“Excellent Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2013

Had an excellent stay at the Sunshine Suites. The hotel is across the street from the beach but in all honesty we never even used that part of the beach once. There are multiple entrances to the beach (look for the brown signs) and Governor's Beach is about a 2 minute drive. Its better to go to that beach because it isn't crowded and you're not stuck between two hotels.

The hotel's location is great. The strip mall just steps away from the hotel has a liquor store & Captain Marvin's Tours, if your interested in any snorkeling or Sting Ray action.

The rooms are very clean. I am picky about cleanliness like most people and our room was clean every single day.

Also, we rented a car so it was nice that parking was free at the hotel. WiFi was free. Breakfast is free too! It is usually muffins, toast, an egg dish, fruit and yogurt and if i remember right, another dish that is a surprise each day. I enjoyed the breakfast everyday. It's just for hotel guests so there is no worry that you won't get a seat.

Overall the stay was great and I highly recommend this hotel. It has the number one restaurant on trip advisor, it is steps from the beach and it's about 1000$ less than the big hotels that you won't spend any time in any ways because there is way too much to see in Grand Cayman!

Pick sunshine suites, you won't be disappointed.

Good value, friendly staff and clean rooms with fridge, cooker and table etc, great food and breakfast is free too. Only two minutes from the beach and a number of bars and restaurants are also pretty close by. Would stay with them again

I had a group reservation for my wedding guests here and the process to set it up was easy enough. I did it exclusively through email via their sales department. We got a great deal on the rooms, so it's worth it to do a group booking if you can for even better pricing.

I would say that our stay here was okay. There wasn't any extra courtesy extended to us because we booked a group there and all of us were spread out between the two buildings. They didn't keep us together and even with that, I wasn't provided a list of rooms that my guests were in so I basically just called the front desk to get connected to them every time. It was sort of a hassle. There were some other front desk customer service issues that put a slight damper on our stay and we had a few mishaps happen that could have been avoided with proper communication and as a result, ended up in a scathing review from us. However, we have resolved those issues with management. We just wish they communicated with us during our stay and checked in with us to make sure things were going smoothly at the time, instead of following up afterwards, but it's all good.

Sunshine Suites has a pool and restaurant on site (Sunshine Grill) that is VERY popular. The fish tacos are a standout there. However, if you are a guest at the hotel, you won't get preference with getting a seat, so make a reservation if you can. As a guest, they do offer continental breakfast which comes with the price of the room. The breakfast left a bit to be desired most days, but the mini muffins were good. Get there early for best choice (before 8am). With that said, for the price and you're in Grand Cayman, you can't expect much more than what they offer really.

I think overall, we liked the hotel and what it has to offer. Hopefully, we can give them another chance in the future.

Room Tip: make sure to request a ground level room when making your reservation if you don't want to climb...

Came here April 2013 for a friends' destination wedding, needless to say we got a great group discount for Sunshine Suites, which helped a lot as Grand Cayman can be pricey. The location is extremely convenient, not too far from the Airport (10+ min by car), very close to the beach (less than 5 min walk), and close to Georgetown if you are traveling by car, that is. Nearby there is Foster's supermarket as well as a CostULess supermarket (a lot like Costco in the US). We loved our room, it had all the amenities to make our stay very comfortable. The kitchenette proved useful as we used the stove and the microwave a few times during our 4-night stay. We were on the 3rd floor to the right side of the reception building, and it was very quiet. The service at the front desk, was extremely efficient and friendly. They were so helpful anytime we had a concern or question, they were able to meet our needs. It made for our stay that much more relaxing. The complimentary computers were also a great help, too. The Sunshine Grill located on the premises, is a great place to eat. We had the fish tacos which was pretty good (if you get this, order the Sunshine hash as a substitute for cole slaw. It is 50 cents more but, SO much better). Though this wasn't the Ritz (we actually strolled around), it was a much more welcoming and lively atmosphere, and we really loved it here. Don't forget, you can bring complimentary towels and beach chairs to the beach!

Room Tip: Choose a high floor, it's a nice, short walk, and away from the crowds on the first floor.

Ignoring the nomenclature, for the price, this hotel cannot be beat! The hotel is in a great location – about a 3-5 minute walk to the beach. It is a 10 minute drive to just about everywhere on the west side of the Island. The grounds are very well maintained. Our room was clean. The staff were always very pleasant and accommodating with requests.

The restaurant was very good. It is maybe a little over-hyped, but for a causal grill, lunch and dinner were very good. The breakfast is cold cereal and toast.

There are no balconies and no place to air out wet diving gear, which was a bit inconvenient. We did not feel comfortable leaving our items outside unattended.

Our first impression of Sunshine Suites was how nicely landscaped it was, including hammocks and chairs for you to enjoy it from. The office staff were very friendly and helpful, even providing us with bottled water upon check-in. There are two buildings of rooms, three floors each, all easy to get to. I read some reviews that said it felt like a motel due to the room doors being outside, but we didn't get that impression at all... we liked having direct access to the outdoors, rather than being stuffed inside some giant hotel. Our room was a 2 double bed, which we found to be spacious enough for the three of us (2 adults, 1 nine-year old). The beds were comfortable, the room was clean, the kitchenette with fridge was perfect, and there was more than enough closet and dresser space. The free breakfast was better than I expected - toast, muffins, cereal, oatmeal, fresh fruit, yogurt, two or three hot options, juice, coffee. The restaurant is very small, but there are several tables outside around the pool to sit at as well. There was never a morning we couldn't find a table. The restaurant is very open, so you are able to enjoy the breeze, and the two giant ceiling fans keep you cool in case the breeze doesn't. We didn't eat any other meals at the restaurant (we're vegetarian and they didn't have much to offer us), but it is the top restaurant on the island and it was packed every night - reservations are needed. The pool was a perfect size and clean, with plenty of lounge chairs around it. Beach access is across the street, which was not a problem to get to at all. I timed us - 4 minutes with snorkeling gear, 3 chairs, and one 9 year old in tow. We walked up and down Seven Mile Beach and felt that the beach area right across the street was the best spot. Snorkeling from this spot wasn't bad either, we even saw a sting ray one day. If we ever go back to Grand Cayman (and I really hope we do!), we will without a doubt be staying at Sunshine Suites again.

This Grand Cayman trip was my best tropical vacation ever! I went freediving and snorkeling for 5 or 6 hours every day. The location of Sunshine Suites in relation to shore diving sites was perfect. Head out of the parking lot and turn left or right and within a couple of minutes you can be in the warm, clear, blue water at dozens of great sites. The grounds are beautiful, quiet and green, and the food at Sunshine Grill is excellent.
