“very unaccomodating - no water”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2011

We had our family of 8 (six adults and two kids) and rented the two condos for two nights. These were quite nice with two bed rooms and a kitchen and a living room and the location is great. But..we had no water at one of the units for a day and no water at the other for two days. This ment no flushing, no showers etc. When we repeatedly asked the clerk, we were always told "They are working on it." When we finally left, the problem was that they had cisterns that were filled with water that was trucked in and the truch had broke down. They made virtually no effort to alleviate our problem. They acted like this was normal and we could go and use the public showers and bathrooms. Also, the lock was installed incorrectly on one condo and the deadbolt was unusable.

This hotel is great when you are in transit or need an extra night before or after a sailboat charter. It is in the center of Roadtown a and is convenient. The Restaurant is great for comfort food and unwinding.

Village Cay is a hotel, bar, restaurant and marina in Road Town. When incoming Hurricane Earl pulled us off our chartered sailboat, we settled in to this concrete-walled refuge for three nights. Nice pool, very friendly and helpful staff; spotless rooms, good beds. And a GENERATOR, which meant that our lights and air conditioning worked throughout the howling storm. Sometimes you want to survive in comfort; the Village Cay Hotel really came through for us.

A bunch of 10 of us needed to stay just one night while waiting for a flight, and were essentially marooned in Tortola. We had checked the place out earlier and although spoke with the Manageress and got given some rates, the receptionist on arrival could not understand that we actually did not have reservations, so kept drawing a blank when looking a his books/computer.
Anyway, that over, we were shown our rooms, which must have been at the cheaper end of the scale, as they overlooked a car-park and not the marina. Initial impressions of the rooms were good, but in the Room we had (B5) the bathroom let the standard down.
Beds were comfy, TV fine, A/C worked, toilet OK, but the shower was terrible. The head was loose, and there was little pressure & I'm pretty sure the water was cold as well.
After settling, we went to the pool area which was fine, and the main bar & restaurant was adjacent to this. The service at the bar was a little slow at times, but this can be normal in the Carribbean so we got used to it.
The service at the evenin meal was simlar, and we had the usual conversation about should a tip be earned or just given anyway ! We felt the waitresses could have showed a little more enthusiasm, especially as we were the only guests.
The evening meal was great, but the breakfast the next day, a little bland (I had omlette).
The hotel is close to the centre of the town, so its easy to walk around and get a feel for the bustle of Road Town. There was a Chinese takeaway close buy, which did a great cheap lunch judging by the numbers of office staff walking away with brown bags & a drink.
On the waterfront side of the hotel, you can walk to the right (when facing the marina) and there are a couple of modern bars/restaurants worth a look, but thats about it.
In summary, this was probably one of the better hotels around, and was certainly a little cheaper than the new developments on Wickhams Quay 2 (the Moorings/Sunsail base). If I allow for the Carribean laid back attitude, the hotel was "good" and would recommend for those travelling on a medium budget. However, if money is not an object, and you are after luxury, best look elsewhere.

Although, rooms look clean, it didn't feel like it. The internet access is the worst I've encounter. Operations stop at 10pm, everything from the bar to the lobby. Not even for a phone call. Building is very old and look like they have put layers and layers of paint. This is kind of staying at a motel at a Hotel rate. Check other reviews and look around, but if you try to stay here for leisure you will be very disapointed.

Village Cay is located directly on the harbor and caters to the sailing crowd. There is a big marina that uses the hotel place to get cleaned up! The rooms are old, but clean and tidy. But who goes to the BVI to hang out in the room! Great bar and resturant to sit and watch the sunset. Pool small but still OK. Short walk into downtown Roadtown. Reasonable rates (for the BVI).

The room was dark and dirty. Every electrical item in the room was plugged into one power strip...the mini-fridge, the T.V., the coffee maker, the lamp, and the A/C. It was the only outlet in the room, so if you needed to plug in a phone charger or laptop, you needed to unplug something else.
The stand-up shower had mildewed curtains that blew about the bathroom while showering. The one lightbulb in the bathroom is over the shower as opposed to over the sink, so if you need to put in contact lenses, bring them down to the pool where you can see enough to put them in.
Fot the price, it was one of the worst places I've ever stayed.
