I have to agree with the many other reviewers who loved the location but was unimpressed with the hotel. If I didn't get the summer splash deal, I would have been pretty upset paying $300-400 a night for a hotel which really should be rated with 3 stars. The decor is so drab and institutional - it might have been cutting edge in the 80s or early 90s. Now it looks tired with cheap 80s stucco walls and stained institutional carpeting. The bathrooms also have a faint smell of urine everywhere (they clean them every day but I'm not sure why they can't get rid of that smell). Some of the staff members at the front desk and concierge were not helpful. We had to take our own luggage up and find our way to the rooms; the concierge guy said that all of the restaurants are fine and had nothing knowledgeable to say about recommendations. The food at the pool was very mediocre - it would be fine if we were staying at the marriott but I expect more from the Westin; again, it tastes like decent cafeteria food, very institutional. However, if you're willing to pay $30-40 for an entree at the other more upscale restaurants, I heard that the food is better but I refuse to pay that. We went to the local restaurants and really liked them and paid a lot less. Try Eats and Yoshi sushi. Also, while there is a coffee maker in the room, don't expect that the coffee packets they give you are free - they charge like $3.50 CI - never saw something like this before.
Despite all these negatives, we still managed to have a good time. The snorkeling was fabulous and you could snorkel right off the beach and find a great reef right near the hotel. Also, despite some bad experiences with the front desk and the concierge, the staff in general was courteous, and we thought the wait staff and bartenders were great, the drinks were good. However, my bottom line is that if the Westin wants to market this resort as a four star hotel, they have got to do a lot better!
