The Good: 1) The beach in front of the CCC's is one of the best stretches on Seven Mile Beach. It is located at the quieter, northern end of the beach away from the large hotels but also away from the conveniences too (stores, restaurants). This was good for us but may not be for some. Managment goes to great lengths to maintain the high quality of the beach in front of their property. They rake daily and had a man tilling the sand to keep it soft and to remove debris. Shade is plentiful but some guests were territorial leaving towels, etc. to reserve vacant beach chairs for long periods. Seemingly some snuck out under the cover of darkness to secure the choice locations. The best water (least rocks in the sand) for swimming is to the left of the property's beach if you are facing the sea with your back to the condos. The best snorkeling is to the extreme right. Swim a direct line out from the large, private home to the north of the CCC's for the best snorkeling. Snorkeling was OK but not great (USVI better in my opinion with more variety of fish and coral). Cemetary Reef, a 10 minute beach walk to the north, is worth the effort. 2) The staff always was helpful and friendly. 3) The condo unit was very clean and well appointed.

The Not So Good: Road Noise. Within the condo road noise still was loud. The road along 7MB is very busy. To be fair, road noise likely is a problem at most 7MB properties as they are sandwiched between the road and the beach.

Some Advice: 1) Make certain to reserve an ocean view room. The units on the first floor offer the most convenient access to the beach but sacrifice some ocean view compared to the units on higher levels. Even the ocean view units on the higher levels are preferable to the garden view rooms and well worth the extra money. 2) The buses that run along 7MB are a good alternative to the expensive taxis if you don't rent a car. They run frequently and cost C$2 per person for one stop (as near or as far as you'd like). 3) The Calypso Grill is a nice location for dinner. All restaurants on the island are overpriced for the quality of what you get (we live in NYC to offer some perspective). The location of the Calypso Grill is worth it for the experience. 4) If you are traveling with a child in a car seat be aware that some taxis don't have seatbelts. Make sure to request one specifically.
If you are planning a vacation to Grand Cayman then the Christopher Columbus Condos are a good choice.

We stayed in the 3 BR Penthouse (#28) last week and loved every minute of it! You can't beat the views - we probably spent the majority of the time just relaxing on the balcony reading. Grand Cayman can get pricey, so having the full kitchen (completely stocked with all kinds of gadgets - including baking tools if you're so inclined!) to prepare meals and snacks really helped.

The master overlooked the garden, so we chose the smaller bedroom that still had the king sized bed so we could wake up overlooking the turquoise waters every morning. The place is rather quiet, and seems to be populated mostly by middle aged and older couples who spend a lot of time down there. There are kids running and playing, but it never got too noisy.

The beach has tons of places to sit in the sun and I never had an issue finding a nice shady pallapa to move under. The beach right outside of the condo had great snorkeling and swimming, so there's really no reason to go anywhere else. I would highly recommend renting a car while you're there, it's just easier.

Lisa and Julie in the management office were extremely helpful with everything. I'm lobbying to go back with a larger group for Christmas next year!

My family stayed at the Christopher Columbus Condos in July 2007. Our group consisted of a couple, an eight year old child and an active senior. We stayed in a 3 bedroom penthouse unit which gave us plenty of room and privacy. The unit was clean and looked well kept and fresh with typical beach house furnishings. There are plenty of beach chairs and shade and beach towels are provided. We brought our own snorkle gear with us. The pool was small but clean and was refreshing to rinse off the salt water. We ate breakfast and lunch in the condo and went out for dinner most nights. Although my wife was hesitant at first because we have been fortunate enough to usually stay at luxury hotels, we all had a terrific time there and in fact have booked a return visit for this spring. The beach is fantastic with crystal clear water, mostly sand bottom (with a few scattered rocks). Although there is not a lot of live coral near the beach, there is some an easy swim off shore. Our eight year old who can swim well saw everything with the aid of an inner tube and a snorkle mask. We saw sea turtles every day, lots of fish, a school of squid, a baracuda and more right off the beach. The water was warm and clear, and on a night with a full moon we all went swiming and could still clearly see the bottom at 10 PM. By having the condo right on the beach, we were able to swim all morning, then walk in for lunch, a nap or some board games in the heat of the day, then head back to ocean in the afternoon..We rented a car which I would recommend. It gave us the freedom to tour the island, drop into various restaurants to check out the menus and specials and then move on to another if we wished. Our son loved exploring the sand dollar beach and loved sting ray city, but be sure to go when the cruise ships are not in town. We loved our entire trip and will be back!

I went down with a group of 18 and rented condos 27, 28 and 5. 27 and 28 are 3 bedroom 2 bathroom penthouses. Condo 5 is a ground floor 2 bedroom plus den. The "den" though at 2 twin beds in it. My sister, brother-in-law and their 3 children loved all of the room they had.

I stayed in 27 which is where I took the pictures attached to the review. 2 of the bedrooms have king beds and 1 has 2 twins. In addition there is a sleeper couch in the sitting area. There is PLENTY of room and privacy for 6 adults in this condo.

The decor is light, bright and tropical. The kitchen had every gadget under the sun and the balcony was a great place to start off your morning. When CC says beach front they don't lie.

There are a few small things I wanted to point out that helped us decide to go back next year over trying some place new. Hands down I believe they have the best beach of the Northern 7MB condos. You can see a plethora of fish and sea creatures snorkeling right from shore. They are a short 5-10 minute walk from Cemetery Reef/Beach.

If you are going with kids, you will appreciate the 40 foot wide grassy knoll between the sand and the condo. It gives the kids a place to kick a soccer ball around in the morning and helps reduce the amount of sand tracked into the condo.

The pool is lovely and don't miss the kayaks stored on the far southern boarder of the property. The beach was never full and we always had plenty of room to play, swim and snorkel.

Last but not least I want to mention the housekeeping. They are friendly and very good at their job. They consistently went above and beyond.

“Loved the condo and the beach”

This was our first visit to the Caymans in the summer, and we were fearful it would be too hot. Much to our delight, the temperature is very similar to the temperature in March. We had a few more showers than normal, but the weather was really near perfect.
Surprising, summer may be the best time of the year because there are fewer tourists and restaurants are easy to book, little traffic, pleasant waiters, etc. It was a great trip, and again we were able to stay in Unit #18 which overlooks the beach from its second floor balcony. This time we were prepared for the lack of elevator. We noticed numerous small improvements from our last stay. There are a lot of original watercolors of the island in this unit, and it feels like you are truly in a native decor. Very nice with a wonderful island feel.
The quality of the beach on this section of Seven Mile Beach is excellent. Really nice white sand and few people. Great.
We were very impressed with the lady in charge of things. Her name is Lisa Hernandez. She is a native Caymanian and incredibly nice. Very different from some the other places we have stayed. We had a light switch problem in one room which she had fixed within an hour - pleasantly!
We were here six nights and ate out almost every evening. Every restaurant was teriffic. They are pretty hard to rate since we liked every one of them. We ate both inside the screen porch at the Grand Old House and outside, and prefer inside for several reasons. The Grand Old House marinated conch was terrific as it was at the Wharf, Portifino (at the eastern end of the island), Otmar's (at Morgan's Harbor) and Eduardos (near the Ritz). We had a fine dinner at Pappagallo's which is just beyond the north edge of West Bay, The last one is on a lagoon but great food and a cheery parrot. Great rack of lamb at Eduardos and at the Grand Old House.
Overall, a great stay.
