“Excellent Value on a nice beachfront condo”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

This quaint, clean beachfront condo on Grand Cayman rests far enough away from the busy port locations, but close enough to every possible destination you might want to see. We took our trip in late April, staying in condo #2 for five days. There was just my wife and me, but the condo has two bedrooms upstairs, and a pullout sofa downstairs. So it can easily sleep six. We had a great view of the beach and ocean from our upstairs balcony, and a pool just outside our living room door. The beach was right off the patio, and had exceptional snorkeling within a protected reef. Donna and Duane at the desk were always very helpful and made our stay all that more pleasant. This was our first visit to Grand Cayman, and if we return this will be our home away from home again.

We stayed in a beachfront condo for 11 days and really liked Turte Nest Inn. Compared to the mass-tourism of 7-miles-beach, we liked to peaceful location and the trully amazing condo with sufficient space and excellent bed- and bath rooms. Kitchen, washer and dryer, all was available and all was well-stocked including sufficient towels, washing powder for the washer, etc. Staff is very helpful and friendly. There is a sea kayak available for use at no cost. Beds are of good quality, there were three tv's and airconditioning worked very well. The sea view from our master bedroom with small balcony was magnificent and we still miss the continuous sound of the sea at night.

Snorkeling indeed is very nice at this location though the nicest areas are quite shallow with waves / currents making it not the easiest snorkel trip. But you do see a lot of fish, including an occasional ray and an impressive barracuda. We had our car upgraded to a Jeep which you do not actually need on the island but still it was a nice ride. We visited many of the island’s sights and really liked the botanical gardens (absolutely worth the visit). Stingray City is impressive although it does not feel like the most natural way of encountering animals with loads of boats and squid. But still, something you want to experience. Turtle farm was ok, although I would recommend the “dry tour” as the snorkeling / swimming is not anything special. Furthermore we really liked eating at the Lighthouse restaurant and our visits to Rum Point and Kaibo (45 minute drive but nice to visit!). Together with my son we went diving for a couple of times with DNS, a great dive operator.

Any downsides? Hardly, I must say. Obviously the beach at 7-miles is nicer for kids to play and swim - the beach at the resort is quite narrow and you need shoes to enter the water. But by car 7-miles-beach was an easy 25 minutes drive (most of the time we went to government house beach, next to the Westin with was quiet with free and always available parking directly at the beach).
Also, during our stay, the wind was causing the sea at this side of the island to be a little rough - not an issue thanks to the protecting reef but not easy for a kayak trip. Also we had some ear issues after swimming in the pool (my daugther had a nasty outer ear infection) - not unusual for a pool, but you may want to bring or buy ear plugs to avoid this. Medical care was excellent after being referred by TNI staff to visit a closeby doctor and pharmacy.

Room Tip: Beachfront is great! The view is excellent - the space between sliding windows and pool is limited b...

My wife and I spent our honeymoon at Turtle Nest Inn over the 3rd week of November in 2011. This review is long over due, but fitting due to the timing. We're headed back this November, and will be staying in one of the beachfront condos, just like we did last time.

What isn't there to say about TNI, this place is great. Having explored the island a lot last time (rental car is awesome and mandatory), I believe this is likely the best place to stay if you're looking for something different than the 7-Mile scene. I just can't imagine it gets more authentic and real than this while still being clean, comfortable, and peaceful.

Donna, and the staff are all very accommodating, caring, and very nice. The condo we stayed in (far left side beachfront if you're looking out) was exceptionally well kept, and the views were unreal. I have no complaints whatsoever. This is exactly the type and style of place we were after. What a great way to experience the country/island, free from any "tourists", cruise-vacationers, and hoards of people.

Room Tip: Pay extra for the beach front, well worth it.

One of the best places and best values in Grand Cayman. On the quiet side of the island in Bodden Town away from the hustle & bustle of Seven Mile Beach, Turtle Nest Inn has a lot to offer; great views, well kept and clean rooms, wonderful and helpful staff, great snorkeling and quiet relaxation. We have been to Cayman 5 times before and wish we had found this place sooner. Centrally located on the island....about 15 minutes from 7 Mile Beach and about the same amount of time to Rum Point. Slow down, smell the fresh ocean air and enjoy your vacation! Great ocean side pool, lots of beach chairs for relaxing, outside shower to rinse off after a dip in the surf plus awesome sunrises. We'll be back for sure!

We stayed in Condo #3 and it was perfect. The snorkeling out front and on this island is the best I've seen. We went out everyday and saw something new, everyday. Even though the week we stayed was on and off rainy, we still had a blast. So even the rain can't let you down at this place. We didn't have lightning storms, just pour downs, so we stayed out in the water and it was still crystal clear. The barracuda, we learned, likes to follow you. The last day there he followed us around and finally we freaked out and came in. When we did research, it seems they just like to follow sometimes, but don't hurt you. Just hide your underwater camera in your armpit and don't wear anything shiny. This place gives you a rental car with the room so we could go out and get groceries, and explore the island. We found a place called Spotts Beach where we swam with at least 6 sea turtles, went in town and took the Stingray City tour (amazing!), and drove up to Rum Point one night and had a few drinks and watched the Sunset. At the condo the kitchen was fully stocked with everything you need to cook and having a washer and dryer was great. I recommend this place for friends, couples or families with older children that like to snorkel, and relax and stay off the main, busy beach. Families that have small kids, I'd stay on the main beach. We had a family with young kids while we were there and the kids kept yelling they were bored and the ocean there is too rocky for kids to play in so all they have is the pool, which I heard one kid yell "I PEE'D, I PEE'D" while in the pool one day. Gross. So the parents, who looked worn out, were driving somewhere every day to keep the kids happy.

