“Excellent Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2013

We selected Cobalt Coast Dive Resort for a small group conference/dive vacation.

Without a doubt, one of the best experiences in customer service I have experienced in a resort. Arie and his staff pay unrelenting attention to detail and consistently exceeded our expecations. For example, at check-in, the owner, Arie, walked us to our rooms and made sure that everything was perfect. During the stay, they looked for opportunities to organize trips into town. He prepared a special Happy hour for the last day of the trip and prepared Lionfish Ceviche, Champagne, and other delicious Hors d'oeuvres. Finally, as we were departing, they arranged transportation, monitored and kept us informed of any flight delays.

They serve delicious meals with Carribean, Mexican, and Indian influences. Awesome fish tacos, wonderful fish and chips, and tasty curries can be found on the menu. In addition, they service high-quality coffee (Illy) and a large variety of cereals, eggs, jams, and juices for breakfast.

This is basically a small dive resort, so if you are expecting pristine sandy beaches, look at 7-mile beach as the shore here is rocky, but very close the prime dive spots.

Overall, an excellent resort experience!

Room Tip: The dive shop starts preparing tanks in the morning and that can be a little loud as they are loadin...

Dear guest, You stumped the jury! Thank you so much for sharing your experiences at our resort and I would like to share all of your accolades with the 20 person staff we employ. Together the staff makes the difference and I am just a proud owner, working with everyone. Some of the staff have been here since day 1. They know more than me and together we make an honest effort. The idea was to create an Island Treasure. We promise to keep on trying. Arie

Emphasis on "dive". If you're a diver, this place offers the perfect getaway. Rooms are clean and comfortable -- I wondered if the housekeeping staff had OCD -- the on-site dive shop is excellent, the staff makes an effort to remember your name, the food is good and the location is pretty much in the middle of all Grand Cayman dive sites so there are no unusually long boat rides. There's also a beautiful reef directly in front of the hotel for snorkeling and shore dives (but beware of the urchins when taking off your fins!).

Cobalt Coast is on the NW corner of the island in a quiet, residential area, and is about 20 minutes from Georgetown. This is great for divers since you're not dealing with all the cruise ship passengers and the tacky tourist attractions associated with them. However, this also means that you're more or less confined to the resort. For divers this is no problem, but if you're not a diver then you may go a bit stir crazy. There's no sandy beach, there are no restaurants nearby, there's no nightlife, and there's not much within walking distance.

The all-inclusive plan is definitely worth it! Since there are no other restaurants in the area, you don't feel like you're missing out by staying at the resort for all meals. It also includes alcoholic beverages, so you can have a pre-dinner drink and two glasses of wine with dinner without incurring any surprise charges at the end of the week.

Room Tip: Wi-fi is available in the bar and restaurant, but rooms 4 and 5 are close to the dining area and pic...

Dear guest, Reading your comments makes me want to pick up the phone and call for a reservation! Then I pinch myself and realize that I am already here, supported by a wonderful staff. Thanks for taking the time to share your comments with the world. By design we are located off the beaten track, away from the hustle and bustle of Seven Mile Beach. Happy you found us doing most of the things right. Arie

Been traveling around the Caribbean for many years and the resort host, Ariel, provided one of my best experiences. The dive shop is managed by another organization, Dive-Tech. I should say that I have been spoiled by other dive companies at other locations in the Caribbean and this was my first experience with anyone at Grand Cayman. The diving is pretty much do-it-yourself from setting up one’s gear, switching tanks with each dive, daily changing of weights to looking at the nuances on the reef. The dive masters basically stayed at either end of the party and floated along. However, since most of my trip was above water, that's where most of my appreciation goes. The food, atmosphere and hospitality were supreme. The host could not have been more accommodating to make this one of my more memorable Caribbean dive experiences. This is a very well run and friendly resort, and one of the best from my many dive experiences. The resort is located away from George Town, but this will not deter me from returning.

Dear Alan, Thank you so much for your kind comments about our staff and your experience at our resort. It is also important that the dive staff impresses you all of the time because the diving experience is important to all of us. I do like to think that our first priority is safety and support but I also think, I know what you mean about feeling being catered too and being shown different things along the wall. We'll promise to work on that. Thanks Alan for being up front with us. Arie

Actually, we went in April of 2011

You won't be near the main town, so if that's important, then you might want a different resort. But, if you're in Cayman to dive, then this is the place to be.

Awesome house reef and another house reef at Lighthouse Point (which they'll drive you to for free). Crystal clear water and great wall diving. Amazing dive shop (DiveTech) on site. Really well run operation.

Rooms are great. We went a little upscale and got the suite. It wasn't that much more money but it gave us a lot of space - a good thing if you do photography.

Food was good, enough variety. Good drinks. Excellent service.

The Hubby (Mr. Jeff) got an ear infection and the general manager set up a doctor appointment and transportation. It cut back on his diving, but he was able to lounge around the pool and take it easy.

Dear Mrs. Jeff, Just reading your report makes me want to stay here too. Thanks for being so kind and willing to share your experience. And what a house reef! Did you see some of the little stuff. Avid divers from Canada just published a book named "Cayman Nudibranchs" with many creators located and identified all within a few strokes from our dock, some as small as an eyelash. The book has been published by Everett Turner Books, Essi Evans and Cynthia Abgarian. Please keep us on your list and we are looking forward to being your host again. Arie

Dear Mark, Thanks for your great comments about our dive staff. By the way, all of our staff are at the instructor level and teach from Free Diving to Technical Diving and many courses in between and they hail from many different countries. Remember it is only 5 feet of water at the end of the dock, an easy entry and a 5 minute swim to the mini wall. If I only had more time, I would be there myself right now. Arie

We booked a last minute diving vacation after taking the PADI scuba diving course and chose the Cayman Islands and Cobalt Coast mainly because it was recommened by our diving instructor.
The hotel was clean and quiet with good food and attentive, friendly staff. It is located in a residential area on Grand Cayman, away from the touristy area of 7 Mile Beach, but an easy and quick bus ride away.
It is a perfect hotel for divers and was full of them. The dive shop (Dive Tech) is right on site where we had prearranged our certification dives and daily 2-tank boat dives for the week.
Our instructor, Paul Kirby, was excellent! He was very professional, patient, safety conscious and a lot of fun. All the staff at Dive Tech were great and very helpful to 2 newby divers from Canada.
If you are looking for a diving vacation on Grand Cayman this is definitely the place to stay.
We did the full meal plan and it worked out great, although if you were to stay much longer than a week it might get a bit repetative. Best food - Fish tacos for lunch!
