We just got back from a 4 Night stay at the Grand Cayman Beach Suites.
Firstly, this Hotel is no longer Hyatt!! Apparently on the Jan 1 2008, it switched to new ownership.
On the plus side,
1. We were given one of the best rooms in the 53 room hotel. We had a full balcony on the top floor facing the ocean. The room (suite) was the best part of this hotel. It was clean and well appointed. The batroom was very nice with marble tiles, etc. Since this is a suite the way the have it set up, the actual bedroom does not face the ocean, just the living area. This setup is not the best I have seen. I suspect all the rooms are setup with the bedroom facing the street.
2. The room had a handy kitchenette.
3. The sand and water at the beach was beautiful.
4. Some staff was very helpful, others not so much. It depended on the person.
There were some negative surprises.
1. The beach is very very narrow. We were there and the hotel was very empty, but the beach still felt crowded. High tide is worse.
2. To make matters worse, the hotel rents some space to Red Sail Sports. So that at least half the beach is used by them and large boats, Jet Ski's, etc. are coming in and out all day. Definitely wake up early and get a spot as far away from them as you can.
3. Apparently the space adjacent to the hotel is used by Carnival Cruise lines to bring cruise passengers to the beach when the ships are docked. We were enjoying a nice day on Thursday, when all of a sudden we were like "Where are all these people coming from". The passengers actually overflowed and set up on the hotels chairs and used facilities. I can't believe the hotel allows this kind of thing. They must know when these ships are coming. Anyway, we were not really happy as these cruise ship passengers were fairly loud and rude and basically spoiled a relaxing day.
4. This hotel used to be part of a larger complex that was destroyed when Ivan hit a couple of years ago. So that the hotel has no actual "lobby" or other resort like things. It is basically the hotel room or the beach.
5. The pool area is nice, but it is shady most of the day.
6. The main restaurant Hemmingway’s is ridiculously expensive. The food was ok, but not worth the price. A note is that the entire island is way overpriced for all the basic things, so Hemmingway's is not much different in that regard.
7. The gift shop has no food items so either be prepared to spend a ton of money on food and drinks, or do what we did and go to the local supermerket (at the Strand, a five mnute walk) and pick up expensive (but less expensive) food and drinks there.
8. The maid was annoyed every night that we were not out by 6:30pm so she could do her turn down service.
9. Because the bedroom faced the street, you could hear loud cars, music, etc. every night while trying to go to sleep.

Thank you for your posting on TripAdvisor.com. We welcome guest comments as this is one active way in which we are able to constantly improve our services and keep communication lines open with our guests.
We apologise if you were not informed that the Hyatt no longer acts as our management company. Hyatt and the Grand Cayman Beach Suites tried to contact everyone possible to inform them of the change of direction in early December. I can reassure you that the ownership of the hotel has not changed and that the owner remains committed to this property and to providing our guests with a wonderful holiday experience.
The Grand Cayman Beach Suites sits upon 250 feet one of the most beautiful sections of Seven Mile Beach - famous for its lack of current and wave action which gives us the crystal clear water that is not found in many other places in the world. One of the pleasures of Seven Mile Beach is that it is completely open for public access and you can walk from one end of the other freely and we are required to abide with local laws that gives access to the general public to enter the hotel in order to maintain that sense of welcoming to all guests of the island.
In order to provide for our hotel guests we have endeavoured to ensure that everything is available right on property. Red Sail Sports is our supplier of all of our watersports activities - sailing, snorkelling, jet-skis and sundry items. We are pleased now to be a boutique style hotel that offers a full range of resort services including golf, spa, full gym, dive operator/watersports on site, tennis courts, three restaurants, in room dining and two pools.
Our goal is to make everyone's experience in Cayman a welcoming one. we hope that you will return to see us one day, if not with us hopefully at a property that fits your needs.
