“Incredible way to end the day!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2013

My friends and I have been to CocoMaya a few times for dinner and we love sharing the tapas style food - we get fresh sushi or some of their tasty starters. If you love fresh fish order the Rainbow Sushi Roll - it just melts in your mouth. And when we really want to share something big we order the Pad Thai which never disappoints.
But... if you ask me my favourite time to go is happy hour - just before dinner but right after a long day at work. The sun is setting, the beach looks welcoming and their cocktails are always interesting. We had a coconut mojito which was incredible but their regular raspberry chili cocktail is the way to get the night started.
You won't be disappointed if you go here during your time on island - you might even find you want to go back more than once.

“Nicely designed, good (but little) food, not the island's best”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2013

We enjoyed visiting "the new place on Virgin Gorda". They did a good job of designing a restaurant/bar that sits on a beach, and overall, it has an upscale, interesting ambience with friendly staff and tasty food. There are two problems with it. One is that as mentioned by others, you need to order several items in order not to leave hungry, and that will set you back a fair bit. The second is that they boast by way of every conceivable form of advertising they are the island's best restaurant. That is quite an insult to those places that have been in business a long time here, serving up sophisticated, interesting food and weathering the high/low seasons year after year. Georgio's & Chez Bamboo should share that honor. Next comes Rosewood's Little Dix restaurants which are quite good but priced too high, overall. We also enjoy the Rock Cafe which is a wonderful timeless experience complete with good food, music and a bar scene that attracts many. Haven't visited the Mine Shaft yet this year but am guessing it also continues to earn a high standing. In our 30 years of visits, we have seen the way this special island has "developed" and have noticed there is a collective spirit that speaks to support rather than competitiveness. Coco Maya will have to earn a standing just like everybody else. Which is not to say it isn't worth a visit. Go for a drink & nibbles at sunset before heading to Chez Bamboo or Georgio's for dinner.

Good day and thank you for your response and for visiting us at CocoMaya.

It appears you may not have been informed correctly of the style of menu and that we are a heavily tapas and sushi based restaurant and I apologize for this. We spend a lot of time training staff to explain how we offer our food. It is important to us that people are aware of how we present our food prior to committing to dining and we somehow seem to have fallen short with yourself.
We like the idea of small bites to be shared with your chosen friends/family etc. We believe it creates food conversation and allows you to sample multiple dishes in one evening. This may not suit everyone but for the most part we are keeping people happy and plan to keep the style of the food and the way it is presented in a similar way in the future.
You would have seen we also have a small selection of mains - which are heartier dishes. These are on the menu to appeal to those that prefer not to partake in tapas style dining.
Our mains do not price higher than $38 and our starters/tapas are not above $17. A maximum price if you were to purchase one of each would be $55 (which is in my mind a sizable portion of dinner) and I would argue that our pricing falls around - if not under most of the fantastic restaurants you make mention of.

Your second note is incorrect and I want to say that we do not state we are the best - nor is it in our nature to....
We are currently voted as #1 on Trip Advisor in Virgin Gorda and we are proud and humbled by this. We, alongside most restaurants use Trip Advisor as a marketing medium.
We as owners have lived on Virgin Gorda for many years and have dined at and enjoyed most of the establishments and what they offer and we consider ourselves friends with a lot of the proprietors and staff of these restaurants and hotels. We also believe in fair competition and regularly advise clients of various promos and events held at neighboring bars and restaurants
We are fully aware that it is a small island and we need to work together and if we can all achieve that - everyone wins, especially all of our valued clientele and visitors to Virgin Gorda.

We do hope you return to CocoMaya in the future. Next time you will see a new menu in place plus some changes to our restaurant in our efforts to keep things exciting.

I hope you make yourself known to us if you wish to discuss further. We are always welcoming constructive advise and comments.

Kind regards
Aaron Seddon. Managing Director

“Excellent tapas in a fun atmosphere with gorgeous views”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2013

My husband and I really enjoyed dinner here. We went in time to watch the sunset. We ordered a number of tapas including edamame, chicken satay, ahi tuna, and fish-of-the-day tacos (mahi mahi). Everything was delicious. This place has a really cool vibe. It sits on a private patch of beach with a firepit and sofas in the sand. We sat at a regular table but every place has a great view. There was music playing and you could tell this is a place where people like to come and hang out. After dinner we moved over to one of the empty beach sofas and my husband enjoyed a peach hookah. It was a great evening and we'd go back here in a heart beat. If you're in Virgin Gorda, don't miss CocoMaya! If this review was helpful, please give it a positive vote.

“Beautiful view and amazing food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2013

We were at Little Dix Bay for our honeymoon and overheard another guest say they loved Coco Maya and had already eaten there twice! So... we tried it for ourselves and were very happy with our choice. Starting out with their take on ceviche was the right choice. WOW. I had the snapper and it was much better than we had at any other restaurant in the BVI or USVI. I would go for it. Fun swings at the bar, we didn't try it but looks like there was plenty of stuff to keep kids occupied too. Great service from our waitress as well!!

Liked the place and set up. Food was too spicy for my taste. Excelent concept and the drinks were great.
