“Our week at the Caymans”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2013

We booked a 2 bedroom at Sunset Cove. I really can not say anything bad . The condos are a bit older but was clean and good view on them all. The front was good for snorkeling at the Reef. We enjoyed it. A few minutes walk to 7 mile beach. You need water shoes to go over some rockier areas. There are some trees and a man made concrete stone walkway to 7 mile beach. Did not bother us at all. The pool area was really nice. The locals live in the back at treasure island but not one bit of trouble. We walked to Georgetown and up and down the beach snorkled and had a great time. We rented a car and really did not use it more than 3 days to see the other parts of the island. I did not like the driving on the wrong side thing. This area great for older kids and adults. Beach area rocky for small children but it was just us . No it is not the Ritz, but i like nice but comfy and cosy not stuffy.Management was great. Beach not crazy. Loved it.

Room Tip: No rooms are bad. All have a great view closer to the ocean i am sure quieter. We were in the center...

Ive stayed her at least a dozen times. On the Georgetown side of Seven Mile Beach. They did a beach renovation a couple of years ago and it is fabulous. Great snorkeling. Protected swimming area. The complex has a big pool with a swim up bar. Billy Bones restaurant serves a full bar and a better than you would expect food selection. Say Hi to Jesse who is the head bartender. Sunset Cove has 2 bedroom units off the water and 3 bedroom units on the water. I almost always stay on the water. Huge patios facing the Caribbean sea. Grocery store close. Rent a car and use this as your base to explore.

Room Tip: Bring friends and get a 3 bedroom unit on the 3rd floor. Incredible views.

Sunset Cove is a very nice place to enjoy a relaxing vacation. The complex is nicely maintained with a onsite rental manager. We stayed in an ocean front 3 bedroom unit. The unit was nice but is starting to show some wear and tear. Keep in mind that you are not paying the same as the Ritz, so you should not expect the same conditions as the Ritz. The deck is awesome - large and the best view you could imagine.

Great snorkeling in the cove and just outside the cove. Billy Bones (the pool bar) was enjoyable and had some of the best food we ate all week

We loved our first trip to Grand Cayman and like forward to returning sometime in the not too distant future. We would consider staying here again.

Our family has been to Cayman 6 times, we love it there. This is the third time we have stayed at Sunset Cove and have found that this is the best location...walking distance to many restaurants, shops and town, a big plus for our teenage kids not needing to be driven everywhere! We always stay in the 3 bedroom oceanfront units, the best value for that amount of space and view. The beach is 100% better since they built the cove . Debbie in the rental office is awesome! Some day we hope to buy our own unit there.

This is our second visit to Sunset Cove and it is truly paradise. Ocean front with a great protected cove for swimming and snorkeling, wonderful sunset views, pool and the pool bar. We never rented a car - just walked to restaurants. I signed up for a week of unlimited yoga at Bliss - a 15 minute walk away - and loved it! This is a place you can truly relax and enjoy the beautiful beach.

Sunset Cove exceeded our expectations. The check in process was easy. We stayed in unit 222 which was an oceanview room. It was great to wake up in the morning and have coffee on the balcony and watch the sun rise. The condo had all the furnishings of home. The grocery store (Kirk's) is just down the road about 3 miles. Everything was clean and well taken care of. The grounds at Sunset Cove were immuculate. It was nice having a private beach area. The lagoon was great for swimming and snorkeling. If you follow the path down by the end of the beach you will find concrete walking stones that take you over to the long stretch where all the other condo and hotels are located. This was a great way to start the morning with a nice long walk.

Our family was very surprised how clean the island is. All the people are very friendly. Food was excellent whereever you went, however the cost of food compared to the U.S. was very expensive Edwardos Italian restaurant was great. We celebrated our anniversary here. You have to take a tour to Stingray Island and swim with the Stingrays and snorkel. We used Sun Ray Tours. The catamaran was very well kept and only allowed a maximum of 25 guests. We rented a car as to tour the island. If you want to see other areas than 7 mile beach a car is necessary. If you have time take a trip to the car museum. This was our first time to Grand Cayman and the beaches were much nicer and wider than in Aruba. If you want to avoid the crowds in Georgetown due to the cruise ship people, stay away on Tuesday-Thursday when the majority of ships are in port.

Room Tip: Spend the extra money for a 2 bedroom oceanview room. Well worth it.

Check in was fine. Availability of on-site staff was okay. I showed up once during thier office hours and there was no one there. I thought thier hours of availability were pretty limited. The unit we stayed in (302) was clean, the amenities were good. Beds could be better, kinda hard and in need of updated linens. The beach seemed to be in good shape and availability of chairs were plenty. The concept of the sheltered snorkel area seems nice, but it was pretty useless, as the visibility within it was pretty much zero every day. The visibility dramatically increases as you go further outside of it. There is a pretty large reef area out in front of Sunset Cove which was a plus. Sting ray city was cool, but it would have been nice if there was less people there during our visit, it was kind of a zoo. Dining was good, we went to Luca, Agua, and Coconut Joes. The first two were grat meals, but expensive. Coconut Joes is the perfect place for a good meal at a reasonable price. Locals are friendly, safety is not an issue, transportation is plenty, they really could use better sidewalks though, as they only seem to be wide enough for two people to pass eachother, and you are about 4 foot away from speeding cars. Overall it was a good stay. For the price we paid, I guess I was expecting a little more high end resort. This I would consider about a 3 star. I'm glad I went, but overall when comparing the cost of this trip to an all inclusive in Mexico, I'll take Mexico next time. More bang for the buck and more culture there. Cayman felt like a coastal town in the US.
