“Service plus but some issues”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2013

Don't think you will find a resort with better service anywhere in the Carribbean. Staff bend over backwards to make sure you are satisfied with meals, bar service and and issues that arise. Room was clean, well maintained. All staff well trained from front door to beach. Food at all restaurants was quite good with varied theme nights.
Two or three issues - beach is at the southerly end of 7 mile beach - it was way too small and narrow for resort size and was one of the most crowded areas on the entire beach especially as it was a fully booked resort. Get down early to get a lounger by pool! You can always get a lounger and umbrella on the beach (without paying anyone) but within inches of other people. In heat of the day will need shade. Food and drinks twice the price it should be - went to local grocery to check this out.
Nice beach for walking - take money for stops along the way at other resorts or bars. Very informal island - no dressing up required. Other restaurants can be walked to, taxi $5 to Georgetown - but don't go when Cruise ships in!

Room Tip: Had beach front room - get higher elevation if you want a good view. Balconies all very small. AC wo...

You can always count on a quality hotel when staying at a Marriott. This hotel was really a great choice for our recent stay. The hotel was super clean and the entire staff was so friendly and helpful. We had a great package that included a $50 food and beverage credit which was very nice. The service in all the restaurants was super. We enjoyed the buffet breakfast in the morning.
After reading some of the reviews before we arrived I was a liitle nervous about the beach. The beach is spacious enough with hundreds of lounge chairs available. It may not be as large as other beaches on other islands but it never felt crowded and out hotel was at fully booked.
Also the pool area is very nice, however to get a space at the pool required getting to the pool at 6am...something that is not necessary when there are plently of chairs on the beach.
The locattion on Seven Mile beach is excellent, many restaurants and shops are in walking distance. If you require a taxi, the staff at the front door are always there to call and within minutes a taxi pulls up...shout out to Nelson for always offering excellent professinal service with a smile.

What a lovely little place.I had a room at the back, but it was big enough and very quiet. The beach is lovely and the service very good, and so easy to get anywhere on the island from there, Lovely little pool and great for couples and families. Will use it again when I we come again.

My boyfriend and I (late 20's/early 30's) just returned from eight nights in Grand Cayman (February 23rd - March 3rd). We stayed at The Marriott one night, a condo for five nights (Cayman Reef Resort) and The Westin for two nights. We had an amazing trip and we were happy we flew down one night early (Saturday to Sunday trip rather than Sunday to Sunday) and stayed at The Marriott.

This was our third time to Grand Cayman and our second stay at The Marriott Grand Cayman Beach Resort. While waiting in line for check-in, I noticed several people from our flight down from JFK who were agitated with the hotel staff because their rooms weren't ready. It was 11:30am and the hotel clearly relays check-in time is 4pm...my recommendation is pack your bathing suit, coverup, and flip flops in your carry on so you can change in the spa and head straight to the beach. Also, being polite goes a long way! We were relaxed and friendly with the guest services agent, Aileen, (while drinking a complimentary check-in rum cocktail--who wouldn't be happy that you're on vacation) and she relayed our room would be ready early for us. We were given a nice room with an interior garden view on the third floor. On our last visit, we paid the extra money for an oceanfront king and it was worth the price so I would recommend the upgrade because Oceanfront at The Marriott means Oceanfront (where as at The Westin it means pool view with an ocean view in the distance--simply because The Westin is set further back from the water).

Once we were in our room I called down and booked a 5pm massage at La Mer Spa (located right off the lobby). I would highly recommend a 90 minute deep tissue massage with Lucia. Yes, it was expensive compared to typical sports massage prices (even compared to Equinox in NYC) but it was well worth it to sink into vacation mode.

Hotel Dining:
We ate lunch at the beach bar twice--the fish taco's and spinach salad were perfect for us to share and the rum cocktails are great. We ordered room service for dinner and were pleasantly pleased with the food quality and the ease of staying in after a very early start for a morning flight. In the morning, we ordered breakfast burrito's at lobby coffee shop/breakfast bar. The choices were limited but it worked well for us. It would get expensive for families for a week long stay. I would recommend Cimboco for breakfast (which a block or so away) or a low key dinner. Coconut Joes is perfect for a cheaper lunch (fried food) and it's two blocks down from the hotel.

