“Great time at the Marriott Grand Cayman”

Just returned from a 7 day stay at the Marriott Grand Cayman. Had a lovely ocean view room on the 4th floor. The staff was uniformly courteous, pleasant and helpful. I read several reviews before leaving and found some to be accurate and some not. For example, there was no issue of finding chairs at the beach. There were plenty, and the pool staff/outside bar staff were very attentive. Based on a review I read, we skipped the Friday Buccaneer night and didn't miss anything. We heard, and saw, the entertainment from our hotel balcony. We had good meals at The Wharf and The Lobster Pot. We had great meals at Ristorante Pappagallo, Deckers and Ragazzi. We had one OK meal at Cimboco's (dinner) and Eats Cafe (breakfast). Most days we ate at the hotel breakfast buffet. We heard people rave about dinner at The Grand Old House. Try the 2 hour catamaran cruise booked through Red Sail Sports (booked at the Marriott, cruise left from the Hyatt down the street). Great value at $35 a person. All food is extremely expensive. We had an appetizer and 3 martinis at the Ritz-Carlton which cost us $67 US. Snacks are available across the street at the Texaco mini mart. Bottled water and soda available in the hotel gift shop. No vending machines though. Several American fast food places within walking distance as well as Chicken, Chicken, a rotisserie chicken place. We rented a car and were glad to have it. Don't miss the beach at Rum Point, a 45 minute drive from the hotel. The shopping is plentiful in Georgetown. Expect it to be busy on days when cruise ships are in. We saw as few as 2 one day and as many as 7 one day. Hit Breezes or Margaritaville for a good view of Georgetown. Expect a long wait at Margaritaville. US currency is accepted everywhere. Change is more likely than not given in CI dollars. The only negative was the airport departure. I'd heard that you should arrive 3 hours before departure. We did and needed every bit of that time. We left on a Saturday which apparently is a bad idea. Horribly disorganized and ridiculous. Once we got through that process, our flight did leave on time. One flight, which boarded just 15 minutes ahead of us, was cancelled abruptly. 100+ passengers streamed back into the small terminal to make new arrangements. No one told the inside airline personnel though and they became flustered when approached by the passengers. An even less positive airport experience for those poor folks.

“Very relaxing honeymoon!”

Marriott Grand Cayman Beach Resort

We spent 6 days in Grand Cayman and thoroughly enjoyed the hotel. Everyone was super friendly at the hotel and service staff outside the hotel. One thing that suprised us was the expense of meals - a typical $30 in the US would run about $50 or $60 CI (Cayman Island dollars). The conversion rate when we were down there was $1.25 US dollars to $1.00 CI. So keep that in mind.

The location of the Marriott was great for us---out of the main traffic and tourist areas, yet within about 15 to 20 minutes walking distance. There were also a ton of restaurants around the hotel if we wanted a variety.

We're pretty active so we snorkeled at the hotel. Their are lots of fish in the water and the man-made reefs are great for snorkeling. We enjoyed the parrots they had on property, Ruby and Romeo, and looked forward to seeing them at breakfast. Their breakfast buffet was extensive and the service staff was always super nice. One morning our server asked us about our trip and we mentioned we were there for our honeymoon, that afternoon we were surprised with a bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries in our room! It was so sweet!

We rented a car for the day and it was super convenient since there were cars on property. We rode horses on the beach, visited Pedro St. James and drove around the island. It was nice to get away from the super touristy area of Georgetown. Apparently the restaurants in that area close down early anyways depending on the cruise ship schedule.

It was a great time and I'd highly recommend the Marriott if you're looking for a hassle free stay. We were super relaxed, the room was super clean and we enjoyed the hotel thoroughly!

My husband and I just got back from a stay at the Marriott Beach Resort in Grand Cayman. It was awesome. The beach is gorgeous (except for the cruise ships that congregate down to the left) and the hotel was beautiful. The turtle lagoon was so great at night. We had awful weather though, so my advice is to wait until May through September to ensure calmer weather. Also, if you're going to dive, Wall to Wall Divers is great! Giles, Dusty and Blair were awesome. I give them my highest recommendation! Coconut Joe's and Aqua Beach restaurants are very reasonable with great food, and they're right across the street from the hotel. Stingers at the Comfort Suites next door is terrible though, so I would skip that one. Solana, the Marriott restaurant is a little pricey, but well worth it. Make sure you check Priceline before booking any hotel in GC- we got $85 a night off from the listed rate!

My husband and I recently returned from the Marriott in Grand Cayman. Although the resort is nice we choose this hotel because we used Marriott Rewards Points. It is not the best resort on Seven Mile Beach but it is new and clean and the staff was extremely friendly. And you really can't go wrong at Marriott.

I'll comment on the beach and our experience with restaurants.

Beach
Seven mile beach is beautiful but the beach directly associated with Marriott is small. However, because of the time of year we didn't have any problems finding space. But if you go during high season you may want to take this into consideration.

The water was a bit murky but the snorkeling was great. The water was a bit rocky for 2 days but then the tide shifed (I guess) and the rocks were no longer an issue.

Restaurants
I'm sure by now you've heard that Grand Cayman is expensive and that's true. We only had a few meals at the Marriott one $50 breakfast and 2 lunches. The breakfast was in the restaurant called the Red Parrott.

I recommend eating breakfast at Cicomo across the street in the strip mall behind the Texaco. Or Coconut Joe's across the street in the other direction. Both are walking distance.

We had lunch at the Sol Bar restaurant. Our meals were decent but again a bit pricey. My husband had a hamburger and I have a mozzarella and tomato pianni and the cost was $45. I believe my husband also had a beer.

Our dinners were very good experiences. We had dinner at a restaurant called Mezza (also walking distance) which had a jazzed themed (although no jazz was played just the decorations) and a dinner "special." On Friday nights they offer a 3 course meal with a bottle of wine for $100 (CI) or $120 US. And the food was good.

We also recommend Casa Havana at the Westin Hotel. This is one of the best restaurants on the island and it didn't disappoint us. The menu is very creative and the ambiance is very pleasant. The service is exemplary. The menu is a mixture of Cuban and Asian cuisine. Don't let that keep you away there is a good variety on the menu.

The last restaurant recommendation is Hemingway's in the Hilton Hotel. They have the GREATEST lobster chowder. And the best desert!!! It is a must go to!!!

We did some shopping and had lunch at a casual place called Breezes in Georgetown. It was fun and has a nice view of the sea and the town.

If you like to dance and/or listen to some very good local music then the place to go is Royal Palms (on Seven Mile Beach walking distance from the Marriott).

Have fun on your vacation.

“Great Get Away!”

Marriott Grand Cayman Beach Resort

Just returned from 6 days at the Marriott Beach Resort in Grand Cayman. I've been to a lot of Islands but, I must say, this was the friendliest yet!! The Marriott staff went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. They were attentive and accommodating...the hotel is beautiful, beach is small but gorgeous! I'm not sure what other reviewers meant when they said the beach was rocky...there was not a rock to be found when I was there. Restaurants at the hotel were great! On one pariticularly humid day our server, Brendon, actually brought us chilled towels to put around our necks!!
I didn't think the island was any more expensive than others. Food was excellent!! It was a very restful and relaxing vacation and I would go back again!
