“Beautiful location, slightly tired hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2012

Lovely tucked-away location in a bay at Northern end of Virgin Gorda, with great views over the water. Brightly painted from the outside, it feels a little bit "cheap and cheerful". Rooms are large and clean, but slightly tired (toilet roll is stuffing up the hole in our mosquito netting in the bathroom), the toilet blocks easily and there's not much hot water. Bar area gets lively with a well frequented happy hour hosted by a pirate singer most nights. Surprisingly, there's an excellent restaurant (upstairs) with delicious seafood and good wine list.

We visited Leverick last month and want to pass on a huge thank you for the great service at the Friday night Jumbie's buffet. We have some dietary issues in the family and Leverick was fantastic at addressing them. They provided a separately prepared main course to our table for my daughter and me, as well as a walk through the buffet by the head chef. Much appreciated!!!! We felt welcomed and well looked after. And the Jumbies were thoroughly entertaining - we'll be back.

We were on a bareboat and stayed overnight on a mooring ball. Leverick was in our plans from the start based on a positive experience in 2010, and to enjoy the Friday night buffet and the Jumbies.

Thanks Bubbles!

Basically everything you read here about Leverick is pretty much accurate, the good and the bad. I had a difficult time trying to think of how to best describe it in a way that would be helpful to other travelers. Our stay was a unique situation - we were visiting family members who own a sailboat that was anchored at Leverick for the duration of our stay (10 days). We spent the majority of our time on the sailboat, including for most meals and day trips so things about the hotel that I might normally find bothersome weren't of consequence to me as we basically used it for a place to sleep and shower.

In that regard, the hotel was fine. Although run down, the rooms are kept clean - and that is most important in my books.

I got the distinct impression that the resort caters mostly to the boating crowd. Most of the sailboats in the marina are charters so people are constantly moving in and out daily. They also receive some visitors from what I am guessing are cruise ship day trips - but not too many as the ships would be coming in on the other side of the island which is a 20 minute cab ride away.

For the boaters I think Leverick does a very good job. The bar serves good drinks, and the restaurants serve good food. (I had a delicious blue cheese hamburger my first day there!) There is fun entertainment (Michael Beans puts on a great show a few days a week and they bring in the "Jumbies" one day a week.) The Micheal Beans show is over by 7 pm so this is not disruptive to people staying at the hotel. The Jumbies party goes a bit later but really - people are on vacation, you can't expect it to be quiet 7 days a week. (We had small children and the only thing we found disruptive was another hotel guest who at 2 am one night decided to hoot and holler at the top of her lungs for over an hour... nothing to do with hotel activities). There is also a decent little food market/liquor store on site as well as a dive shop, Pussers, and a small shop that sells trinkets. Laundry is $6 a load and there is also a small spa that offers a variety of services. The pool and beach are small but not busy so the kids enjoyed themselves there quite a bit.

I decided that Leverick Bay Resort puts on a good "front". From the boaters perspective all looks great. When you look ‘behind the curtains’ at the actual hotel there are many things that could be done to encourage a more comfortable (and return) stay.

The rooms are very tired as some describe, a coat of paint and some minor repairs & upgrades would go a LONG way here. For example, our air conditioner started spewing water in the middle of the night on our 7 year old daughter... we promptly moved her and put towels down to catch the water (I will note however that the hotel was quick to have this fixed the next morning).

I think also that for people staying at the hotel a breakfast buffet would be helpful (included in the cost of your room would be even better as eating at Leverick Bay 3 meals a day would be very expensive!) There are no options for breakfast other than to buy cereal and milk or a bakery item at the grocery store. We were lucky to not have much issue with this as we would give the kids something small to eat first thing in the morning and then would move on board the sail boat for a more substantial breakfast (thanks to our wonderful hosts!)

The hotel staff is helpful and accommodating if you treat them with respect (I think this is fairly standard for most places one might travel).

As for the area itself, I don't think you could describe Virgin Gorda or the BVIs as anything less than beautiful and amazing. For those staying at the hotel, there is a free ferry ride over to Saba Rock for happy hour, you just have to call to arrange for the ferry to get you. Get there for 5 pm to watch them feed the "big fish", the food is good and the view is breathtaking, especially at sunset. A trip over to Biras Creek is worth it also. There are some nice little trails around that particular resort and a wonderful bakery items within the grocery store there. If you have a way to do some snorkelling there are some beautiful areas to see right near Leverick Bay also. Unfortunately we didn’t get a chance to get over to the Baths but I hear that is worth the trip also.

To sum it up I think I would say that Leverick Bay Resort is a good place to stay for a short stay (two to three days) if you are moving about from place to place, but not ideal for a longer stay (dining at the same restaurant 3 times a day would get tiring and expensive & mobility options are limited unless you rent a car or have a boat).

Room Tip: Lots of steep rock stairs lead to all of the rooms - we didn't have an issue with this but somet...

We stayed here our first night on Virgin Gorda. Knowing we'd arrive late, we figured we'd crash somewhere that was lower cost before continuing on the next day to Nail Bay, where we were scheduled to stay for the duration of our trip. I was very happy we were staying at Nail Bay and not here!

It was ok for one night and at that price point, but I would have been disappointed if we were staying there for our whole trip. The room had a great view, but it had seen better days. The bathroom in particular seemed pretty dingy and old to me. There was no screen for the sliding glass door, so you couldn't leave it open. The air conditioner was so loud that we couldn't run it. The ceiling fan didn't appear to work. The room itself was very sparse and not particularly welcoming. Speaking of welcoming...

We had noted to the resort that we would be arriving late and they said they'd have someone there to check us into the room. Well, we showed up and the office was of course closed with no one to be found. My husband asked at the restaurant and they called someone who came down and was very friendly, but we were exhausted and this just added to my crankiness.

On the flip side, we had a great fish sandwich at Jumbies Beach Bar. Fortunately, we were there I think on the one night that there was no live music. I could see how it could be really noisy on those nights.

This is a great value place if you want no frills.

We docked our yacht at the marina for one night as part of our three day stay at Virgin Gorda. The day was hot and muggy so we headed to the bar and swimming pool. Leverick Bay Resort is charming with a variety of shopping, provisioning and restaurants. We relaxed by the pool and enjoyed the fabulous view. They have a Pusser's Rum store with a nice choice of merchandise, including jewelry and decor items. We'll definitely put this marina on our list for our next BVI tour!

Stayed at the Marina for a night during a 8 day charter. The Marina was nice and clean. Free water, which is hard to find in the BVI and the marina fees were low. The only complaint that night was the noise from the bar. There was a wedding on shore and the bar and restaurant was rocking all night with a less than stellar band. The bathrooms were very dirty and in the morning, all toilets backed up. Better to shower on the docks in the old phone booth! I would still recommend but they really need to ensure they keep their grounds clean!

Read mixed reviews on site so was not sure what to expect. Letica on reservations and front desk could not have been more helpful. Rooms were showing their age, but fine for the price. If you want 5 star plushness then stay elsewhere. Food at the bar / club was very good. Michael Bean's show made our stay - we all loved it. We had a hire car, so we could explore, which I think is essential. Speedy's rental were very good - their customer service exceeded my expectations.

Room Tip: All rooms have sea views.