Restaurants:
I would recommend visiting Camana Bay during your trip--there are shops and restaurants, a local farmers market (Wednesday) as well as a high end, yet expensive, market. We had amazing meals at Michael's Genuine and Ortanique, and Abacus looked pretty nice but we did not eat there. We had an amazing dinner at Luca, located at the Carribbean Club. It's a bit of walk but very doable from The Marriott if you walk along the beach (which is safe at night).

Other notable, yet pricey, restaurants that people recommended or that I researched: Ostera Bay in West Bay, The Brasserie in Georgetown (staff at Ortanique recommended), Blue by Eric Ripert at The Ritz, Hemingway's at the Grand Cayman Beach Suites (beach view, we walked by several times but did not dine).

Some more affordable places include: Cimbuco, Coconut Joes, Agua, Ragazzi (Luca's sister restaurant that's good for families), Sunshine Grill, as well as The Royal Palms (lunch).

Cruise ships frequent the island during the week but aren't permitted on Saturday and Sundays so if you plan on doing an excursion check out the Grand Cayman Port Authority website to see how many ships will be in on any given day. http://www.caymanport.com/shipschedules.php (type in your trip dates). Red Sail Sports operates out of The Marriott so you can rent kayaks, paddle boards, jet skis, etc right from the hotel. If you've never visited Sting Ray City then plan to do so one day--it's so great being out on a boat!

There is a liquor store, Premier W&S, located three blocks north of the hotel in the Westshore Plaza as well a cigar store, Havana Club Cigars. There is also a Tortuga Rum & Liquor store next to Cimbuco. The Marriott has a mini fridge in the room so if you want to buy some yogurt or fruit for the room I would visit Foster's Market. There are two, both a short bus ride away for $2.50 US.

The Beach:
Yes, the beach has slight erosion but it's not too bad and the hotel is walking distance to many good restaurants and bars. Plus the man made reef is great for snorkeling and it's safe for kids with their parents. The Marriott has also done a good job by providing beach floats that are anchored in the water.

We had an amazing stay in Grand Cayman and I would definitely recommend staying at The Marriott! The hotel staff were helpful and friendly--they genuinely seem to enjoy ensuring guests have a great stay.

Room Tip: Upgrading to an oceanfront room is worth the price!

I have stayed in many a Marriott Hotel across the world and can honestly say that this has been the best experience thus far. My girlfriend and I had the pleasure of staying 2 weeks here. The Marriott sits on an amazing stretch of beach, with soft white lush sand - the stuff you could only dream of when thinking about the Caribbean. The hotel itself is perfectly located at the top of Seven Mile Beach, max 15/20 minutes walk into George Town. It's modern with a shaded lagoon if the sun gets too much for you. What made this visit extra special is the level of service which we received throughout our entire stay. I use TA extensively when I travel, esp. when I am not traveling for business but for pleasure/holidays and I felt compelled to write a review here. Thank you so much for making our stay such a wonderful experience.

Room Tip: Try and get a room with a seaview - each night we saw the most amazing sunsets

The Marriott on Seven Mile Beach is a very nice property. A little pricy, especially for meals and drinks. But for a better-quality full service hotel in this beautiful area, the props outweigh the cons. The beach area is very nice, although more crowded than on condo properties. Snorkeling is good enough, especially considering it's right out the back door. The staff was very accommodating, although they've obviously been instructed to try to recruit as many people as possible for the special meals, such as the Lobster Special being served the week we were there. I didn't even make it to the front desk to check-in before I was accosted. The very helpful man who checked me in seemed embarrassed. But hey, we had just arrived on Grand Cayman. Nothing could upset us!

This is our third stay at The Marriott Grand Cayman Beach Resort. It is family friendly, has consistently attentive service and the food is good. Staff work as a team, so everyone is happy to assist you with any need. Front desk is very willing to help with any plans or needs. Housekeeping is friendly, efficient, and does a great job of keeping rooms clean and fresh. As for the beach, getting an umbrella, chair, and food has never been an issue. Servers and staff are great! The chairs are ample, and as the sun gets high, the staff comes around with umbrellas and sets them in place for guests. Beach had less space then last two visits, but sand shifts as a result of storms and ocean movement. Always a wonderful time at this property.

Room Tip: All rooms are nice. If you can afford to pay for a beach facing room, it is a lovely view.
