I had read so much about Grand Cayman and it was a destination I just knew we had to visit.
After reading many reviews and checking prices we decided on Spanish Bay.........also some friends of ours have stayed there and loved it.
It was probably only 50% capacity when we were there in May and it was wonderful. We were upgraded to one of the rooms that was beachfront because we were celebrating our anniversary and my birthday.
I certainly cannot complain about the food. It was very good for a buffet style, although we did end up eating indoors several evenings due to rain. (I don't think I'd travel to Cayman in May again) Each night they had a different theme and Thursday was our favorite..........turkey. It was delicious.
The snorkeling at the resort was very good and we saw a large variety of fish, including some spotted rays and also barracuda.....the barracuda were a little intimidating to me but never bothered us. We also visited other snorkeling spots and did the stingray sandbar trip. It was neat and I'm glad we did it.
There were days I missed the nice beach.........most of the area here was rocky so it was difficult to swim in the water, unless you were snorkeling. Therefore I spent a lot of time in the pool which was hardly occupied most days unless cruise ship people were there. I don't know if I'll book another resort where cruisers visit...........some were rude and left dirty drink glasses at the pool and took their drinks in the pool, which they weren't supposed to do.
The staff was so pleasant and friendly.......knowing they would be losing their jobs in July did not affect how they preformed and treated the guests.
We met a lot of people and had a great time.
Our room was nice and very clean and we loved sitting out on our little porch in the morning looking out at the sea.
I know I mentioned I would probably not book another resort where cruisers visit, but I would definitely book again at Spanish Bay if it had remained open.
For those of you who plan to visit Grand Cayman, rent a car for a few days and cruise the island. There is a lot to see and we did love it there.
