“Great Place to Stay in British Virgin islands”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 15, 2013

We are visiting the Scrub Island Resort this week and love it. Our room is brand new, the resort is 4 years old. We have a one bedroom suite with kitchen, laundry and a gorgeous deck overlooking the marina. We have slept like babies, the beds are so comfortable and thr rooms are quiet. The view from our room is awesome., the yachts docked in the aqua blue waters are amazing. The island is 1 mile around. There is a paved road around the island that we walk every morning for exercise and amazing views. There are two restaurants, Tiera Tiera & Caravela, both offer nice meals. There is also a marketplace. There is a private beach on the other side of the island(10 minute walk) or 1 minute car ride as well as a small beach on property and two lovely pools with swim up bars and a slide. There is also a full gym available. I would definitely recommend this resort and hope to return again.

Room Tip: All rooms are great!!

Just returned from a wonderful BVI vacation! Chartered a yacht and island hopped for several days before we ultimately landed at Scrub Island. Really enjoyed the private beach, small pool and bar set up. Had two nice big pools at the resort with swim up bars. Snorkeling was great in the harbor after we kayaked over to a wonderful reef with colorful fish and stingrays. We enjoyed the paddle boarding too. It was easy to get all of the equipment we needed; snorkel gear, kayak, paddle board, etc. The room was beautiful and it was wonderful to take a nice long hot shower after fun filled days full of activities and relaxing by the pool. We ate at both restaurants and preferred the smaller of the two for lunches. Would definitely go back!

Room Tip: Loved the rooms overlooking Marina Cay!

We went to Scrub Island for Davide Pugliese's superb cooking, to celebrate my husband's birthday, together with 8 other people, many Italian, so we do know good Italian cuisine! Let the pictures speak for themselves. Not to mention the fact that Davide is a wonderful guy! It was simply perfect!

Room Tip: Go to the restaurant when Davide is cooking!

It was our first visit to BVI and the 4 day stay at Scrub Island resort was awesome. The resort arranges for a taxi from the airport to the ferry dock and then a ferry to the resort - total commute is about 10 minutes. Upon arrival we were greeted with a rum punch...the manager also welcomed us when we checked in. The resort is relatively new and well maintained. We only ate at Tiara, Tiara and the food was always well prepared. The infinity pool is awesome - especially at night when there is a full moon...the view couldn't be better. The Island is quite small - we could almost get one mile in by walking around the Island - and the views are spectacular. There are a few beaches to use - the beach on the North end was deserted. Decent snorkelling across the bay from the resort - take a kayak to get there. Dive BVI has a shop on Scrub Island and they provide great excursions. Was a delightful trip and wish we would have planned a longer stay.

the total experience was awesome. Everyone involved ere at the top of their game!all the dive sites were great, as ere the dive masters. At the resort my expectations were exceeded. If you ever need a liaison here in the states, look no further. When I came back from there friends and family said I should be your public relations officer because I was so enthusiastic about my experience there. By the way, I'll be back. That's a promise. I already started saving money.

We travelled to Scrub Island Resort with two other couples on April 24th for a week of fun in the sun. The resort, which is a short boat ride from Tortola is just 5 years old and beautiful. Amenities are top of the line and there are two restaurants and more just a boat ride away. We stayed in a beautiful villa with three master bedrooms. Beach and pool accommodations were terrific and the folks that work there are just plain fantastic. The head chef, Davida, runs a good "ship" and is their to help. We recommend Scrub island Resort!

Room Tip: They, from everyone we talked to, are all excellent rooms.

This is indeed beautiful place. Only 54 rooms you tend to meet a lot of people in the pool, the swim up bars, and the day trips. We met couples on their honeymoon, people there for the day on their yatchts, very rich people that just seemed to show up hang out there (one guy flew in on his personal helicopter with his entourage) , and M'ott "point people" like us. Everyone is treated with the utmost respect, they go out of their way to try and please. The staff delightful. Ask you where you're from etc and they do their best to remember your name. We had "Debbie" (real name?) as our waitstaff twice at Tirra Tirra for dinner. We were on the resort ferry headed to Trellis Bay area for dinner. There was like 30 employees just getting off work on the boat and the two of us. Debbie points us out saying our names and asking how out nights going. Again... she's off work chatting with her work friends. These people are genuine.

