“Sailing in the BVI, mooring at BEYC”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2014

Lovely, helpful and peaceful stay on a mooring off of BEYC. All the amenities of the facility available for nominal charge. The very friendly and helpful service delights. Very much enjoyed it. Will be back soon and take advantage of more fun stuff.

I am fortunate enough to travel all over the world.I haven't stayed in a hotel that you don't get a room. You can only lock your room when you are in it.The ceiling fan didn't work and one light didn't work. The glass door Looking to the water was filthy. However the staff and food was outstanding. The room was my major complaint. I understand some rooms have been renovated but mine was a 1964 model.

Our family of 5 (kids ages 8,10 and 12) had a terrific visit. Our girls quickly made a new group of friends and enjoyed going to the nightly movies at the outdoor theater. They also enjoyed participating in the Hobby Cat regatta with their dad.

The Manager and all of the staff are excellent too!

The Bitter End yacht club has it all. For the active family members the water sport's activities are phenomenal. Sailing, diving, kiteboarding, windsurfing, stand up paddle boarding, snorkeling, exploring etc. The staff are extremely professional, courteous and helpful. You won't go wrong with a holiday at BEYC

I have been going to the Bitter End Yacht club since 1995. I have been there with friends, family, my wife and without exception, we had a wonderful time. This is a place where you need to understand what you are looking for and what you are getting for your vacation time and money and it happens to fit in the active, sailing, "controlled" adventuring that my family loves.

We have used Kilbrides, sailed on about every vessel they have, used the Boston Whalers to their fullest extent, the day trips to the various sites and have done the Bradley 22's which i would HIGHLY recommend to anyone that is knowledgable and comfortable at sea. (we have owned sailboats and powerboats most of my life from small Hobies to 40'+ Beneteau's)

The food is good and with the admirals package, it makes it easy, but it can get a bit standard over 8-9 days, but again, good is awesome here as the location is incredible and that is the main point of the trip.

Getting here (I have travelled to BEYC from Atlanta, Los Angeles and Minneapolis), can be a bit of a long day. It makes the arrival all the more special. We have gone the travel all day route and we have gone the travel the day before route and it is really a preference. Travelling the day before with a family can add a bit of cost (we stayed in Road Town) with the 2 way taxi, the room (we stayed at Maria's by the sea) and meals, it adds quite a bit of cost... but also adds to the trip in my opinion.

As for the stuff to do... having gone from single 20 yr old to having two early teen daughters through my various trips, I have NEVER found a moment where we are looking or wondering what to do next. Early morning hikes up and over the hilltop make for a great pre-breakfast jumpstart to the day. Sometimes and early morning swim works as a good kickoff. My daughters still love the baths and I can't complain about that trip ever. I am looking forward to the new trip over to Jost VD as I haven't brought our girls there yet. (but always made it a destination on the Bradley's when we got them!)

Kilbrides is likely one of the better Dive operators that I have been with in the Caribbean. Beyond friendly and safe to the appropriate extent! I've been to the Chicuzen (sp?), Rhone, Needles and other sites and all have been great! (we typically bring our own equipment, so I can't comment on that, but things look to be very well cared for and maintained!)

Rooms... if you have the right expectations, you will love this place! It isn't a hermetically sealed Ritz/Hyatt type resort. But the rooms are amazing! Lately, we have been staying in the beach front cottages as we don't see enough difference with the premium room (AC). We do have a little trick where we spray the screens with bug spray to keep the mosquitoes out of the room... seems to help quite a bit!

So... rambling yes, but a HUGE fan compared to almost any other location that we have been as a family, couple or other! :)

Room Tip: 9N if you are looking for Premium Beach front... we had 11 of us on our last trip and we stayed in 2...

We sailed our catamaran into the harbor, anchored for the night, and swam to the restaurant for drinks and dinner. A welcoming, comfortable place with amazing food for the world's end, and warm staff. Great snorkeling and windsurfing here too. Ahhh.....

The Bitter End used to be pretty much the only game in North Sound on Virgin Gorda. Since the late 1980's, Leverick bay has built some fine establishments and Saba Rock has been transformed from a dive shop on a rock to a hotel and eatery. These developments sapped away much of the business from the pricey Bitter End, which in response to diminished business, made the terrible mistake of cutting back. The days of when their salad, breads and dessert tables virtually groaned from the weight of their selections are long gone. Their food and service once the exemplar of greatness has now become mediocre but still very pricey. Their site does offer great views of the sound in a very clubby environment but they have clearly lost their mojo.