The only negatives I have are the mattresses are hard and you have no trash pick up or cleaning, which isn't that big of a deal except we didn't know what to do with the trash and it sat outside the front door all week getting nasty..we needed to ask about that, but never got around to it. Oh and driving was easier than in the states! Just may turn on the windshield wipers instead of the turn signal and vice versa a time or 10. ;)

The staff, the location, and almost everything about this place was wonderful and we can't wait to come back possibly next spring with my boyfriend and my friends husband.

Room Tip: Loved the condo, but didn't see the hotel rooms, so I can't really compare. Condo #3 had a n...

Thanks very much for your great review! It was a pleasure having you as guests, and we do look forward to welcoming you back. But, we sincerely regret that you didn't check with us about trash disposal, or read the "Guest Information" binder in your condo. Although daily housekeeping (including trash removal) is provided in all our one-bedroom apartments, condo guests are more "on their own", with their own dishwasher, washer, dryer, iron, etc., along with a full second set of linen and towels. And there's a trash enclosure at the corner of the condo parking lot for guests to place their trashbags in. Guests who may be too busy to check with our staff at the Inn office, are well advised to consult the "Guest Information" binder, which includes a wealth of useful information, suggestions, and the answer to virtually every question you might have.

We had never been to Grand Cayman, so we were unsure where to stay. Thanks to all the reviews from Trip Advisor...we chose the Turtle Nest Inn. It could not have been more PERFECT!! We knew we did not want a big touristy hotel where you had to ride an elevator down 10 floors in your bathing suit to fight for a spot on the beach. We could that in Miami. We wanted something quiet, low-key, and ON THE BEACH. Turtle Nest Inn saves the day! Snorkeling was fantastic (they give you all the gear...and a kayak), plus, with the car they give you, you are close enough to GeorgeTown AND Rum Point...if you want more action. Best Vacation ever thanks to this place!!!!!!!

Room Tip: we stayed in the prime beachfront apartment and could open our balcony door and be right on the beac...

We just returned from a 7 night stay at Turtle Nest Inn celebrating my parent's 40th wedding anniversary. We comfortable fit 6 people in Condo # 1. We stayed in Condo # 2 last time. The condos which face the Caribbean Sea are the best (and most expensive), but worth it. They have two floors with an adequately working washer and dryer. There is a cooler inside with plenty of dishes and a dishwasher (with soap) that works great. There are plenty of plates and dishes and silverware. They supply the shampoo and soap and large bath towels and hand towels and wash clothes. You are right on the beach with great snorkeling. The beach is cleaned every day with a rake since there is aquatic vegetation (sea grass) that floats up each evening. Don't forget that they have a grill and we grilled about 3 out of 7 nights. We got our food at Foster (IGA) grocery store, which is the many store to get groceries and toiletries on the island. Fosters is next to the airport as well as 5 minutes from Turtle Nest Inn. It is ~ 20-30 minutes from the airport, which is very close to Georgetown (capital) and 7 mile beach and is ~ 20-30 minutes from Rum Point the other direction. Both are worth at least one day. We went to Rum Point one day and 7 mile beach / George town 4 days and snorkeled 3 or 4 times right off the beach of Turtle Nest Inn. When snorkeling at TNI, I saw some barracudas, a lobster, squid, a stingray, and other colorful fish. They have a full size refrigerator/freezer with a stove and a microwave and a few pieces of tupperware. There is a blender and multiple skillets and pans for cooking. The outlets are more than adequate in number and are the two pronged US style. If the price is 10 Cayman dollars then it is ~ 13 USD, roughly. Going out to eat is expensive. That is one reason why we ate at the fully furnished kitchen. We went out to eat as a group at the Westin on 7 mile beach. Had dinner for 6 for 120 USD. Not too bad and we were all happy. It was actually on the beach and watched the sun set. It set around 6:30 and dinner opened at 5:30 pm. There are mosquitoes at night. TNI is VERY clean, right next to the beach and make sure you include the car. You drive on the left side of the road. It does not take long to get the hang of it. It is needed and worth it. I am pretty familiar with the area, restaurants, TNI, and 7 mile beach. Don't hesitate to ask me questions.

Overall, it was a great time. The staff thought of everything. Rent the Firm (John Grisham) before you go or when you are there. The front desk have movies to rent. Finally, the water is SAFE to drink. This is very rare for the Caribbean.

Have a great time!

Room Tip: The beach front condos. If too expensive for your budget, wait, save, and then stay in the beach fr...
