“Very good hotel, kid friendly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2013

Consistent with most other reviews, we found the hotel nice -- and nicer than I expected. Yes, the rooms could use a bit of updating, but the very welcoming staff and great location make up for those shortcomings. And true, it's not the Ritz, but if you book it right, it's cheaper than the Ritz and you get what you pay for (which is uniformly expensive on Grand Cayman).

Service was beyond reproach. Everyone in the resort from the room attendants to the servers on the beach always had a smile on their face and were more than willing to go above and beyond what was expected from them. As good as the staff was, Marriott needs to make some capital improvements in their guest rooms and hallway common areas. Our room had tears in the carpet and the hallway carpet had many stains and was very dirty overall. With that said, I would stay here again just because of the staff..

I visited Grand Cayman with my husband and we stayed at the Marriott. This was our first time to the island and we were very happy with our hotel choice. First of all the staff is fabulous. Very nice and courteous. There was a mistake with our room and it was corrected very quickly and professionally. The hotel itself is very nicely done, common areas are very well laid out. They even have a separate area designated for printing boarding passes. Nice. Our room was nice, nothing great, it's about time to update the bathroom. A big plus was that the room seemed to be sound proofed. I usually wake up from hearing people in the hallways or adjoining rooms. This did not happen in this hotel, and we had a baby in the room next to us! Well done Marriott! The beach is right out back, there were plenty of chairs and you can get umbrellas upon request. The only complaint I have is that they charge you $15/day to have internet access in your room. Wifi in the lobby is free. We would definitely stay here again.

Service is the best we've seen in ages. Look for our favorites Nordris, Adalberto and Carlos at the Solana Restaurant and Dannis taking care of your every need on the beach or from the Beach Bar. The Seven Mile Beach has perfect sand and water. Beautiful.

The beach is back from having disappeared in October 2012. You have to pay for wi-fi except in lobby. $12/day and only gold and platinum rewards members get a credit. Marriott owns the Ritz so I guess dinging guests for every little thing is now the rule. GC is expensive enough without the hotels gouging you.

Expect families with kids ago haven't figured out condos are better choices.

On the beach the attendant will position your umbrella and reposition it when the sun shifts. Beach is better than the pool because of squatters who leave a towel and paperback on the lounges and go away for most of the day. The so called policy against this is ignored by the hotel.

Servers wander around the pool and beach and there is always a free frozen treat offered each afternoon.

Floating rafts in the water and a man made reef for snorkeling. You can walk north from the beach as far as you want to see the wall to wall condos and the other two beach hotels - Ritz and Westin. Comfort Inn has no beach and is behind another luxury condo and Sunshine is across the road.

New competition coming from a new 5 or 4 star hotel planned for the northern part of west bay; this was a Holiday then Courtyard before Ivan.

Loved the hotel, loved the location, staff was amazing. We ate at the beach bar on Saturday night and it was sushi night. The sushi was good and the bar staff were friendly and fun - they also had live music right next to the beach bar which was cool.

All the staff were super friendly and accomodating - our kids loved them!

After a reservation snaffu (we had reserved and got a confirmation for a junior suite with a king bed but were put in one with 2 twins) we were upgraded the next day to one of their suites. While it is quite large, the bedroom as it turns out is over the bar. Therefore at 7 am this morning we woke up to Bob Marley music instead of the ocean waves. While we are early risers but I thought is might be fun to stay in bed till about 7:30 am or so. Nope, because at 7:30 they guy with the buzz saw showed up right underneath our bedroom balcony and started sawing what looks like some sort of awning. My husband called down for them to kill the music but instead we have the romantic lull of a buzzsaw. It is now 10 am as I write this and still going on. We just happen to check out other hotels yesterday while we drove around the island but unfortunately everything is booked. We recommend that if you plan to be here stay at the Westin or the Ritz Carlton. This is just an overpriced motel that definitely needs updating. Some of the staff is quite lovely, especially the breakfast bar staff. The turtles in the courtyard pond are very cute. Other than that there is little to commend it.

Room Tip: choose one without a buzz saw in front of it. Probably a room facing the courtyard would be quieter.
