiet retreat. You are truly transported to a bygone era of gracious living and hospitality. This is a very special space. There is a respect to nature on this property. Where can you experience the beauty of mountains behind you, the sea in front of you and the gardens all around you in one location?

Expensive? Yes. Regrets? No. A great respite from the outside world awaits you.

Room Tip: You could never get a bad room here. Whatever you select, the mountains are behind you the sea is i...

The hotel came highly recommended and we were not disappointed. Excellent food , very attentive service, bedroom was spacious ( number 9) with own personal space. Gardens manicured and interesting walks through adjoining rain forest. Great views from the main house . We would certainly return.

15th to 29th April 2014
We had read previous reviews for Ottleys, but nothing prepared us for the reality! We booked a room with a plunge pool. (rm 26). When we arrived and were shown to our room we were totally captivated. The room was spacious and beautifully furnished and the bathroom was equally so. We particularly enjoyed the jacuzzi. The patio area with plung pool was very secluded and private with stunning views over the grounds and the odd glimps of monkeys.
Service and food were excellent, and nothing was too much trouble. Marti and Karen are the perfect hosts. Marti is very passionate about the garden and keen to show his guests around. Karen took us to see Gracie the donkey who is currently pastured out in the countryside.
We hired a car while we were there and visited the islands many historic sites. The Romford estate and Caribelle Batik stood out.
Our favourite beach was Cockleshell which also has the Spice Mill Restaurant. A lovely beach for swimming, and good food. Out favourite bar was The Shipreck. The atmosphere is lively and friendly, and the food is also great.
We had a completely relaxing two weeks. Very highly recommended.

Room Tip: Would go for a room with plunge pool if you can afford, but all rooms are lovley
