Continuing on (from my Virgin Gorda review)...after 9 days in Virgin Gorda, my friend Kelly & I left on Smith's ferry over to Anegada. When we arrived, we were met by Hennie & Dean Wheatley of D.W. Jeep Rentals who are just the nicest people you could hope to meet (their prices were reasonable too). We got our jeep & drove straight to our room at The Sands Hotel on Keel Point. I liked that our hotel was right smack in between Cow Wreck & Loblolly, the best beaches on the island. Our room was large and the A/C ran cold. We had a mini fridge for our drinks/snacks and a coffeemaker too. We explored the entire island. We went to the headstart facility to see the endangered rock iguanas. We found the best snorkeling to be at Flash of Beauty. We saw the salt ponds and thanks to Ras Biga's son, we even got to see the flamingos (from a distance). The flamingos go inland to breed at this time of year and we would've never found them on our own. We ate most of our breakfasts & dinners at The Anegada Reef Hotel which along with delicious food, had a nice gift shop. The shrimp dinner was awesome and we went back a few nights in a row to have it again & again. Another great restaurant/bar was Potter's by the Sea. Potter is a cool guy and told us to help ourselves behind the bar. It was fun playing bartender! Potter also supplied us with magic markers because travellers write on the bar & walls of the restaurant. We drew, then photographed our "artwork". Cow Wreck Beach was unbelievable! As soon as we got there, I threw myself in the sand and rolled around flouring myself in it like a little kid. It's that white dusty sand that I love. Our number one favorite thing to do however was to spend time at Loblolly Beach with Ras Biga & his wife, Diane. Ras hangs out playing his guitar, making up little ditties about this and that. He's full of stories and seems to know alot about life in general. We loved him, he was too cool! No matter what our plans were when we woke up, at some point, we ended up back at Loblolly by the end of the day. AND...I met a fellow tripadvisor member that lived nearby named AnegadaGeorge and his dog, Sophie! We also met a local guy, Andy who helped us out more than once with finding the post office, finding our way back to the hotel. In fact, it seemed everytime we got the slightest bit off track, Andy's truck would come rolling along. (The guy must have thought we were such dingbats, its not like theres so many roads to get lost on!) Everyone was extremely friendly. People take the time to stop and chat for awhile or wave hello when you drive past. It's amazing how peaceful it is. The gas station was a funny story. We kept driving past it thinking, nope thats not it. There's only one gas station so I couldn't figure out how we kept missing it! Driving, we saw an old 70's style pump but nobody seemed to be working there. It didn't really look like a gas station. Soon after we pulled up to it however, some guy from further down the road yelled, "Hey, you girls need gas?" YES, yes we do! The island seemed to move 10 times slower than other islands (and about 100 times slower than New Haven). What a beautiful place! I sincerely hope that it stays exactly the way it is: undeveloped, unspoiled & gorgeous. Once again, we hated to leave, but it was time to go to Tortola.
