Sadly, my wife and I returned from our Grand Cayman vacation on 5/10. Since I booked my trip based on advice I received from this website, I felt it only right to post a review myself so that someone else might benefit from our experience.
We were both a little nervous about this trip, since it was our first trip abroad. We spoke directly to Ann Rose at DPC when we made our reservation, and she graciously offered numerous suggestions (i.e. dining, things to do, etc.) to make our stay more enjoyable. When we arrived at DPC, we were pleased to see that the grounds were well kept and very clean. Check-in was easy and Ann Rose gave us a personal tour of our unit (#45).
The unit itself was just as promised...clean and comfortable with a fantastic third-floor view of the Caribbean. The balcony was screened to thwart mosquitoes (we never saw any the entire week), and the unit was furnished with a full kitchen, complete with simple dinnerware. The couch was large and comfortable, and a TV and DVD player was provided for our use. DPC has a "quiet time" policy whereby noise is restricted after 10 pm. We were never disturbed at any time by screaming kids or construction noises.
The pool and beach grounds were well kept and very clean. I never encountered any issues with obtaining cabana spaces (although I believe this might have to do with this being the down-time season). Yes, a portion of the beach is actually rocky, although the rocks make up only a relatively small area (it's rather charming). Snorkeling is easy all along the beach right in front of the unit and just down the beach (about .6 of a mile) at Cemetery Reef. My wife and I saw all sorts of colorful fish, urchins, and even a small ray just yards from the shore. And the sunset view from the property is simply grand.
I cannot stress enough how helpful Ann Rose and the rest of the staff were in helping us find things to do and places to eat. The DPC is not one of those places you go to and talk to 8 different people at the front desk every time you need something or have a question, She (or other staff members) were always around to offer kind advice to those (like us) who have no idea what to do or where to go.
It's easy to see how the DPC is the number 1 rated Seven Mile Beach property. If you're new to vacationing in Grand Cayman or are simply looking for a lovely place to settle in and enjoy the island, I wholeheartedly recommend the Discovery Point Club. Ann Rose and the folks here are the embodiment of the spirit and friendliness you'll experience all over the island. We drove away from the property with a feeling that we'd made some new friends that we'd definitely be back to see next year!
