“Great location and service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2013

We stayed here during a time when the resort was 100% sold out, but we did not have any problems with noise at night and the beach and pool had plenty of chairs and towels for all guests. The beach has some rather large coral under the water, great for the fish, not so great for the toes so be a bit careful. We did have a problem with some signage indicating that the beach and pool would be closed for an event, which turned out not to be completely true. The manager and her staff went out of their way to make sure we were happy. Could not have asked for more service. Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone!

The grounds are beautiful. The staff is friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean with comfy beds and I liked how they are laid out. Even though the resort was pretty full we didn't hear noise from other rooms. The beach right in front of the resort has a manmade reef which attracts a lot of fish. For a sandier (and less fishy) swimming experience, just move down the beach a little to swim. The Marriott has nice anchored floatation pods in the ocean to relax in. Katherine in the Kids Club is great. There are activities for the kids each day, some are free and some you must pay for. Tip: Book your trip to see the stingrays right at the resort. The Catamaran breakfast trip was awesome and you get there before all the other boats arrive.

Room Tip: If you don't upgrade to an oceanfront room, ask for an outer room (some rooms face the courtyard...

My husband and I came down for a few days from 4/13-4/17 and had a great stay at the Marriott. We were pleasantly surprised to get upgraded to an ocean view right by the pool (husband is Marriott awards member) so we could experience the stunning view from our room. Overall we had a great experience - unbelievably friendly and professional staff, well-maintained property, beautiful beach, great weather, and fun drinks. We used Red Sail for the Stingray City/Rum Point Excursion (fun) and Indigo Divers for scuba (loved). We've been down the Caymans and stayed at the Ritz and Westin and think an advantage the Marriott has is it's great location - can walk to Georgetown or Camana Bay for shopping and dinner. Cab rides can be expensive down there so it's nice to have this option. We didn't have a bad meal while we were here - Casanova (George Town), Abacus (Camana Bay), Ristorante Pappagallo (West Bay) and Seven (Ritz). The rooms were a little dated, but large and clean. (Westin's a little dated too and Ritz while nicer rooms, most are no where near the beach, but across the road.) Overall, would happily return!

I tried to use my rewards points for one night. I was told that three rooms were available, but they would not let me use my points for the room. What is the point of being a rewards point member if you can't use them. I will be looking at getting a Westin membership instead.

We stayed here for 6 nights during Spring Break. From the moment you arrive, you feel like you are on vacation and are greeted by the friendly staff. When we checked in, we received the rum punch and rum cake (very good). We were told that our room would be a while, so we went to eat at their restaurant Solana. By the time we finished, our room was ready. We had a courtyard view room. The room itself was nice. The beds were a little soft, but the linens were good. The housekeeping staff was fantastic and did a wonderful job cleaning the room. Each room has a nice little balcony or patio, depending on your floor, that is very nice to sit and relax on. My only complaint was that toilet did have an unusual odor to it, but it was okay with the lid down. After we put our luggage in the room, we went to the beach. There is one word to describe it: "WOW!". The water is crystal-clear and there are so many fish and other animals. The snorkeling here is great. The pool complex is VERY nice. The pool was never really crowded when we were using it. The poolside service is very convenient when wanting a quick bite to eat. The courtyard here is VERY relaxing and calming. To end our fantastic day, we enjoyed watching the beautiful sunset each night. The Kids' Club is very cool for kids. They had movie by the pool night, pajama parties, and beach bonfire night from which we enjoyed Sm'ores. Kathryn is very good with the kids and does a lot of fun activities with them to keep them busy. In fact, the whole staff here is very kind, friendly and welcoming. This hotel is a great place to relax and bring your family.

