We traveled with three families and wanted to be together in one location, so the villa plan worked well for us. We loved the fact the each family had accommodations on different floors and yet we could get to each other without going outside. The rooms were clean and beautifully decorated. The room on the top floor was especially nice and the view outstanding. While we knew there had been some negative reviews about the resort on the internet, we ran into only a few very minor problems. We found the staff friendly, especially when we made the effort to be friendly with them. Our requests and needs were quickly met.z
We really enjoyed the pool at the resort. It was never crowded. The food at the pool bar was excellent. ( Great hot dogs and hamburgers !)
We had the meal plan for the first three days and found the food at the restaurants on site good, with changing menus and live music on several nights. For those who like a tall cool one, be sure to try the bushwacker and painkiller drinks!
Most of the villas except those on the beach are up on the hill and the steep climb would be difficult for those not in good physical condition. We liked the exercise, but it could be a problem for some.
The exercise room is well outfitted with equipment. The massages at the spa were excellent, but the facility is not as fancy as it appears in their literature.
The beach is one of the most beautiful we have ever seen and was never crowded. Not the best for swimming, but there are other areas close by that are great for water sports.
The Swimming with the Dolphins program which is just a short drive down the road was a real winner for all ages and less expensive than anywhere else we have been.
We spent 2 days out on a chartered catamaran and found Peter and Norman Island to be the best snorkeling. The Baths at Virgin Gorda are a must see. Dinner at the Willy T was a fun experience. ( best for adults)
One of the best parts of our stay was connecting with Eric Burke who works at Long Bay, and also owns his own taxi - van tour service "Eric's Taxi" He gave us an outstanding tour of the island. He is a native with lots of information about the history. He has a great sense of humor and we were all entertained, as well as informed. We ended up hiring him for all our transportation needs during our stay. He is an excellent and safe driver. He was always on time and his prices were reasonable. When he couldn't take us somewhere his brother or cousin did. Twice he took us places on his day off. We were glad we had not rented a van ourselves, since the roads are very steep and narrow with lots of blind corners.
All in all, we enjoyed everything about the island. The weather was great. The beaches are beautiful and not crowded. The people are friendly. While the resort is a distance from town, the peace and quiet were a good trade off. Best of all, the island has not been overrun by tourism, so it has retained the charming culture that makes it a delightful place to kick back and enjoy life at a slower pace. We are all looking forward to returning!
