“Great place to dock”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2013

We had a great time resting and enjoying this beautiful facility! The people there were wonderful and it was a perfect stopping point for the kids. Great swimup bar, restaurant, infinity pool, and slips.

First, I would like to mention that if you are a platinum member don’t count on getting upgraded. Most people we met at the resort were platinum members and the resort just can’t accommodate all of the upgrades. We did receive an arrival gift which was a full bottle of wine (nice surprise!) All of the rooms have an amazing view, we were in the building 17 which is the closest to the ocean side and in my opinion the best view of them all. The staff was amazing; from the check in desk to the restaurant to the towel check out. One night while waiting for the shuttle to the Tortola Island we got ambushed by torrential rain, we were soaking wet! Out of nowhere John, one of the employees appeared with dry towels for all of us, wow! A visit to the North beach is a must! You might even catch a glimpse of a Devil Ray that hangs out there almost every day and if you are not too scared get pretty close to him :) On our final day, we bought the Island hopper from the BVI diving and it was amazing! We even caught a glimpse of the dolphins playing in the water by Jost Van Dyke! This was by far the best beach vacation and I cant wait come back!

Thank you for your wonderful review about your recent stay on Scrub Island. We are glad that you were happy with your visit to us and that our staff was able to "wow" you. We really try hard to accommodate all our guest's needs whenever possible. And thanks for the note about Marriott Platinum Members. We love our Platinum Friends but you are right, many of our visitors are in that elite level and so we cannot always provide an upgrade in the room. We do try to make the trip extra special in other ways. We do hope to see you again! Please keep in touch through facebook or twitter and we look forward to seeing you soon.

Sincerely,
Martin Smith. Managing Director

This is an up and down review.
The place is pretty modern and the adjoining rooms with washer/dryer, fridge, kitchen, great bathroom and comfortable beds were perfect. Balconies over looking the marina. Complimentary shuttle around the island which seems to always be prompt.
The place has a half way feel better a residence place and a hotel. There is a dive shop, a grocery shop (which doesn't have too much in it), a tourist clothes shop. The food outlets are split between the outside all day food and the fancy inside restaurant. Both are pretty good even it on the expensive side.

The downside we found was the place is not set up to helping the tourist out to see more of the area. There are a few trips which only run on some days and then when its changed it itinerary and didn't do what we wanted. Something as simple as popping over to Virgin Gorda was all very difficult and in the end we were offered a private charter at $700 for 3 people for the short trip to the island and back (there was a public ferry option which was a bit zigzag and again pretty costly). The resort has a shuttle boat and I would have thought assisting with providing a bit more destinations to see and do would have been a nice touch. In the end it gave you the feel of being stuck on the island (which is a shame as its not a bad place to be stuck). But at the end of our stay we did feel a relief at leaving.

The Tuesday night BBQ on the beach was good and a nice way to sample a range of food.

You are paying a lot to be here and with other places I have stayed you just get a bit more provided or available to you.

Room Tip: Bring some food with you - it would save on a little cost if you are worried about that.

Thank you for your review - we appreciate your comments as it helps us to provide the best service to all our guests. We are very happy that you liked the resort and had a found everything to be well kept and comfortable. But we are disappointed to hear that you had trouble getting to other islands with ease. We generally recommend that all guests talk to our reservations team prior to arrival as we will be happy to set up any side trips for you in advance. We are sorry if you did not get that opportunity. Either way, we will take your comments under advisement so we can improve on this. We do hope you will visit us again in the future, but please connect with us on Facebook or Twitter in the meantime.

We had a lovely 5 night stay at Scrub. We never ate at the outside dinning area next to the pool as I am not a fan of buffets, but the inside formal dining room was great. The chef was featured on the cover of Coastal Living while we were there. The fixed price menu had plenty of options and was a great bargain. We ate there 3 out of 5 nights, going to the Last Resort and to Pusser's on Maria Cay (both require boat ride provided by restaurant). I highly recommend eating in the formal dining room, but no need to take a jacket or tie, it is the BVI! The views were great from our room and our room was nice, but the tiny balcony was furnished with two wooden folding chairs and that's it. Not even a small table for our coffee cup. It seems like a small thing to fix for a huge return. The resort seemed eerily empty some days and too crowded the next - I wonder if that is because they can't control who shows up via sail boats? One day we couldn't find a place to sit at the beach (we walked - didn't see the need for a ride) and the same day the pool was out of towels. Also so much stone everywhere means you have to be extra careful when it rains. No safety surfaces at all - not even on the stairs. But bottom line is we soaked up the sun, the views (especially as the sun set from the hot tub looking towards Tortola), and dining on great food in the restaurant and am glad we had Dive BVI to take us on the Island Hopper tour and snorkeling at Diamond reef, within spitting distance of the resort so we had a great vacation. We used Marriott points and am not sure if we will be back, but I do recommend it to others looking for a nice room and/or a great dinner in the BVI.

