Just returned from a 7 day stay at the Marriott Grand Cayman. Had a lovely ocean view room on the 4th floor. The staff was uniformly courteous, pleasant and helpful. I read several reviews before leaving and found some to be accurate and some not. For example, there was no issue of finding chairs at the beach. There were plenty, and the pool staff/outside bar staff were very attentive. Based on a review I read, we skipped the Friday Buccaneer night and didn't miss anything. We heard, and saw, the entertainment from our hotel balcony. We had good meals at The Wharf and The Lobster Pot. We had great meals at Ristorante Pappagallo, Deckers and Ragazzi. We had one OK meal at Cimboco's (dinner) and Eats Cafe (breakfast). Most days we ate at the hotel breakfast buffet. We heard people rave about dinner at The Grand Old House. Try the 2 hour catamaran cruise booked through Red Sail Sports (booked at the Marriott, cruise left from the Hyatt down the street). Great value at $35 a person. All food is extremely expensive. We had an appetizer and 3 martinis at the Ritz-Carlton which cost us $67 US. Snacks are available across the street at the Texaco mini mart. Bottled water and soda available in the hotel gift shop. No vending machines though. Several American fast food places within walking distance as well as Chicken, Chicken, a rotisserie chicken place. We rented a car and were glad to have it. Don't miss the beach at Rum Point, a 45 minute drive from the hotel. The shopping is plentiful in Georgetown. Expect it to be busy on days when cruise ships are in. We saw as few as 2 one day and as many as 7 one day. Hit Breezes or Margaritaville for a good view of Georgetown. Expect a long wait at Margaritaville. US currency is accepted everywhere. Change is more likely than not given in CI dollars. The only negative was the airport departure. I'd heard that you should arrive 3 hours before departure. We did and needed every bit of that time. We left on a Saturday which apparently is a bad idea. Horribly disorganized and ridiculous. Once we got through that process, our flight did leave on time. One flight, which boarded just 15 minutes ahead of us, was cancelled abruptly. 100+ passengers streamed back into the small terminal to make new arrangements. No one told the inside airline personnel though and they became flustered when approached by the passengers. An even less positive airport experience for those poor folks.
