“Overall a great place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2013

Stayed for 10 nights in mid-April. The property itself is much smaller than other Marriott resorts we have visited. It was neat, clean and the people were VERY friendly. I can honestly way we never encountered a grumpy or non-helpful person during our stay.

One negative is that we had to move twice. The first move was to get a better view - there is a large awning over the outdoor restaurant that blocked much of the beach view from our room. No problem - our choice and they were great about moving us to a higher floor.

The next move was not so great. Be aware that they use rooms adjoining guest rooms (we were in 544) for conferences. We were awakened at 7:30am on Monday morning by loud voices, laughter and clapping from a meeting starting up next to us. When we went down to the front desk we were told that the meeting was only that day. OK, no problem. When we were awaked the next morning by the same thing we were not happy - the meetings were actually lasting until Wednesday. After some wrangling we were moved to another room where no meetings were scheduled.

The beach area in front of the hotel is small and can get crowded, but the staff is very helpful in trying to get you chairs and an umbrella. The snorkeling right off the beach is great. We would usually walk a little to the north (right as you are facing the water) to avoid the rocks in the water.

The food at the hotel is excellent (especially breakfast). The food and beverage supervisor, Carlos E, went out of his way to greet us every day and make sure we were happy with the food and service.

Room Tip: If you are next to a "Presidential Suite" make sure there are no meetings scheduled next d...

The Marriott Grand Cayman is an Amazing hotel, in an awesome location on Grand Caymans famed Seven Mile Beach. The employees and service at this hotel are unsurpassed. Nothing was ever too much and many employees knew us by name. Hannah the beach drink and food server was nothing short of wonderful. She was there to take care of our every need, and was so lovely to talk too. Also, Rachel the lobby bar server was a sweetheart, so kind and caring. The only negative thing is, the hotel is in need of updating, especially the guest rooms. Not that there bad or anything, they are just dated. I am very picky and had no problem with it, it's just something that you notice. I heard from the employees that a major renovation project on the hotel will start this Summer. This was our third stay at this particular Marriott and it won't be our last.

Room Tip: The higher rooms have better views.

We recently spent 5 nights at the Marriott Grand Cayman Beach Resort. We usually stay at Marriott properties when we can, we are "platinum members" which gives us a few perks like room upgrades, late check out, etc. When we checked in they gave us the run around about an upgrade but finally gave in when we asked for the front desk manager. We were there at what is considered slow season so it was clear the upgrade was available. The service was good, and other than the front desk guy, very friendly. The property isn't as clean as I would expect from a Marriott Resort. The lobby bathroom was just plain dirty, and the halls, common areas and pool was not kept up to the standard of a Marriott or the price. The courtyard and turtle ponds were lovely, the pool seems much bigger on their website. The beach area is tiny! very crowded and not much room for the chairs. A couple of the days we were there the ocean was very rough and it was difficult to swim, plus a lot of seaweed and trash had washed up. The staff was slowly raking it up but everyone was piled around the small pool which was really uncomfortable and LOUD! I expected a lot from the resort and I felt very disappointed. It wasn't horrible, it just wasn't as great as it looks on the website. I wouldn't choose to stay there again.

This was such a lovely hotel and I loved the really open lobby. I loved being greeted with a beverage and the exceptionally pleasant front desk personnel.

Rooms were of a generous size and had very comfortable beds.

The pool and restaurants surrounding it were such great places to relax after a work meeting.

The location is in good proximity to other hotels and restaurants.

First choice for a hotel in Cayman.

