“Best beach, service needs some help.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2013

We came to the island for our 1 year anniversary and we have to say this is truly the most spectacular beach! We stayed here and next door at the Ritz. Service here needs some help- we walked by several service people and they not only did not say hi, they didn't even return our smiles. So this is the opposite of Ritz where everyone always says hello and initiates conversations. That aside they surprised us with champagne and chocolate covered strawberries!

When I was looking for reviews to research I wanted a one stop review with everything so I'll do that here for our trip:

Food:

Ferdinands- great breakfast buffet $20 well worth it, unlike the ritz champagne Sunday brunch $110 per person and it they didn't even have any breakfast food ready (they also charged us extra on top of the $110 for bottled water)

Sunshine grill-right across the westin and a casual chilis like spot that doesn't break the bank (huge portions as well) even has complimentary ginger lemon ice cream cones!

Eatz cafe- also directly across from westin. We loved this place and came here for breakfast and lunch. They have a huge menu with so many options! It's not the best food ever but is great for casual lunch and breakfast without breaking the bank.

Copper falls steak house- ten min walk from hotel. AMAZING! WE LOVED THIS PLACE! We went there twice for dinner it was that good. This place has a great ambiance and menu. They include one cocktail, starch, veggie and entre for a fixed $60 charge sooo worth it! Had the filet mignon both times and man was amazinggg! Also the sticky toffee pudding is outta this world

Eduardos- skip this place.... Drinks were bad and my husband got sick afterwards

Seven (inside Ritz)- underwhelming Sunday brunch, but went there for dinner and it was AMAZINGGG! I had the pre-fixe bourbon bbq menu $50, and the brisket was melt in ur mouth good. My mouth is still watering just thinking about it! My husband kept taking bites out of mine cause he loved it so much as well! The service there was spectacular as well..so friendly, catering, and personable...very cool vibe at night as well. But isn't cheap...with drinks and dessert our bill was around $270

Activities- sting ray city and snorkel sail- great time! We did all our activities thru red sail next to the beach. Also they provide free morning paddle board lessons thru westin just make a reservation.

Thank you for your detailed review of your stay with us. At The Westin Grand Cayman Seven Mile Beach Resort & Spa we are always grateful for guest feedback. We’re delighted that you chose to spend your one-year anniversary at our resort and had such a great time snorkeling and taking part in the various water activities offered by Red Sail Sports. It was however disappointing to learn that not every interaction with the staff was as you anticipated. We will share your comments with our team to re-emphasize our commitment in providing friendly service to our guests at all times. Thank you again for your review; we hope to welcome you back again soon.

The location of this property is fabulous, right on Seven Mile Beach with beautiful views and sunsets. The pool and grounds are well laid out and quite well kept, with the pool conveniently right at the edge of the beach. There is a swim up bar and food/drinks service directly to pool and beach, which was lovely. Staff were generally friendly and helpful. Breakfast buffet was in our opinion under par. There is a great cafe directly across the road from the resort called 'Eats' which serves a great range of dishes at affordable prices. The resort is very attractive from the outside and the lobby area has obviously been tastefully refurbished. The only down side of this resort is the rooms themselves and remaining interior of the hotel. They are looking quite tired and in need of a revamp. Also, whilst we understand that the Caribbean is a very humid environment, our room did have a stale smell which didn't improve during our 6 night stay.

We are glad you chose to stay with us and completely enjoyed spending time on Seven Mile Beach and at our hotel pool with its swim up bar. This was an amazing resort all around. From the location, scenery, staff, and activities we give it an excellent rating! The property is very clean and you can get full food and beverage service right on your beach chair steps from the Caribbean Sea! Check out the restaurants featuring Creole-Caribbean innovations by New Orleans Chef Michael Farrell! Also, they had the best Sunday brunch I've ever been to.

This is a great place for couples or families alike. People seem to use their inside voices even while outside, so its easy to relax. We will definitely be back!

*Didn't rate the spa because we didn't use it

My family and I stayed for seven nights. The Westin was great. The Westin employees were always very friendly and attentive to your needs. I had an island view room and upon check in asked if they would be able to up grade me. They were very nice and gave us a pool/ ocean view room that was very nice. Only negative I have on the hotel is that the double beds are way to small. Had a family of four. So two in a bed got rough by the seventh day. The beach was incredible always had chairs and umbrella. I am very happy that I stayed here. Saw the Ritz next door looked really nice too but double the price. So if you want an incredible beach and really nice place to stay at a fair price this is it... As for restaurants we did not eat at the Westin. We had an awesome lunch across the street at sunshine grill. Dinner two nights at Yoshi sushi really good and Ragazzi was excellent all these were reasonably priced for Cayman Islands.

