For my family’s first time visit to Grand Cayman, we were debating whether to stay at a hotel/resort or to rent a condo. We finally opted for the condo mainly because it was much more economical. Looking back, this was an excellent decision for several reasons: price, privacy, and comfort.
We looked at several condos during our planning and we finally landed on the Beachcomber based on the superb reviews and the helpfulness of the staff. We found several units that we really liked and finally landed on Unit #19. What a superb condo unit it was!
Our unit was on the 4th floor towards the middle of the building. It was truly a spectacular unit. The housekeeper had already made sure that the unit was well air-conditioned for our arrival. We arrived earlier than that stated check-in time but in our final confirmation correspondences with the condo, we were advised that the unit would be ready early that day so we were free to check-in as soon as our flight arrived. Our unit was a 3 bed-room condo with unobstructed views of the beautiful Caribbean Sea. The décor was contemporary and gave the entire unit a very bright and clean ambiance. Rooms were large and bathrooms were spacious. Kitchen appliances were of good quality and everything about the condo was extremely well thought-out and made for a super-comfortable stay.
Soundproofing was generally good, although in the two bedrooms facing the street-side, you can hear the sound of the cars on the main road. Also, the garbage disposal truck tends to come at odd times in the night, and that truck can get very loud. Once we got used to the sound of the cars, though, it was not a problem at all.
The condo is very well-maintained. The underground parking for residents is excellent: wide parking spaces, well-lighted, and a great shelter from the strong Caribbean sun. The infinity pool and Jacuzzis in the garden were kept extremely clean and there is always someone making sure that everything is kept clean and tidy for the next guests. The beach was also excellent, with ample chairs residents and personnel raking the sand and cleaning up the beach each day. There is an fitness room in the condo but we never had a chance to use it.
The condo is located in a superb section of Seven Mile Beach, within easy walking distance to several hotels in the area. We walked to the Ritz-Carlton for afternoon tea and for Sunday Brunch during our stay. There is the Strand Shopping Centre across the street with a Foster’s supermarket. This was a well-stocked supermarket that was very conveniently located. We didn’t cook any full meals during our stay (too many good restaurants to try out) but we did go to Foster’s quite a few times to buy fruits, breakfast food, beverages, etc. The Strand also has a liquor store and a Kirk Freeport duty free shop along with numerous other boutiques. In addition to the hotels, there are quite a few restaurants within walking distance. For those who want to be close to the shopping in George Town, note that you will likely need to drive, take a taxi, or take a bus to town. It took us about 5 minutes to get to Camana Bay, about 10 minutes into George Town and 15 minutes to West Bay.
Housekeeping was super at the condo. The staff was very friendly and very accommodating of our schedules so as not to disturb us. They kept the condo immaculately clean during our stay (there is no housekeeping on Sunday). In addition, fresh beach towels were dropped off for us each day (they gave us double the amount on Saturday since there was no housekeeping on Sunday). Danielle at reception was also very helpful and extremely friendly. All the staff made our stay at the Beachcomber very pleasant and memorable.
There really wasn’t any negative that we could say about the Beachcomber. The comfort, the view, the amenities, location, and service all made this a wonderful choice of accommodations for us. On top of all that, staying at the Beachcomber cost us less than half of what we would have spent had we opted for the hotel that we were considering. This is definitely the place we’ll want to stay at the next time we return to Grand Cayman, and Unit #19 is going to be the unit of our choice.
