“Perfect week away from it all!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2013

We loved the Grand Cayman Beach Suites. From the fabulous view from our second floor balcony to the ice cold eucalyptus washcloths offered at noon on the beach, the hotel offered a lot for a small hotel. It has a spa[prices aren't super expensive], pool bar, pool restaurant & grill [burgers and grilled maui on coconut roll were great], a main restaurant-Hemingways [we ate breakfast there- the food was very good], water sport rental next to the pool [again not super expensive] and 2 small gift shops [which we bought a few decent priced items- hat & sunscreen included]. Our room was big, always clean [housekeeping staff was great] and cool [best part]. It could have used another mirror outside the bathroom, maybe a full length one behind the closet door. If you need to pay for wifi they have it, we didn't and it was great, we found out on a last day there was a computer we could have used in the executive offices but I was great we went a whole week w/o computers or cell phones. If you go shopping to Foster's Supermarket [good idea since there is toaster, microwave & refrigerator in the every room] bring bags or the bag they provide you with in the room since they charge for bags. The supermarket is also only a short walk. Cross using the bridge for safety. Our favorite restaurant was Blue Cilantro [a little expensive but worth every penny]. We also enjoyed Deckers [right across the street], Aqua & Ragazzi [down the street]. Also, one night we ordered pizza from Ginos. It was very good. I tried the Jerk Chicken on half, it was good though if you don't like peppers and onions make sure you tell them. The bread sticks were good too.

My family and I just returned from our first trip to the Cayman Islands. We had a great time, in large part to our stay at GCBS. I can see why reviews are mixed. This hotel really is a "boutique hotel" - only ~50 suites, smaller pool, very small lobby, very understated. So, if you like the glitz and glamour of the larger Ritz or Marriott, GCBS would not compare.

Location: I liked that the property was in the middle of Seven mile beach, with a market and restaurants within walking distance, but away from the crowds near the Marriott and Westin, and cruise ship docks further south. The best part of the hotel was the beachfront, with enough chairs out without being crowded. Our boys especially liked the large trampoline anchored a short swim away where you could see lots of colorful fish. There was also still lots of sand to play in and not so many people in the water to make it look like an amusement park wave pool, which is how I felt the beach in front of the Marriott and Ritz appeared. At the Marriott, there were so many beach chairs crammed in such a small space, some of the chairs were in the water. The Ritz, also, had a small section of ocean roped off, in which there were 4 plastic cheesy-looking floating drink tables and 4 floating trampolines which really took away from the view of the water.

Room: The other main appeal of GCBS to me was the size of the rooms and that there are 2 separate rooms. I have 2 big boys, who had plenty of space in the large living area. We had a rollaway bed which was complementary. There was a nice-sized refrigerator, microwave, toaster, plates, and utensils so we could eat small meals. The rooms seemed very clean and updated. There were also 2 sinks in the bathroom, a nice large tub/shower and separate toilet. The bathroom separated the living room from the bedroom, which again is great if you have big (or little kids) that need a separate quiet space. I was especially impressed with the solid core doors between the rooms. We were on the 5th floor next to a corner suite, and heard 0 noise from any neighbor.

I would actually rate this proper 4.5 stars, with a half star off because of the construction noise next door. A large condo complex is being built, and our bedroom windows faced the construction. The construction started on the dot at 7:00am every day, including weekends, and ended before 5pm. There is no drilling or jackhammering, but a large crane that has a motor running, and small tractors pulling and dumping supplies around the sight which make noise. The noise was definitely less audible in the living room area, especially with the air conditioning on, but definitely heard in the bedroom.

Service and amenities: The cleaning service was excellent, our cleaning person came consistently every morning and early evening to turn down the beds. The last day, we were left small rum cakes instead of the usual chocolates on the beds which was a nice touch. The front staff in the small lobby was also very helpful. I never had to wait long for their help. Hemingways had a good breakfast buffet for $17 Cayman dollars on Saturday with omelette bar, fruit, pastries, french toast, waffles and pancakes. My husband especially enjoyed the BBQ lunch at the pool bar/ restaurant for $13 Cayman dollars you could pick 2 meats that were grilled on the spot and multiple salads. We ate at several restaurants near the property, and none were much less expensive or much better in quality.

