“Good amenities, great location Unit #3”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

Stayed here in May of 2013 and thoroughly enjoyed it. Price was excellent (half the cost of a hotel), and we were able to make quite a few meals and save some cash. Condo had everything we needed, satellite TV, high speed internet (wifi), towels, dishes and a great view.

Pool and beach were never crowded, usually only about 3 or 4 other families on the beach in front of the resort. Very quiet and peaceful. Head down to the Grand Cayman Resort to rent jet skis or a sail boat (just a short 5 minute walk on the beach).

Coconut Joe's, Al Kebab and Cimboco are all within walking distance and have great food. You don't need a car to stay here, however I rented through Payless Car Rental and paid only $186 for the week (about $27 a day) it was well worth it. Great to drive around the island on your own, go to Rum Point/Cayman Kai, Botanical Gardens or the East side.

I highly recommend this condo and would definitely stay here again!

This trip was our first time back to Cayman in many many years. We now remember why we used to love it here so much...anyway, we chose unit 33 at CRR and booked directly with the owner via VRBO. Easy & efficient process. The unit had a keypad/coded entry rather than keys; super not having to keep up with keys for the week! There was free wireless internet which we loved. The condo was clean and comfortable. The bathroom must have been recently renovated as it had beautiful tile - shower, no tub; there was also plenty of counter space and a clothes washer/dryer. The screened porch saw us at breakfast every day as we prepared for our morning beach walk. Hubby "napped" there during the visit. The beach.....ahhhhhh....situated just north of the Marriott and south of Royal Palms where a lot of cruise ship passengers visit, the beach is soft sand and you can walk for hours to the north! If you go very far south beach shoes will protect you from the rough ironshore found there but it is pretty in a different, rugged way. Snorkeling out front is fun but head down around the Marriott and you'll see more sealife. We dove with Ollen Miller who we had known from years before and were delighted that he and his operation were still top notch - offering small group diving. He now also has a shore dive operation at northwest point at the Cracked Conch Restaurant building that many rave over but weather kept us from giving it a try - maybe next time! A car isn't a must in the CRR location as there is convenient shopping close (take your own bags to the grocery store or you have to pay for bags) by BUT do yourself a favor and rent one for exploring the other areas of the island such as the Botanical Garden. Rum Point is beautiful but crowded. We were shocked at how much it had grown so we went around the corner to Kaibo Yacht Club and enjoyed a very relaxing lunch there. All in all we loved our trip and are already planning another!

Room Tip: #33 had a nice view and was literally a few steps away from the beach. Ground level with a screened...

WOW... this condo was amazing. Very clean, comfortable, affordable, everything you needed she had for us to use and so close to everything!

We fell in love with the condo as soon as we walked in. The photos on line do not do it justice as it is more beautiful when you see it in person! It is spacious, modern and so very clean. The condo has a key pad on the door, which worked fabulously for the three of us couples staying there not having to worry about who had the key in order to get in… It was so beautifully and tastefully decorated - probably the newest remodeled unit out of all of them. The bedrooms were clean, spacious, comfortable...closet space galore and big beautiful dressers! There were beach towels, beach chairs, umbrella, basketball, tennis racquets, floatation rings for children, etc.... Everything we needed, she had available for us to use – even a big screen TV… which wasn’t used much, but it was there if we wanted it! We even hosted a dinner party for 12 and we had enough cutlery, dinnerware, and wine glasses for it all... amazing! (And a dishwasher took care of all the dishes!)

The beach was so close, so we were never too far away from a cool drink.... and the pool on the grounds was very clean - never busy - so quaint and quiet...the landscaping was beautiful, paving blocks to guide you to the beach and the beach frontage was equipped with handicap accessible ramps too. They had outdoor showers to rinse the sand off before heading back to our condo. Oh, and the sunsets, they have the most beautiful sunsets we have ever seen! No matter what you are in the mood for, many restaurants are just a short walk or short drive away. Hands down this is the best place to stay on Seven Mile Beach! We will stay here again and have already recommended this condo to family and friends.

Thank you Vanessa - for sharing your beautiful home with us - we will be back!!

Cathy & Don

Room Tip: An updated condo like this one feels like home... but even better with the beach outside your door!

We stayed her after 10 trips to Cayman. I always wanted to stay here because it's a great location, but I could never get a reservation! Well this time I did and was not disappointed. We stayed in Unit #34 and the pictures did not do it justice. It was spotless and had lots of space. The pool was warm and staff friendly. We could not figure out the tv and the manager came over to help. We have stayed at a different place each time we come to Cayman- only because there are so many beautiful places to stay and all of them nice! This place by far is the best bang for your buck on the island, where not many deals are to be had! We would happily stay here again!

We have stayed in this 1 bedroom unit 3 times and will continue to stay there on future visits. Marc, the owner, is wonderful to work with. His helpful guides and instructions make the stay stress free. The location of this unit allows for privacy and a view of the courtyard and pool. Great location on Seven Mile Beach, very close to restaurants, stores, Camana Bay and The Royal Palms. Very safe area, we walked everywhere. Close to Fosters Food Fair - we would use the unit's BBQ for lunch everyday. The unit has many great features like cable tv, DVD player and iPod docking station. We highly recommend this unit for your stay!

We stayed in this unit#31 March 11 through March 17th and the unit was A-aaamazing....great updated kitchen with all the needs to cook and feel like Home. The unit has a great washer and dryer to wash beach towels and more which I found very nice. The owners live on the island and are very accomodating to help you with any questions or needs if they should arise. They are so nice and easy to work with they are professional and attentive to all the details.
The bedroom was nice with a flat screen wall mounted TV and the bed was cozy and the linens are soft and new the bed was very comfortable. The Bath towels are fluffy and yummy The Bathroom was roomy for two to get your Sunscreen on get ready to hit the BEACH...:)
All the decor was bright and beautiful and totally felt like a beach retreat. The unit has a Nice flat screen in the living room including a nice sorround sound stereo system for both movie and tv watching or just listening to great music while enjoying the unit in the evenings.

