"The Old Mine" (or Wanha Kaivoskyla if you're fluent in Finnish) is a unique property (of a hostel quality), located in nearly uninhabited woods surrounding Rovaniemi. The Santa Claus town itself is approx. 70 kms away.
Bedrooms are quite clean, and extremely basic - do not forget that you'll be staying in the middle of nowhere. You'll get a bed, linen and access to bathrooms (one of the buildings actually serves as washing/sauna facilities). Sauna facilities, as usual in Finland, are brilliant.
There's also a restaurant - called if I recall "The Miner's Inn" serving usual reindeer fare, and booze (suprisingly cheap as for how far it is from any civilization). Quite decent food, and definitely has got the right ambience.
Brilliant place for those who love wilderness! If you want to go missing for a couple of weeks - perfect choice. But be prepared - it ain't a bed of roses, it's definitely got that Sisu spirit to it!