There were 2 pools, both on the smaller side, but seemed to fit the size of the property and were not very crowded.

Parking was free, which was a nice plus and offset the cost of the internet, which was a little flaky.

Overall, I would recommend this property, especially for families needing more space, or those who do not want the spring break/party feel at the Ritz/Marriott/Westin.

Room Tip: Rooms ending in #8-12 face construction

I have traveled to many Caribbean islands (Turks, Antigua, Jamaica, st. Martin) and fell in love with GC! The location of GCBS is perfect along with the beautiful Seven Mile Beach! Our room had a full balcony which is a must. Great views of the ocean and property!
The people on GC are exceptionally friendly! The hotel is the perfect size and not overcrowded! The Red Sail Scuba diving company in the resort is first class! They go above and beyond for you! Very professional and knowledgable!! The only negative to the property is the restaurant "Hemmingways" we were not impressed with the food which was very bland.
Fosters grocery store is within walking distance(push the cart to your hotel and leave it roadside they pick it up!). The island is pricey but well worth every penny!!!

Room Tip: Get a full balcony! The other rooms only have a Juliette balcony which means basically no balcony.

It is not often that a hotel ticks all the right boxes without having to break the bank to stay there. The Grand Cayman Beach Suites did just that for our stay in Grand Cayman.
The front desk staff are extremely pleasant and helpful, as is the friendly bellman, forever there to open the door and help with bags.
Our one bedroom suite was not overly flashy, but was spacious and had everything we needed.
The pools are amazing and perfect for our trip with our 9 month old son. There are shallow sides to sit on and deeper sections to float around in. Due to the relatively small nature of the suites and proximity to the beach, the pool never felt crowded. They were always clean and tidy.
As I mentioned above, the suites are close to the beach... Walking past the pools and straight onto a beach that looks like it came straight out of a holiday magazine. The water is shallow with gentle waves, perfect for the little guy to splash in his floatie.
Another plus is the quality of food at the suites. We ate at Hemingway's the first night and both enjoyed our fish. The service was good, an all in all, a good experience. As with most restaurants on the island, it is a little pricy, but with fresh seafood and then fact we enjoyed it so much, we were happy to pay. The food we most recommend from the suites is the lunchtime grill. For $13 CI you can choose 2 meats and all the salads, more than enough to fill you up for lunch. The catch of the day was fresh and delicious and the shrimp and chicken were well seasoned and cooked to perfection. Don't miss it when you stay here!
We absolutely loved our stay at the Beach Suites. We'll definitely be back to Grand Cayman and when we do, we'll be staying here again!

We took our 2 boys 8 and 9 for a week and had a great trip. Love Cayman!! We needed some extra space so we picked the suite. It did give us more room. Make sure you get on the 5th floor with extra balcany space. Our view was obstructed with the palm trees. The food was good at the pool. Loved the fish and chips. Kylee and Brad were the best parts of the staff at the bar.......The front desk staff along with Hemingways staff was just ok. There are not many amenties at all except for the pool, workout and towels. The chairs are nice and paded. It is not the Ritz or the Westin if that is what you are looking for. If you are just looking for a good family vacation we were fine.

Room Tip: 8506 is a good room.