The Hotel
We spent ten nights at this hotel in the beginning of April. We were able to book our stay with points and an "upcharge" of $25.00 per night. Due to my husband's status with Marriott, we requested a room with an ocean view. Although my husband stays at Marriott's around 100 nights a year, we never did get upgraded. Our room was a standard guest room overlooking the courtyard. We did receive a nice cheese plate and two splits of champagne due to status and to celebrate my husband's 50th. The rooms are nothing special, but they are adequate.
As many reviewers have stated, the size of the pool and beach are inadequate given the number of guests. You must stake your spot EARLY-especially at the pool. The staff are very attentive and outgoing. We did not eat at the hotel as the prices are insane, and there are so many better dining alternatives close by. We did, however, purchase sandwiches from the kiosk in the lobby-about $10.00 US each. A cup of coffee is over $5.00US with small tip! Keep an eye out for activities and freebies on-site. We received free popscicles and cotton candy at the beach. Do attend the beach bonfire at night. The setting is lovely and you get to make your own s'mores- a nice touch.
ACTIVITIES
There is not a lot to see and do in Grand Cayman. It is a huge diving spot, but we do not dive.
We highly recommend renting a car for at least one day. The island is small and easily navigable, if you feel comfortable driving on the left. The drive to the Eastern and Northern shores is beautiful! Stop on the way and see the blowholes-super cool! Also, if you go early, swing by the Wreck bar. The beach is small but lovely. When the day trippers arrive (in throngs), head North to Kaibo for a beachside snack or lunch. The water is not as nice here, but it is less crowded.
If you head out to the West Bay area, you must go to Cemetary beach. Anyone in the know will tell you that this is the beach to visit if you want beauty and less crowds.

The visit to Stingray City is the number one attraction for a reason. It is truly an amazing experience. If you want to save about $50.00US per person, do not book with Red Sail Sports. They are located at the hotel and are crowded and overpriced. Please support the local businesses-the economy on Grand Cayman is struggling. We booked on-line with Tours Cayman. They will pick you up at the hotel. The 3 hour excursion, with 3 stops was $30.00 US per person. The staff was friendly and helpful and the tour was a blast.
If you want to snorkel, purchase gear before coming to the island. Why pay the overpriced rental fee? The Marriott has a manmade reef right offshore. We have seen many more varieties of fish elsewhere, but if you are new to the experience, you will find it easy and interesting. The hotel offers some free non-motorized activities, but you will nedd to reserve equipment first thing in the A.M.
Georgetown, the capital, is nothing to write home about. There are tons of shops, but nothing of interest to buy. If you feel you must visit, go ahead, but don't say I didn't warn you!

DINING
Grand Cayman is all about food! There are a plethora of high end restaurants within walking/driving disatance. The Seven Mile area is safe for walking at night. In Seven Mile we dined at Ragazzi, Agua, Eduardo's and Chicken! Chicken!. We also went to Ortanique for coffee and dessert. The setting at night is beautiful, and you can feed the Tarpon in the canal. For higher end dining in Seven Mile, our favorite was Agua. Chicken!Chicken! is a must if you enjoy great food at a reasonable (for Grand Cayman) price. Please be aware that the prices are 20-25% higher. We experienced sticker shock a lot. We always stop at the supermarket to keep snacks and lunch items on hand, but the market prices are astronomical! The less expensive market is Foster's Food Fair. You can get take-out coffee for approximately $1.60 a cup.
We enjoyed dining in the West Bay area. It is less crowded, and some of the restaurants are on the water. You must do the Monday Night BBQ buffat at Macabuca/Cracked Conch. At $18.00US per person it is a great bargain. The food was very good and all you can eat, and the dock setting is lovely at Sunset. We also dined at Calypso Grill and Morgan's Harbor in West Bay. Both meals were outstanding. You must try the Sticky Toffee Pudding at Calypso Grill. It is island famous for a reason- it's incredible!
OVERALL
Grand Cayman is a safe, comfortable island. The water is beautiful and the people are lovely and gracious. It is a great "beach" vacation. Very relaxing. However, if you are adventurous, interested in history, culture, or sightseeing, you will be disappointed. We enjoyed our "downtime" here, but would be unlikely to return.

Absolutely breathtaking scenery and location. It was my first time in the Caribbean and the staff here were extremely accommodating and definitely made my family and I feel right at home. The rooms and ammentities were clean and the food was fabulous too.
