“Great Hotel on the Beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2013

Stayed here for a special event and the staff all remembered & treated us well. The room was not ready when we landed so we wandered around the hotel for an hour until it was done. I thought that was a bit unfair considering what we paid for the room. There is a water activity center (Red Sail Sports) onsite so there is a lot you can arrange here including trips to every part of the island. We took the dinner cruise which was amazing. The room was large enough and the king size bed was big and comfy. Bathroom was clean and plenty of hot water. We did not request a ground floor room but did get one. We had paid for an ocean view and couldn't see the ocean from the ground floor. They claimed they were unable to change it. It turned out OK though as I felt very safe there and you can easily slip out to the pool while staying near your room. Pool is huge with 2 Jacuzzis, and swim up bar. Ocean front is great. We paid for the breakfast buffet and we were not disappointed. The buffet is grand and there is plenty of ever kind of meal. Overall the hotel was very nice but not exceptional, especially considering the expense.

Room Tip: If requesting ocean front, specify upper floors. The ocean front is worth the extra cost as the view...

Stayed at The Westin June 1st-7th and had the most amazing time with my husband and two kids ages 4 and 2. Hotel is a short cab drive from airport and check-in went smoothly as we were in our room no more than 10-15 minutes after arriving there. Our room was an oceanfront double located on the 5th floor, and although room was on the smallish side, our family of 4 was able to manage just fine. I had read some reviews with regards to housekeeping not cleaning rooms, etc., however, throughout our stay there we always saw housekeeping in our hallways up until the evening, and our rooms were always cleaned. We did have an issue with our room's a/c making noise, however, that issue was resolved promptly by maintenance, so no complaints on that.

The beach at the hotel is gorgeous!! Easy access to pool and beach which was great with two little ones. Beach chairs and umbrellas were not an issue, but we would usually go to the beach in the afternoon and we are also in low season,. Also spent a fair amount of time at the pool which offers a lot of shade and is a pretty decent size. Getting pool chairs was also not an issue for us.

As far as restaurants are concerned, we only ate at Ferdinand's and Tortuga (poolside) and food was good at both. As other reviewers have mentioned, Westin is conveniently located within walking distance to several great restaurants.

The hotel staff was all very friendly and smiling, always making us feel welcomed. The atmosphere is very family friendly as the staff (and even other guests) were always stopping and chatting with the kids. My kids loved looking for crabs throughout the resort grounds and on several occasions staff would bring some to my kids so they can see them up close.

From all the reviews I have read, the one complaint that I agree with is the lack of channels offered on tv and the poor signal quality on the channels that you can actually see. With 2 kids in tow, we would be back in our room pretty early in the evening, so it would've been nice to have more channels available to watch before going to sleep. Not a deal breaker, just a minor inconvenience.

Overall, I would highly recommend The West Grand Cayman to anyone looking for a great family vacation and to relax at one of the world's most beautiful beaches. We will definitely stay here again when we return to GC!!

The Westin is so easy. A quick ride for the airport, the easiest access to beautiful Seven Mile Beach, and all the amenities you need from a hotel. You can walk to lots of great restaurants, do watersports off the beach, or get picked up for Cayman's best excursions. If you really want to relax and have a quintessential beach vacation- this is the easiest place to do it, no hassle whatsoever. The Cayman Islands is all in all a very convenient and modern place, but this is probably one of the most convenient hotels on it (the Ritz probably wins that but you're on the same beach next door...)
You do not really need to rent a car- if you want an adventurous exploration vacation try a hotel on the East End or a villa. If you want an easy lay-on-the-beach and maybe go to Stingray City vacation, the Westin is the best choice.

Room Tip: It's worth it to pay for the oceanfront. You are not going to want to sit on a balcony on the s...

I highly recommend staying at The Westin! The staff was amazingly friendly...everyone knew our son by the time we left which made the vacation an easy transition with staff members consistently saying hello. The beach was very clean, and groomed frequently. The restaurants at the hotel have excellent food and there's a coffee shop in the hotel friendly to visitors in pajamas. Compared to our vacation last year in the Bahamas, we were never woken in the middle of the night by noisy quests and had plenty of shade on the beach every day.

Room Tip: The beach front view is very limited due to palm trees

My husband and I just got back from eight wonderful days at the Westin on Seven Mile Beach in Grand Cayman. The hotel has been completely remodeled and is beautiful. The hotel staff, from the doormen to Executive Chef Thinesh Madhavan, are fantastic and tried in every way to make our stay there exceptional. The "heavenly beds" are great and the views are absolutely wonderful. If you plan to go there, make sure to include the Sunday Brunch which is one of the best we've ever eaten.

Great Hotel. Friendly staff. Got a great room on 1st floor. It was with a partial beach view. Good restraint right across the street. Great service from William the bellman and Penny who works at the desk for water sports. Everything is really close by. Rented a car which made it easier getting around.

Room Tip: We asked for upgrade and got a partial beach view.

The Westin Grand Cayman Seven Mile Beach Resort & Spa

My family and I just got back from a wonderful trip to the Westin Seven Mile Beach in the Caymans Island in May 2013. We cannot say enough good things about our stay. What a great hotel and staff!
Upon arrival, we were able to upgrade our room from an island view to an ocean view room since we were SPG members. The hotel sits right on Seven Mile beach with an incredible view of the beach and ocean. The hotel has a large pool, with a swim up bar and hot tub. It is surrounded by a large deck with lots of lounge chairs among tall palm trees. They also have a small grill by the pool with very good and reasonable priced lunch items. From there one walks onto the incredible soft white sands of Seven Mile Beach where there are lots of lounge chairs and umbrellas. The Westin hosted a daily sunset party from 5-7pm where guest could enjoy the music, drink specials and the gorgeous sunset that was directly off their beach area.
We also couldn’t help but notice the attention to detail the staff went to keep the hotel in tip top shape. They were constantly cleaning, dusting, touching up scuff marks, to keep the place looking like new. All of the staff, from the front desk, the concierge, the door men and the cleaning crew was extremely friendly and helpful.
The concierge desk was very knowledgeable and helpful making restaurant recommendations and then calling to make reservations for us. Our family had several superb dinners that added to an already great trip.
Also, Red Sail Sports has a small office right on the beach which rented jet skis, catamarans, snorkel gear, paddle boards, scuba diving trips, etc. They offered free paddle board lessons every morning at 9am that always filled up quick. It was nice to have an activity for the kids to do, besides lying in the sun all day.
The only negative comment we have about our trip was we didn’t stay longer! The Cayman Islands is a great place for sightseeing, diving, relaxing and enjoying wonderful restaurants.

Room Tip: Go for the Ocean View Room, its worth the upgrade