We arrrived on April 18th and stayed for 6 nights. We thought that the tourist season would be just winding down. We were correct. Nothing was too crowded. The flooding rains that we left in the midwest haunted us down at Scrub however. We didn't get any rain but the first 3 days were very cloudy and very windy. So windy that the Scrub dive shop cancelled their Saturday all day island hopper tour, their big boat was also broke down. But (apparently) hearing of our (and a few others) disspointment Binny the staff manager called in a larger boat from a different company from Virgin Gorta. We got calls from the staff saying (some people with 30 minutes to spare) that the trip was back on! And with a bigger boat and off we went! Ten of us muscling our way thru 8 foot swells visiting 5 different amazing BVI islands, snorkling, eating at Willy T's and finally snorking the wreck of the Rhone. Saw the biggest spotted eagle ray I've ever seen gliding just above the increadible 1866 wreck. A great day.
Dive BVI took us on the Monday Virgin Gorta tour. The wind died down to 20mph (from over 40). A short 20 minute ride on a small dive boat then we were met by a "cab" (pick up van conversion) for the 3 hour tour and swimming at the Baths of Virgin Gorta. Then a great lunch at a very nice resturant on a beautiful beach and then tour the rest of the island. We went to several spectacular overlooks including the famous "hog heaven" bar. We finished with a beach trip for snorkeling and swimming. Another great day.

There are three kinds of rooms at the Scrub. Regular hotel rooms, one and two bedroom suites. We stayed in regular room the first two nights. The bathroom was very nice and big, that's the nicest thing I can say about it. The rest of the room was kinda small. No place to put your luggage, small fridg, no microwave, etc. The real problem that everone complained about with the regular rooms (blame the architech NOT the hotel staff that have to live with the complaints) is that the balcony's are tiny! So tiny that they only have two little wooden folding chairs on them and no table. You have to set your drink down on the floor.
We got upgraded to a one bed room suite the last four nights. ("you get more with sugar than the stick") What a difference, total over kill! More than twice the size of the regular rooms. State of the art full kitchen. Great flatware, plates, glasses cups icemaker etc. Free coffee, free espresso. We liked the washer and dryer. Why have a wet saltly bathing suit? Huge balcony with huge patted chairs, ottomans and a nice table for your drink and snack.
Almost every room overlooks the marina. Boats are coming and going all day and night so there's always something to look at and people watch. We had room 1221 second floor right smack in the middle of the hotel, a great location building 12. On four occations the 150 foot boat slip was occupied, there is some huge money in the BVI's! At night the marina lights up like a giant swimming pool and the tarpin and eagle rays move into the crystal clear water.

The deli's sandwichs are very good, and reasonable. eight dollars for a nice size sub sandwich that can be dinner or two lunchs. We mostly eat at the resturants accessable from Trellis bay. We bought liquor and beer at the little Trellis bay market and brought it over to Scrub, saved about half.

Don't be lazy. Take a walk around Scrub on the road to North Beach. Keep going all the way around the island. Spectacular views! North beach is nice but it was too winding the week we were there to really enjoy it.
One minor comment. My wife and I just turned a young 60. This place is vertical. Bright white steps and steep ramps. No elevators at all. Again great exorcise but we met people that weren't prepared for it.

Overall an unforgettable trip. We've been to several other island vacations via M'ott (St. Kitts, Aruba, Curacao X3, Grand Cayman X2, Hawaii X4) but the BVI's take the cake. Hundreds of little islands with vista's from a dream. Perfect beaches, incredible rock formations with the waves crashing into them, amazing. And great people to boot. There's a huge difference between the USVI and the BVI's even thought they're right next to each other.

This place is magical. Befriend Binny Sabastian and the GM Martin Smith. They appear out of nowhere. I met Martin on the dock at Trellis (not the hotel). He was concerned that some VIP guests were late and was handling it personally. Never be a pushy tourist they've heard it all before. Have fun, enjoy!

Thank you for your very detailed review of your trip to our island, we are glad you had a great visit and are always happy to get some wonderful feedback. We are especially pleased to here that our staff made you feel welcomed, even when off-duty. It is hard to find good people, but we feel that we have the best team anywhere in the BVI. Thanks also for mentioning Binny, our extraordinary resort manager, and how he went so far as to get a larger boat for an island hopping trip, rather than cancel due to the wind. We will be sure to pass along your compliments. Also happy you mentioned all the fun side trips from Scrub Island as we feel it is the perfect jumping off point for all of the BVI. We hope you will visit us again, in the meantime, safe travels and sunny weather.