Having stayed in Mariotts whenever we traveled, my husband and I figured it was a no-brainer when planning our trip to caymen island. This was formally a Radisson. When we pulled up and I saw the planters with dead plants, or should i say sticks hanging out of them, I should have had an inkling of what was to come.Very small property. Very crowded beach and pool. Desperately in need of updating. Poor layout in the hotel and outdoors. Garden area pretty, but seating out of the way and not easily accessible. Spa lobby had tired seating area with worn furniture and run down pillows. 1 gift shop, 1 indoor & 1 outdoor restaurant. As for staff, busboys and cleaning staff very nice.
We paid for an ocean view room, however we were placed in a room with the awning from the restaurant below blocking our view. Also, the room was very large with barely any furniture, along with a tub in the bath with the finish worn off! The front desk manager, Alex, said there were no rooms available and he would switch us in the am. We contacted our agent who is a Marriott preferred vendor. She was given a run around...told the hotel mgr, Edoardo, was in Miami for a meeting, then someone else told her he was on the grounds somewhere, didn't work weekends, etc. ps~never saw him or heard from him!
Alex, asked us to give them a chance and offered dinner free and comped that night's room. Very fair, we thought...lets give it a try. The dinner was at their outdoor beach bar, a buffet, not the restaurant inside. Only 6 tables occupied...poison. I should have known he'd send us there. Initially, while waiting for our room, which still wasnt ready, he apologized and told us to enjoy a cocktail-on the house..When we handed over the coupon he gave us, they said it was only for a soft drink. Nowhere did it say that. We went by what he offered. Little did i know that I would need many cocktails to get through that vacation! We were supposed to be changed first thing in the am to a room with a "kitchenette". ( what am i cooking on vacay???.) We tracked Alex down in the afternoon and were shown a room, no kitchenette, and not the BEST Jr. Suite he had, as he promised. Went back down and he gave us the one next door. Yes, it had a kitchenette, a counter with fake cabinets and a microwave. This room at least, had furniture, even though nothing matched. The pub table and chairs had the finish beat up and worn off. I've seen better furniture left out on the curb! The only thing that said it was a Marriott was the shower curtain and the bed! It is in desperate need of updating.
Now the facilities...the first day we sat on the beach. Soooo crowded, everywhere. 4 rows deep, all lounges side by side, umbrellas touching ( we were in the last row, under the concrete pool wall) . Lounges are filthy, and some of the chairs had broken straps. Day two, we attempted the pool. Very tight walkway. I say this because all afternoon carts were heading back and forth in front of all of us, preparing for a wedding. By the way, in order to prepare, a chunk of lounges were removed from the beach, making it even smaller! Groups of locals were in and out of the pool all day, coming off the adjacent free beach. They were very nice, but hey, I paid alot to swim here! We felt like we were on spring break.
The morning of day 3, we called our agent and told her to get us out of here! We tried to make it work, but it was just not the Mariott experience we expected and always enjoyed. She asked what took us so long!! Sorry to say, but we ran out of there like it was on fire! We stayed at the Westin and had an experience of a lifetime. Giant, uncrowded beach. 2 pools. Lots of pleasant staff, yet unintrusive. They were amazing and the facility was the total opposite of the Mariott...impeccable grounds, peaceful and quietly elegant surroundings, professionally managed, excellent food and service. Stay at the Westin!

Room Tip: Wait till they renovate, then pick a room on a high floor (as per an employee)

Stayed for 4 nights. The location is great and super convenient. It's also really helpful that there's an Avis in the Lobby. The rooms are clean and most of the staff is courteous. The beach was generally pretty crowded and it was a little weird because the beach space to the left and the right of the hotel (which I assume belongs to other hotels) was practically empty. It's true that its pretty rocky when you swim but it was still nice. The concierge wasn't helpful. She basically tried to talk us out if every excursion we asked about. We eventually rented a car and found everything ourselves. room service got our breakfast order wrong everyday (and it's not cheap). The food at sol bar is delicious but the drinks are extremely weak. If you're low maintenance, it's a good enough place to stay. I might try somewhere else next time but I

I had a wonderful stay at the Marriott. It is centrally located on Seven Mile Beach and we could walk to many restaurants from there. We checked in at 1:30 pm and they upgraded us immediately with early check-in. The staff were friendly and professional. The rooms were large and clean. The Red Parrott restaurant had a wide selection of food at breakfast/brunch that was worth it for $25 US. you can travel by bus easily for $2.50 to most locations.
The beach is not very deep but is a reasonable size with a beautiful view. During the rainy season seaweed does washup onto the shore line so the poolside is an alternative option. The pool was very clean but get there by mid day at least to get a lounge chair. The inner courtyard is nice with turtles and outdoor seating with a swing.
The hairdryer in the room is not very strong so consider bringing your own if you like it hotter. Overall I got a great deal for a quality hotel. Happy with my choice. :)

Room Tip: Always ask for an upgrade especially during the off season.
