Days of visit: Jan. 23, 2005-Jan. 28, 2005. I stumbled upon the Sea Spray cottage after spending countless hours on the internet searching for accomodations on Grand Cayman, which are quite limited due to Hurricane Ivan. It was a wonderful, calming and relaxing experience! The cottage is actually a kind of carriage house located on a property that contains the larger house of the two owners, Bill and Anne. Their property is the last in a line of a number of ocean (but not beach) front properties, and the cottage is wonderfully private. The cottage was immaculate and the cleanest accomodation I've ever stayed in, owing mostly to a tiled, rather than carpeted, floor. With a large queen bed, kitchen stocked with dishes, cleaning supplies and small appliances like toaster, coffee maker and tea kettle, as well as a t.v. (although t.v. is out due to Ivan, the owners supplied the cottage with a VHS and dvd player and collection of movies for the week), office space and desk, sitting area, bathroom and washer and dryer, it was a welcome home away from home. Guests of the cottage also have access to the main house's patio (complete with 4 resort quality lounge chairs, and an infinity pool that looks as though it is spilling into the Caribbean Sea.) Because phone service to this portion of the island, Bodden Town, has not yet been restored, the owners provided us with a cell phone, charger and rechargeable phone time card. The setting is serene, and, dare I say, startlingly quiet - a welcome change from daily life. The owners were more than happy to snap pictures and offer restaurant recommendations as well (La Brasserie and Ragazzi, yum!). The Sea Spray is about 20 mins. from George Town and the hustle and bustle of the Seven Mile area - but is a nice relaxing drive into town, and these accomodations are far superior to anything on Seven Mile, especially in terms of price. The most advantageous thing about the cottage's location is its relative proximity (though still about 20 mins. away!) to Rum Point, a protected, idyllic turqoise lagoon on the north side of Grand Cayman more beautiful and conducive to swimming than Seven Mile). In short, book at the Sea Spray (through the Turtle Nest Inn website) for a clean, safe, relaxing and indulgent experience!