The location of the unit was incredible it faces the beach and literally you step out the back door and you are on the sand in a few steps.....The Sunsets are some of the most gorgeous we have ever seen and it all happens right from outside your unit. The Royal Palms is just steps away to the north you can walk on the sand to dine, dance and have great drinks and walk right back to your unit with your toes in the sand the whole way.....We dined and danced at the The Royal Palms one evening under the stars and walk back to our unit.....Thinking my goodness it can't get any better then this......Well I guess It can because we are going to return to this unit again...... Do not hesitate renting this unit it will meet all your vacation dreams.

My boyfriend and I recently returned from eight amazing nights in Grand Cayman, five of which were spent at The Cayman Reef Resort. We stayed in Unit #21 and though we had a wonderful stay we had a few problems with the unit itself.

We're positive people but I feel it's my duty to give other renters a fair warning of #21 so the same thing doesn't happen to them:

UNIT #21:
It was our third time to Grand Cayman and it won't be our last. We did a lot of research on TripAdvisor on various condo complexes as well as research on units located within the Cayman Reef Resort property. It was apparent from photo's on VRBO and TA that Unit #21 was a bit dated (appliances, furniture, bedding) yet we knew it would be difficult to find a better location so we booked the unit. MAJOR PROBLEM: The sliding doors that opened to the beach side were completely off the track and therefore DID NOT LOCK! We immediately emailed the owner who was proactive in relaying the problem to the management while he also played dumb to the issue (yet we were later informed from other property owners that renters in February and January had the same problem....someone even relayed a person in August 2012 complained about the door). The doors were completely off the track and it wasn't a small problem, this didn't happen overnight it occurred as the building has shifted over time. This is a major problem on a ground floor unit--anyone could have opened the door and entered! The management was responsive and said they called in a glass company to fix it (and though they seemed to care, the door was never fixed). WARNING: Our waitress at Ortanique told us she lives in the condo complex next door and was ROBBED TWICE in 6 weeks in November....petty theft. Yes, the island is safe and yes, the beach is safe to walk on during evening hours but there is a theft problem so please make note to lock your sliding doors! We locked our passports & valuables in a suitcase but with the door open how would that prevent someone from walking out with the bag? We felt safe sleeping at night, it was only when we left for dinner that we were uncomfortable about the idea of someone entering our condo unit.

Other things to note about unit #21: It's location is amazing and we were thrilled to be steps away from the water. The decor is very dated & the owners could put it some money to fix a moldy ceiling above the shower, fix fans and light switches that don't work (on the porch), update the bed linens (a very simple fix that would go a long way). We spent $295 a night which we thought was fair until we toured another oceanfront unit on the opposite side that rents for $315 a night that is completely updated (#31 or #39, I can't recall). We could have overlooked all the other problems and would not have mentioned them here but we were left feeling cheated by the door problem.

Positives (the whole trip was amazing minus the condo unit issues)
The Beach:
The property is located three doors down from The Marriott (to the north) and has a much better beach than The Marriott and the properties to the south of the hotel. The beach at The Cayman Reef Resort is more spacious and beach erosion is less noticeable here. We brought our own snorkel gear and were able to use it daily just steps away from our condo unit (Unit #21 is literally steps away from the beach). We rose early during our stay and quickly learned that in order to secure a beach umbrella you need to be out before 7am (which was fine and all worked out well). The condo unit was equipped with an umbrella which was a nice bonus. We didn't use the pool but it was well maintained and seemed perfect for families with children.

Restaurants & Grocery Stores:
We took the bus ($2.50 US) to Foster's Market and stocked up on groceries for the week. We spent roughly $200 US but this is nothing compared to what you could spend daily eating every meal out (ex: $70 lunch at The Marriott). Premier Wines and Spirits in located in the plaza directly across from the condo complex and there is a cigar bar/store across the parking lot as well. We cooked breakfast and lunch daily and chose to cook a few nights and dine out for dinner the other nights.

I would recommend visiting Camana Bay during your trip--there are shops and restaurants, as well as a local farmers market on Wednesday. It's a quick walk from the condo complex. We ate at Michael's Genuine and Ortanique and I would highly recommend both. One evening we got take out from "Chicken! Chicken!" (also in the plaza across the street) and it was delicious and made for perfect lunch leftovers.

Other notable, yet pricey, restaurants that people recommended or that I researched: Ostera Bay in West Bay, The Brasserie in Georgetown (staff at Ortanique recommended), Hemingway's at the Grand Cayman Beach Suites (beach view, we walked by several times but did not dine).

Some more affordable places include: Cimbuco, Coconut Joes, Agua, Ragazzi (Luca's sister restaurant that's good for families), Sunshine Grill, as well as The Royal Palms (lunch).

Activities:
Cruise ships frequent the island during the week but aren't permitted on Saturday and Sundays so if you plan on doing an excursion check out the Grand Cayman Port Authority website to see how many ships will be in on any given day. http://www.caymanport.com/shipschedules.php (type in your trip dates). The Royal Palms, located two doors down (to the north) becomes crowded with day trippers but it didn't effect us. We walked over to The Marriott during our stay and rented kayaks as well as paddle boards.

We had an amazing stay at The Cayman Reef Resort and don't regret it but we were disappointed with the few problems at Unit #21. We will definitely return to Grand Cayman and The Cayman Reef Resort.