Stayed at the Westin Grand Cayman in early July, 2013. We have been frequent guests of the hotel for 10 years and have seen many changes in decor and management. The most current changes have been the best yet!

The changes to the room furnishings have increased storage space and every room now has a refrigerator. Great for the bottled waters, snacks or last night's left overs. The new tables have multiple power outlets great for charging those electronics. We always stay for no less than 7 days, so room comfort is very important to us, and the Westin Grand Cayman now exceeds our requirements in that regard.

The lobby has been remodeled as well and is very comfortable. I find it strangely quiet nowadays, as opposed to even a year ago. Most people are now on their electronic communication devices in silence vs. socializing with people gathered from all over the world. This is true now everywhere (coffee shops, most hotel lobbies, etc) and more a testament to our current society. I miss the days of meeting new people and recommend people return to talking to each other in person (at least while on vacation).

In the service category, they have really enhanced the poolside staff and front desk staff. Drinks and food were always available and served quickly. Any room/hotel issues were resolved efficiently by the front desk. All of the staff makes a point to know the guests and tend to your needs. If you like your room cleaned early, just let the staff know and they will make a note of it.

The hotel is situated on the best part of the most beautiful beach in the world and all water sports amenities are at available (this is echoed in most other reviews). But most importantly, this hotel makes me feel like I am home with friends who truly care.

Room Tip: While the hotel will always do their best to accommodate upgrade requests, if the room type/location...

My family and I travel to the Cayman Islands at least twice a year. Our most recent trip was during our 10 year wedding anniversary in early July 2013. We always stay at the Westin. One of the biggest reasons we stay at the Westin is the beautiful beach and pools. No other resort on Seven Mile beach has the widest and deepest section of beach. The Ritz Carlton is next door and they have beach chairs wedged in so tightly that you can barely step between them.

The rooms at the Westin are clean and housekeeping is always polite. The property is going through a decor upgrade which is very nice. I would recommend booking a room away from the elevators and on floors above the ground floor. Sadly, not all people understand hallway etiquette. It is not uncommon for families with little children to let them run yelling up and down the halls, or to stand waiting for the elevator and have a very loud conversation at 7:00 in the morning. Likewise, the ground floor rooms are in hallways that are major arteries to other sections of the hotel such as the beach shop, business center, and a jewelry store, to name a few. The pool/beach view rooms are worth the price of upgrade, too.

The Westin is in the heart of Seven Mile Beach and has the soft white sand going from the beach into the water. The Northern and Southern parts of Seven Mile Beach can be a bit rocky and challenging to get in and out of the water without stepping on a sharp piece of coral. Even if you choose to stay at the Westin it may make sense to bring, or purchase reef or beach shoes if venturing out on excursions, or other parts of the island.

The Westin is a participant in the Starwood Preferred program with some limitations. You can learn more by calling reservations. High season is in the Winter months of November-March. The off-season rates are wonderful in the early Summer before hurricane season is in full swing.

Room Tip: Rooms above first floor and away from the elevator bays are the best. Also, island view rooms have...

We spent 6 nights as the Westin to attend a wedding. It was our first trip to the Carribean. We had a lovely room overlooking the pool and ocean . When I woke up the first morning I said "another day in paradise".Obtaining an umbrella was confusing--we thought that we had booked an umbrella for the 5 days but the following morning "our umbrella" was taken. We were told that we could not get an umbrella until 10 AM--when we came back they thought that they were all gone but would set one up if possible. That never happened. The umbrella situation was the most frustrating part of our stay. We saw others with umbrellas set up near the water which is what we would have liked. The day of the wedding, about an hour before the wedding we had a knock at the door . The cleaning person was ready to do our room. I explained that we would be finished in an hour and she said that she would be off duty then. At that time we were showering and getting dressed. Thought that this was odd. The beach and water are fantastic. The wedding planner was very nice and helpful and the wedding was perfect. Lovely location for a wedding. Overall we had a wonderful stay. The main complaint would be the umbrella situation. As the weather can be very hot this, to me, is a very, very important and I would hesitate to return for this reason. Would we have this issue at any Westin? I would suggest a person to explain all of the rules re: that situation when you check in and maybe reserve one for the time period that you will be there.

Visiting the Caribbean for the first time is always exciting but when you add in the special bonus of attending a wedding, it becomes extra special. We are thrilled that your stay with us was enjoyed and that you had such a wonderful time at the wedding. Please accept our apologies for any confusion regarding the umbrellas; we hope that this did not impact your overall experience. Please come back and visit us again soon at The Westin Grand Cayman Seven Mile Beach Resort & Spa.
