I have traveled to Tortola several times in the past, always staying elsewhere. But this trip, I decided to give Lambert a try. It was the perfect spot to kick off my shoes and relax. The beach was beautiful and clean. I could see a lot of work was being put into the grounds maintenance. Although not luxurious, I found the accommodations to be clean and comfortable. The pool side studios were just perfect. I did some cooking in my room, but the food at the restaurant was also excellent. Aside from the beach, the most outstanding feature of the hotel was the staff. All were polite and helpful and went out of their way to make me feel welcome

I stayed at the Lambert back in June. I can only really come up with two good things about the place. The beach is quite beautiful and secluded, so it's definitely a nice place if you're trying to get away. Also, the staff were fantastic, very courteous and helpful. However, the cons are many. The hotel facilities are pretty basic and not very well maintained. My first reaction when I arrived was that I was at summer camp. The Lambert should not be called a resort. The rooms are not very nice, in comparison for what they charge. Electricity went out a couple times. The hairdryers they have broke on three separate occasions, luckily they had extras. the food is edible, but not that great. Mosquitos are plenty. The place was empty when i was there. Tortola is a wonderful place, but I would definitely not go back to this hotel.

After reading several undesirable reviews of Lamberts, I was very skeptical about staying there. I had already booked the room prior to the recent negative comments. I am so glad we stuck with Lamberts, it really was a true gem! The rooms were clean, the staff was very friendly and helpful, the food was great! The beach was absolutely gorgeous! This was my second trip to Tortola and I would absolutely stay at Lamberts again. The pool was very clean, perhaps since the prior reviews Lamberts stepped up. This is not a party resort so if your looking for more of a party time I would recommend something in Cane Garden. I was looking for rest and relaxation and Lamberts fit the bill perfectly. The only regret I had was that I had to leave.

“Horrible”

We stayed at Lambert in May of 07. First room, which was supposed to have a beach view - didn't so we moved. Second room, A/C didn't work, fan didn't work and had a very disgusting little kitchenette. Third room, which we ended up staying in realizing we weren't going to get any better, was awful, but did have a/c. Bed linens didn't fit the bed, so when you layed down the bottom, fitted sheet kept sliding off. Bedspread was a size too small. Furniture VERY broken in every room we saw. LIght bulbs out and no clock. Staff were not very friendly and pretty much without any personality. The pool had green slime in it and the beach, while beautiful, is not very safe, so we felt very stuck in our room. Would highly recommend NOT staying here. We had been on a sailboat the week before and this was our last night. Our first night we stayed at Maria's by the Sea, which is considerable cheaper, but much much nicer !

HORRIBLE !

Lambert Beach Resort

My wife and I spent one night at Lambert Beach Resort following a bareboat sailing charter and were terribly disappointed that such a beautiful spot has become so neglected.

After we arrived in early afternoon we immediately noticed that the property seemed to be deserted. We checked in and went to our beachfront room to find the lawn tall with weeds. A sliding class door was our only room access and opening required both hands and nearly a foot on the jamb. The immediately noticed areas like table tops, toilet, sink were clean, but after looking a little closer the ceiling fan, corners, and such were coated with dust and grime. The curtains were too small for the sliding door, so we had to prop a chair on the curtain at night to spread it enough to cover the door. If you like TV, they had 3 FOX channels TBS, HBO and a couple NY broadcast channels. One nice feature was a remote control for the AC unit.

We went to the beachfront restaurant for lunch, and though it was around 1:30 pm we were the only ones there. The “catch of the day” was a previously frozen mahi mahi square. Even though the food was so-so it was still a beautiful setting.

The beach is very nice, with high terrain on both ends, and even some large granite boulders on one side, reminiscent of the south end of Virgin Gorda. The surf was high due to north swells that had been coming in all week, so we did not snorkel and do not know if there is any reef to explore from shore. The resort had built little palapas with tables under them on the beach, and it looked like the palm fronds on them had been there for years. With so little effort they could replace the fronds and really spruce up the look of their beach area. They also have beach lounge chairs, yet they are old and faded.

As we explored the grounds we found mature but neglected landscaping. We noticed a number of rooms with their sliding doors open and seemingly in a state of remodel, with furniture piled up inside and out on the porches. We looked in a few and it was obvious that they had been in that state for quite sometime.

The pool was large and had a green tint to it and had a swim-up bar, again all deserted. The bar had not been in use for sometime, as there were old leaves all over the floor and a radio and drink machine and other equipment piled up in a corner. As we walked around the leeward side of the pool we got a whiff of sewage and knelt down to smell the water. The smell was coming from the pool!

There is an attractive recreation building, constructed from stone, with a pay pool table and a big screen TV. The TV area had an inch of water all over the floor and empty shelves that I imagine once had an array of games and books for all the happy guests to enjoy.

We went back to the restaurant for dinner. There was one other guest at the bar with the remote and was channel surfing the whole Dish Network spectrum. The dinner menu was too much food for us, and we asked our very courteous waitress if we could get something else. She had them make a veggie burger, which was good and just the right amount. I also asked her what was going on with the resort. She indicated that they had recently changed hands and the new owners were still working on what they were going to do with the resort. She was understandably concerned for her job and reflected on the beautiful weddings they used to have.

It was easy to imagine how nice this place used to be. It is a lovely setting that deserves so much more care than it is receiving. The employees were kind and hospitable and were doing what they could to make an obviously bad situation tolerable. The owners, however, should shut down the resort until they can offer a product that shows respect for the guests and their money.
