If you are looking for a place that is antiseptic clean, impersonal and 5 star hotel type, Please go somewhere else! If you are looking for a laid back, well broken in, friendly every body knows your name and the owner is your new best friend place read on.
I did some research here on TripAdvisor, on the Pirates Point web page and through a few other reviews. I set my expectations accordingly. I wanted insanely good diving, A friendly safe dive staff, and some really good food. My expectations were not only exceeded but blown away.
The dive staff is great, very professional, attentive and safe. If you want to go off on your own with your buddy you are free to, but if you stick with the Dive Master you are sure to see things you would have missed (Like a baby sea horse!) (Thanks GAY).
I took 4 PADI classes during my stay, I felt like I was at DIVE COLLEGE and my instructors Peter and Ingrid were more than thorough. Most classes I’ve taken you are lucky if the Instructor even goes over the chapter reviews with you. Here I was grilled royally. Consequently I still remember what I learned!
Gladys (the owner) is a trip! She is friendly, funny and just plain fun to be around. She is also the most famous person on the Island. You will love her I promise. The atmosphere is like staying at a family beach house. The bar is open and well stocked the bar and sitting area is decorated by art from former guests its really pretty good stuff, very creative. There is an Arts and Craft area where you can create your own stuff too! This is where every one hangs around before dinner, enjoying a few drinks and the happy hour food.
The food is to die for. Every meal is gourmet and the deserts are decadent almost sinful.
I would not miss a meal for any reason. The seating is family style and the dinning room is very nice, comfortable. Don’t be surprised if the person pouring your wine happens to be the Dive Master you dove with this morning. (Hey it’s a small place) And of course Gladys picks a table and eats with the guests unless some lucky couple from another resort gets a reservation, then she eats with them. (Really I saw people from other resorts actually begging for a reservation)
Again the diving was insane, the Dive Masters I was with Peter, Ingrid, Gay and Martha were very nice and very knowledgeable. Gay knows so much about the Island and the waters you could say she wrote the book Actually she DID write a book. Available in the gift shop! (plug)
I was there 3 months ago and just booked my return. Three weeks. I can’t wait.
