My family stayed at the Christopher Columbus Condos in July 2007. Our group consisted of a couple, an eight year old child and an active senior. We stayed in a 3 bedroom penthouse unit which gave us plenty of room and privacy. The unit was clean and looked well kept and fresh with typical beach house furnishings. There are plenty of beach chairs and shade and beach towels are provided. We brought our own snorkle gear with us. The pool was small but clean and was refreshing to rinse off the salt water. We ate breakfast and lunch in the condo and went out for dinner most nights. Although my wife was hesitant at first because we have been fortunate enough to usually stay at luxury hotels, we all had a terrific time there and in fact have booked a return visit for this spring. The beach is fantastic with crystal clear water, mostly sand bottom (with a few scattered rocks). Although there is not a lot of live coral near the beach, there is some an easy swim off shore. Our eight year old who can swim well saw everything with the aid of an inner tube and a snorkle mask. We saw sea turtles every day, lots of fish, a school of squid, a baracuda and more right off the beach. The water was warm and clear, and on a night with a full moon we all went swiming and could still clearly see the bottom at 10 PM. By having the condo right on the beach, we were able to swim all morning, then walk in for lunch, a nap or some board games in the heat of the day, then head back to ocean in the afternoon..We rented a car which I would recommend. It gave us the freedom to tour the island, drop into various restaurants to check out the menus and specials and then move on to another if we wished. Our son loved exploring the sand dollar beach and loved sting ray city, but be sure to go when the cruise ships are not in town. We loved our entire trip and will be back!