Thank you for your review of Scrub Island Resort. We are happy that you were pleased with your stay and enjoyed dining in our restaurants. We appreciate your comments and will pass them along to our staff. The many positive comments are great but we also take into accounts your suggestions for improvement.. such as safety surfaces on stairs and a table for a coffee cup on deck. Good thoughts! Thank you. We do hope you will come again.

Sincerely,
Martin Smith, Managing Director

We are so impressed with this place we are reviewing it before we leave! First the people here are all so friendly, happy, and helpful. The airport pickup, the market, the boat rides to and from, the taxi rides and of course the resort itself everyone is not only polite but genuinely happy to help you.
We were greeted at the resort at the dock with a delicious and cold beverage which was great after the warm , but beautiful ride from Tortola. Celena was awesome helping us check in and showing us the amenities on the island. Once settled we enjoyed one of the best views from our very large and posh room. We purchased our trip from luxury link and were slightly concerned we would get the least popular room. No way! In room 1021 we were very close to the restaurant and pool area, but even on Superbowl Sunday we were never disturbed by the low noise level. We read in other reviews that this place is a ghost town. It was part of why we chose this resort instead of the Ritz in Grand Cayman. If you are looking for a wild and party filled location you may be disappointed, however if you are interested in somewhere beautiful and tranquil to relax and getaway this is where you want to be! On our first day we decided to take kayaks to Honeymoon beach. Corolla and Joevanni at the activity desk were great! They sent us off with towels and simple directions for our tandem kayak. It was a small beach, but so secluded. We were the only ones there the whole time. It felt like our own private island. Again no parties or big social hour, but that's exactly what we were looking for! Breakfast here is the same, only a few people out on the beautiful patio overlooking the harbor and part of Tortola. The food here has been very goodl! I'm a huge eggs Benedict fan, but very picky about my hollandaise sauce. They must make theirs from scratch; it's one of the best I've had! My husband did wish his bacon was crispier, but still good. We haven't had dinner here yet so I cant mention that in this review. It has been so wonderful having our own kitchen. After a day in the sun a simple bowl of pasta and veggies was great out on our veranda. We aren't the dress up type so it's been really awesome to have our own area to be relaxed and ourselves. We do hear some banging in the morning around 9am but not too bad. Overall this place has been incredible! We hope to post again after we are home, if things change we will mention it.

Room Tip: Not sure if they have a bad room from the layout we see for the one and two bedrooms...

Upon arriving we were told that we were being upgraded to a suite. The suite was beautiful. However, the view from the patio was a cement wall. We love sitting and looking out over the ocean. We went to dinner and were greeted by a visiting resort manager. We told him how unhappy we were with no view. He assured us he would make a call and someone would come to the restaurant to offer us options. We waited and nobody showed up. No phone call either. The next day we went to the reception area. After some whispers between staff we were taken to a tiny room with a 3 ft. balcony with 2 folding wooden slate chairs with no arms. The resort seemed quite empty but this was the only available room. We returned to the suite. Balconies are on top of one another so there is no privacy. we had groups shouting and singing at night. Happy they were enjoying themselves but didn't need to be part of their fun. The resort is covered in stone tiles which become slippery when it rains. The curved stone stairs at the pool are treacherous . North Beach is private but you need a ride up the mountain to get there and the space is not well maintained. Having stayed all over the BVI we would choose a different resort. The staff are wonderful which is why I gave 3 stars.

Room Tip: Get a suite in building 17 with a view of the ocean. It is the only place that you can't hear t...

Thank you for your review of your recent stay at Scrub Island resort. I am sorry that the suite was not to your liking and I apologize for not responding to your concern on your first night. We do our best to make our guests happy but apparently dropped the ball in your case. We make every attempt to satisfy our guests concerns, but unfortunately we are not always able to offer complimentary upgrades to the suites on the higher floors.

We do hope that you will give Scrub Island resort another chance on your next trip to BVI. If so, please do not hesitate to reach out to me in advance so we can set up something special for you.

Sincerely,
Martin Smith, Managing Director

This is a nice property, great location, a real escape from reality, the rooms are beautiful, the view is stunnig but the service is way behind that you would expect from Marriott, the quailty of food also needs to be improved. The staff needs some more training and it will be ***** :-)

Room Tip: I guess all the rooms are great, since all of them have a nice view on the water.
