I went to the Grand Cayman with my family (wife, brother-in law, his gf, father-in law and mother in-law), and loved the Marriott. We spent the first two days on the East End of the Island at the Morrits Tortuga Club and were extremely disspointed in the room and overall cleanliness of the East End Tortuga. It was a really nice change when we got to 7 mile and the Marriott to see there attention to detail and the way they keep the place.
ROOMS: Four of us stayed in a standard room without ocean view but had a balcony overlooking the turtle pond area. The room was nice and clean and what we were looking for. My wife's parents stayed in a larger suite overlooking the ocean with a beautiful balcony, really nice.
STAFF: The staff was extremely friendly and went out of their way to help. Nelson, the door man, was relentlessly upbeat and a genuinely nice guy. It was great seeing him every day and I always looked forward to chatting with him. He was courteous, professional and just an awesome person.
I'm an early riser and woke up around 4:30 to go to the Crossfit gym around the corner and the staff, usually one person at the main desk were very helpful and cheery at that ungodly hour helping me find the place on the first day.
FOOD AND DRINK: We did lunch almost every day at the pool/beach restaurant and the food was great, nice variety, with awesome fish tacos and a killer southern fried chicken sandwich. The staff there was super friendly and nice as well. The bar staff was great and the frozen drinks were made with real fresh fruit. I got the breakfast burrito every morning from the coffee stand and while it took a while to come out, 15 minutes or so, it was worth it.
LOCATION: Great, walking distance to Camana Bay and some nice restaurants. If you wanted to stay local you'd never have to take a cab. The island and area are super safe so its very comfortable walking around at night. Even at 5 am when I would go to the gym in the dark I felt safe.
POOL: Really nice, overlooking the ocean so you still get that beach vibe while your sitting there. My father-in law hates the beach and loves hanging by the pool which I usually dread having to do but this wasn't bad. The pool is literally on the beach so if you get the right chairs your basically on the beach without sand. Hot tub was nice and a good temperature.
BEACH: Super clean and relaxing. Wide property so you have nice personal space, never had trouble finding 6 seats. Staff always coming by for drinks and food. No locals trying to sell you hair braiding or jewelry and nobody in banana boats hassling you to buy an hour on a jet ski and hitting on guests teenage daughters. Water was awesome. I'm a runner and I enjoyed jogging 7 mile beach, down to the Ritz and back. I saw pretty much the whole beach and aside form the Ritz and Westin, Marriott has the nicest beach area.
SPA: Did not go, but my brother-in law and his girlfriend raved about it.
OVERALL: Probably going back next year. Marriotts are always nice, but I liked this island and this hotel better then the Marritott Aruba or similar hotels on other islands.
