My wife and I went on the Stingray City dive and were horribly disappointed in the experience with Divers Down. First of all, they advertise, “a personalised service with a maximum of 8 divers”. The boat we were on had 13 and the over-crowding was the main contributing factor for the poor and unsafe dive.
There weren’t enough weights to go around and both my wife and I had to give up our proscribed weight for “other” divers. The result was neither my wife or I could maintain bottom depth (only 14 feet) and didn’t get to enjoy the dive and ended up hovering above while the other 11 divers enjoyed a really cool dive at the bottom. I came back to the surface in the middle of the dive to see if they had anything of weight to put in my BC and the answer was no.
I was more disappointed than pissed since I was looking forward to this dive the entire trip. I don’t think it was easy for the dive master either since he had NO WEIGHT and was heads-down vertical the entire dive. I caught the entire experience on my GoPro and the crew knew we got robbed of a nice diving experience but no one offered a refund or discount the $210 for the one-tank dive.
Finally, the crew insisted on setting up our BC and tank, and right before I jumped in I tested the air and it had not been turned on. The response from the crew was” oops and sorry”. My wife’s octopus was also leaking like crazy and she mentioned the air flow was really poor.
Obviously, the over-crowding distracted an otherwise pleasant crew and spoiled our dive. I would recommend checking the diver count before committing to diving with Divers Down.