I had done a tremendous amount of research about the island and where to stay before we went down in April (I've been meaning to write this for many months). I felt confident in our decision to go to Grand Cayman Beach Suites but was quickly dissatisfied. When we arrived the front desk said they oversold the rooms so they needed to place us in the Westin for the night. We had delays on our way down so it was difficult news to hear under the circumstances. However, we tried to make the best of it. They were genuinely kind and regretful but we really got a taste of paradise after staying at the Westin. It made us realize how mismanaged and loud our remaining nights at Grand Cayman Beach Suites was compared to the Westin. The construction was overbearingly loud and to the rooms are pretty outdated. I don't believe I saw one member of upper management our entire stay and there's no concierge to help with local attractions. As a guest, you must depend on the front desk staff to help with this sort of information but they're often inundated and unable to provide adequate information as they are helping other guests manage logistics of their rooms/stay. I feel a concierge is standard fare when you're staying at such a costly hotel. Also, the hotel tacks on an additional $150 (Grand Cayman) for "service tip" at the end of the stay. This fee came as a surprise to us after we spent over $300/night for the room- there were only two of us. Also, it appears as though they haven't invested in the property in years. The beach chairs are covered in blue mats, which are grease stained from previous uses of tanning oil and lotion. They're out dirty. And the beach area is minuscule compared to other properties-You're shoulder-to-shoulder with other guests. The beach is why you're in GC! The wifi is an additional $10/day per device, which is just silly as it's typically free. Will never return; spend your money elsewhere. I completely disagree with the reviews that glorify this hotel. Grand cayman is beautiful but we go to the Caribbean on an annual basis and have gotten much better stays and memories in other hotels. In fact, our memories from the one night in the Westin far exceed the remaining nights at Beach Suites.

Dear Guest,

I would like to thank you for taking the time to provide this important feedback. I watch this forum carefully for comments and I take seriously all comments made in order that we can use them to better our services and provide a better stay for all of our guests. Please be assured that I am taking into consideration all of the points you identified and please let me take the opportunity to comment on some of your issues mentioned.

There is construction ongoing at the property next door and certainly wish that this were not the case but the nature of construction means that there are times when the work undertaken can be noisy and other times it is not. It is most unfortunate that your visit occurred during the former. I can assure you that there is no one looking forward to the completion of that building more than I.

It is regrettable that you felt our rooms were outdated as we've spent considerable resources, in October 2012 we replaced all carpets, living room furniture, premium mattresses, patio chairs, painted the rooms and installed premier HDcable on our flat screens. We appreciate everyone's opinion but do know that décor tastes differ but our primary goal was to make the room comfortable and relaxing with our room footprint of 700 sq feet we offer lots of space for couples and families to spread out.

In Cayman Islands all hotel accommodations are subject to mandated government fees, all daily rates are exclusive of 13% hotel tax and a 10% service charge which goes directly to all employees. This is not a hotel initiative but law and it is closely audited by the Department of Tourism if you feel this charge is unwarranted I urge you to contact the government body and voice your displeasure.

As a small 53 room hotel all of our staff do many job functions day to day, the front desk is no exception and our front office agents act as our concierge, they are all proud Caymanians who know the island restaurants and activities extensively and yes at times they are busy but always willing to help in any request you may have. As noted in a recent comment we have replaced all loungers and are enjoyed by all. With 250ft of beach front we have more than enough room for our suites. We are a boutique property and as we are not as large as the other hotels on the island but we only accommodate 100 people at full capacity not 700 people as the other hotels do.

As you have seen from previous good reviews we always strive to provide a great experience for all of our guests. We appreciate the review and although you didn't enjoy our small boutique resort we hope you will one day return to vacation in the Cayman Islands

The Hotel is smaller than many others, thus giving you the peace and low crowding. However, a 10 story hotel is being built right next to this one. I believe this may not be too much of a factor, simply because most people like to stay in front of their perseptive hotels on the beach. Enough space for limited crowding, but the Red Sail Shop will bring more visitors to cross the hotel lines.

Overall, as for now, this is one of my nice little get aways. Expensive, but remember, this is a British Area so the money is in Euro type values (KYD or CI). Oh, sorry for not mentioning the Hen.Restaurant (they cooked and nicely prepared our fish that was caught from our earlier days' sea fishing) and Ms. Miller (the office counter manager). Man she's very knowledgeable of the hotel and area..... Nice and enjoyable stay, thanks!

Room Tip: The hotel has side and straight forward rooms. The 3rd floor straight forward rooms is the best outs...
