We had an excellent week at Ottleys from 6th October, thanks to a recommendation from our agent Sarah from BestAtTravel.co.uk. Ottleys is a very picturesque old plantation house converted into an Inn with additional deluxe cottages built in the spacious grounds. It looks stunning as you approach from the long driveway. We were the first visitors after the re-opening of Ottleys after their English summmer closure.
We stayed in one of the cottages which had it's own plunge pool and had lovely furnishings and everything we needed, plus a splendid view down the hill to the sea in the distance. There are no tv's in the rooms but this was not a problem for us. We also looked over a room in the great house and this was also superb.
Despite not being on the beach, there is a daily shuttle to a beach 15 minutes away with a superb packed lunch, chairs and umbrella. However, there is a lovely pool if you just want to mooch around for the day. There is also a rain forest walk, not too difficult and we saw the monkeys having a great time. The spa wasn't open while we were there so can't report on that.
The food and service is excellent and the staff are very friendly and efficient. The owners Art and Ruth are very warm and friendly and daughter Nancy and son-in-law Marty were extremely helpful during our stay. If you want a good account of the history of St Kitts, ask Marcus behind the bar, but all the staff were delightful and Patrice must be the best front desk receptionist in St Kitts.
Since this was very early season, I am not sure whether our minor gripe applies later on, but there was no evening entertainment and the piped music was generally classical. We would have liked a bit of caribbean music , if only the steel band type and piped, to enjoy with our breakfast and evening meal.
