“The Staff Make This Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2012

We have stayed here on two occasions. The hotel is a basic Mariott resort, with no special bells and whistles. Still it was a comfortable place to stay, but it was the staff who were impressive. I had my wallet stolen on the beach close to the hotel. The security manager went through hours and hours of hotel video tape to determine who took the wallet and made a phone call-It was returned with my $500 CI left in it. I was very impressed.

The only downside to the hotel is the beach and the restaurants. Our first trip we ate at the hotel but the breakfast and dinner were both overpriced and not very good quality. There is few places I would recommend within walking distance. Skip the hotel restaurants.

Finally, the beach is not the best on 7 mile. There is not much space and you have to get up at 5 am to get a chair on the beach. People put their towels on them and leave for the day. For that alone, we will probably go with a condo or rent a house next trip, but if you are going to go the hotel route, I would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Don't go with an ocean view. It will be extremely loud.

Dear Cliquot A,

We appreciate you posting your feedback about your stay with us. I am delighted that we were able to provide a comfortable place for your vacation and truly sorry for the unfortunate situation on the beach. Safety and security is one of our top priorities, and due to the current safety issues going on around the world, we ensure that our guests feel safe. I am happy that our Loss Prevention Agent was able to successfully handle the situation. We are aware that our guests are reserving the beach chairs and we have made minor changes to rectify this situation to prevent them from doing this. It was a pleasure serving you, and hope you welcome you back to our hotel.

Sincerely,

Vicki Nall

Stayed here for a long weekend. Property common areas were in very good condition and very attractive.

King garden view room. Clean and tropically decorated. Wi-Fi (extra cost if not a gold or higher card holder) worked well in the room.

Beach and beachfront bar/restaurant are very enjoyable! Pricey yes - but well worth the cost to sit and eat and drink with the Caribbean so close! Pool was beachfront also - did not use.

Breakfast in the restaurant was good and the personalized omelets were a nice touch! It also was expensive but the convenience was worth the price!

Very nice stay!

My husband and I stayed at the GCI Marriott during a company trip. Lovely place, nice and clean. The staff was most gracious and accomodating! Little gal from Bolivia who worked the front desk was very helpful in suggesting and setting up reservations at a local restuarant (sorry, don't recall her name but she was extremely helpful!) We found the food in the resturants to be very good. It was a very relaxing place and we certainly enjoyed our stay! Plenty of beach, and chairs for everyone. Would certainly stay there again. It's a jolly Monday because I returned from the Marriott Grand Cayman Beach Resort last night! The island itself is gorgeous and I couldn't have asked for more in a hotel. I stayed with a group of 12-mostly family (even grandma) and the hotel met all our our requirements and more. Each day we were greeted by smiling faces-I can't recall all thier names but a sweet Bulgarian girl and a girl from the coffee (free refills!) I think her name was Julie. The 7 mile beach was great and I loved the water sports/games the hotel had-the table like structure in the water where I enjoyed several pina coladas made nicely by Craig from Philadelphia and the giant bicycle in the ocean. Absolutely loved stingray city and swimming with the dolphins-very affordable too! Good happy hour deals/bonfire smore nights-creative couple and family fun. I work in a hotel and am very impressed by the service, staff, cleanliness, etc..Loved the house pets, the big birds that walked and swawked around the lobby, the complimentary punch and rum cake upon check-in...I highly reccomend this hotel!

We were there during a busy Easter break, so it was a bit more crowded than I expected, and we had some very slight maintenance issues as the rooms are just past prime. But the property overall is great, the staff was phenomenal, and the location is excellent. There were plenty of things to do right there, including snorkeling, waverunners, sailing and swimming, and there are also stores and restaurants within walking distance. George Town is a quick and fun 'bus' ride away, and there are many great restaurants within minutes. Great views of the cruise ships coming in, and various dive boats and parasailers running along Seven Mile Beach. Everyone in our family gave it two thumbs up.

Room Tip: Oceanview has great sunsets and views, but is right above the pool which can be noisy.

It was the staff at this hotel that made the vacation wonderful! Unfortunately we lost our bag at the airport, however, as soon as we got to the hotel, Ingrid got us started by getting us the essentials from the gift shop (a very thoughtful gesture on her part). It was this personalized level of service throughout the trip that made for an excellent experience. All the staff at the hotel was always there to help and please - Omar and Brandon at the front door always welcoming, Dexter at the pool/ beach always willing to help and Anna at the Sol Bar - great service with a smile, and Ingrid of course made sure that our stay was very comfortable. Davina at the concierge helped us plan our dolphin swim/ stingray city outing, again, very courteous, efficient and made some great suggestions based on what we wanted to do. There were many other helpful folks around the hotel whose names I cannot recall but definitely made our trip enjoyable.

Our room was facing the courtyard and was perfect. The room was always clean and there was a turndown service in the evenings. The service at the restaurants and bars was excellent and the food very good, There was nothing about the vacation that I can say could be better.

The hotel has a great location with a lot of good restaurants around that you can walk to.

Overall a great hotel for a family vacation where the staff is constantly looking to please you. I have read some of the negative reviews and not sure what those people are thinking (I guess some folks love to sweat the small stuff rather than look at the whole experience).

We definitely intend to come back to this hotel on our next trip (hopefully soon) and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone planning a trip to Grand Cayman.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the courtyard are definitely worth the extra.

Dear S M,

We appreciate you posting your feedback about your experience with us. I am truly happy that you described your vacation as being excellent ,as we do our best to ensure that our guests have a memorable stay. I am glad that you brought up the story about your lost bag. As a hotel, we understand how inconvenient it is to not receive your checked on luggage. For this reason we have a process in place to take care of our guests basic needs, calling the airline, and assist in any possible way we can to quickly locate your bag and resolve the issue. We are grateful for the kind comments about the staff and will be more than happy to welcome you back to our hotel.

My wife and I and our 3 boys ages 10, 13,& 15 spent spring break here in March. We're frequent Marriott guests with my wife spending over 120 nights a year in Marriott Properties. We've stayed in hotels from Hawaii to England and from Washington State to Mexico so we've seen a great many Marriott Hotels. The staff was nice and the rooms were nice, but not the most impressive we've experienced at Marriott Properties. As many have stated, the beach is not huge and the chairs are packed in like sardines in a can. You MUST get down very early to get a pair of chairs, but this has been the case at almost every place we have ever stayed regardless of ownership. We despise this habit of people camping out on the chairs, but really don't see any way to avoid it.

But the positive far outweighed any negatives related to beach size or chair scarcity. The smoothies were a big hit with the boys and my wife and I enjoyed many frozen mojitos during the week. We really enjoyed the snorkeling right off the beach around the reef balls that really attract the fish. But be careful of the sea urchins that like to hang out in the crevices!

All in all, we were really pleased with our stay here and will go back again.

Room Tip: Get a room overlooking the central courtyard for quiet evenings and mornings. The pool in the build...

Dear Kerry A,

I am truly happy to hear that you enjoyed snorkeling right off the property by our artificial Reef Balls. As a hotel, we take pride in ensuring that our guests have a memorable experience. By providing this convenient activity right off the hotel beach, along the white sand for our guests’ satisfaction was made possible by the Department of Environment, the Reef Ball Foundation and the Florida institute of Technology. The Reef Balls also halt beach erosion; stabilize shorelines and restores ailing coral reefs. We have been receiving positive comments about our new smoothie machine, as it operates at -2 degrees, reduces the ice crystals and allows the drink to stay frozen longer. We appreciate your comments and looking forward to serving you again.

Sincerely,

Ingrid Chaves
