Little Dix Bay is a gem of a find in the BVI's. So many of the islands have become commericalized while this resort and Island has remained a quiet, peaceful place to get away from the everyday fast paced life most of us lead.

The service from the time the ferry picks you up till you leave was first class. The food was outstanding. The healthclub is very nicely appointed.

We enjoyed meeting one of the managing directors, Mark Sterner while visiting the resort making our stay seem even more
personal.

While this was my first visit, I met several couples that have been returning for 20-30 years. I will be back too!

Virgin Gorda - Little Dix Bay I would recommend this resort to anyone looking for a quiet warm sunny getaway especially in the middle of winter. I was there with my mom and 2 sisters to celebrate a special birthday for 5 glorious days in early January 2008. The views were simply breathtaking, with a spectacular beach which makes for total relaxation even if you do not have one of their wonderful spa treatments. The food was excellent! They have a great gym for working out which was extremely clean. The grounds surrounding the resort were well maintained. I stayed in a an Ocean Front Cottage - just fabulous. Mark Sterner the resort manager is a vibrant/friendly person who truly cares about his guests vacation experience. Over the years I have traveled to many other destinations within the Caribbean and have never met anyone who will go out of their way to ensure their guests are enjoying themselves. Mark was visible to his guests which I think made my experience more pleasurable. We plan to make this a yearly event going back to Little Dix Bay!

I booked my trip last minute and I paid a high rate, in excess of $900/nt. That, along with the many glowing reviews here, raised my expectations. I was not totally disappointed, but it was not as great as I expected. I would agree that the beach is quite beautiful, the water warm and crystal clear. The staff was either rude and unfriendly, or overly friendly. We had a decent meal at the high end restaurant, Sugar Mill. The food was pretty good there, but dinner with wine was $300, and every waiter and busboy insisted on having a conversation with us. It eventually became annoying. Sometimes it seems the staff runs the hotel and does what's best for them. The lunch buffet often closed when people were still eating. I saw the staff clearing food from the buffet while hotel guests were still getting food, this was at 2:35, the buffet closes at 2:30, but it appeared the staff wanted to go home. Another time the bar closed early because the staff decided that there were not enough guests to warrant staying open. The hotel is generally not well run and the concierge in particular was rude and not helpful at all. The buffet food is OK at best. Stay away from the Beach Grill. My room was nice, with a great outdoor shower, but there is no direct beach view in most rooms because of the thick cover of trees outlining the beach. I was expecting a hotel that was in the class, if not better than a Four Seasons, but this hotel was not.

Definitely go to lunch or dinner at Giorgio, for an amazing view and great food and wine list. I was not impressed with the food or ambiance at Chez Bamboo or Rock Cafe.

If you go to the baths, have lunch at the top of the trail, with great views and a pool, not at the place on the beach.

Christmas vacation this year for my family of seven consisted of ten nights on St. John (Gallows Pt. resort) and four more on Virgin Gorda at Little Dix Bay. I have to say that after all the hype surrounding Little Dix Bay I was somewhat disappointed.
Let me preface this by stating that service and food play huge roles in my mind. The staff at LDB is all over the charts. The concierge was unhelpful at best, as was the staff at the front desk. Yet others- water sports staff, baggage, hoticulturalist couldn't have been more courteous. And virtually anyone connected to the dining end of the resort was just plain rude. I had the distinct impression that unless you left more than the 18% charged gratuity, you were going to be ignored/
Most fellow guests that we met during our stay made a point to go to the other island restaurants, as price and quality at LDB were unsatisfactory.
My daughters ate breakfast each morning getting $3 english muffins. On the fourth morning, their waiter charged $30 each for the buffet. When my daughter explained that they only had english muffins other mornings and were charged $3, he argued and said the computer could not ring up this amount. After serveral rounds of arguments she folllowed him to a touch screen and saw him check off on a line that said "$3-English Muffins". Obhviously greed's nasty head has reared itself at LDB.
Yes, the rooms were beautiful (although my oceanview cottage on the second floor had no view due to palms and sea grape trees), the water exceedingly clear and warm (just as beautiful on St. John), the weather picture-perfect, the grounds immaculate- a manager's touch in not being able to keep all the staff on the same page kept LDB from truly being paradise.
