“Just back from Tortola”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

We just returned from an 8 night stay at The Heritage Inn, Tortola, BVI. Cannot say enough great things about the Inn, the location, the marvelous staff and Rosa and Chris, all the servers and workers...friendly, warm, helpful-just the A team! Our room was spotless, cleaned daily, and we loved having a little kitchen and a first rate glorious view of Carrot Bay and the turquoise Caribbean. Just can't say enough about it. We will be going back, and with friends! Used Dede's car rental and they were spot on, delivered our car to The Heritage and helpful. Next year we'll get a bit bigger jeep. The hairpins on the one rainy day were a bit much for the smallest jeep rental even w/4W. Otherwise, the driving was a fun "sport" initiation but no match for the Irish! It is a gem to return to many times.

Room Tip: All the rooms are good w/sterling views! Isn't Heaven enough?!

We had a great time at the Heritage Inn. With just two nights on Tortola, we wanted a comfortable and convenient base, and the Heritage was perfect. The restaurant quite possibly has the best view on the Island, so we ate there both nights, enjoying the sunsets, food, and drinks. Chris was also a great host, and went out of her way to make us comfortable. The rooms themselves aren't anything fancy and might need a few minor updates, but all in all it we had a great stay and would definitely return.

We are frequent visitors to Tortola and the Heritage Inn, so this is an update – and reaffirmation - of a previous review. The Heritage Inn remains a favorite Caribbean destination for us. The freshly redecorated suites are continually being updated; this year brings new, permanent AC in the bedrooms and flat screen TV’s. The staff is beyond delightful; dining and ‘event’ recommendations are always spot on. The Bananakeet Restaurant, on site, remains top-notch; out of our recent 8 night stay, we dined there 4 times.
Chris, Bonkey and crew go out of their way to make your stay memorable. These folks are world class, frequently including guests in experiences that are hard to find in the Caribbean (such as personalized visits to other islands).
The well documented view is a treat to be relished. (Even if you choose to stay elsewhere, don’t miss the sunset from the Bananakeet).
If you have previously visited Tortola and are visiting again in 2013, here are a few notes from our trip:
• The Jolly Roger Restaurant was not open in January; speculation was it may reopen late in the season.
• For the 1st time we used DeDe’s Car Rental in East end. We could not be happier with our experience; we were met at the airport and also dropped the car there. The service is fantastic, the car was in excellent condition (everything worked, even the side-view mirrors!) The price was also right.
• We had 2 breakfasts and one dinner at the Sailor’s Rest Restaurant in Cane Garden Bay. Highly recommended, this sits right at the dinghy dock. Wonderful view and great service.

We spent 7 nights at the Heritage Inn in early December 2012. The views and sunsets are as wonderful as described in other reviews.

We loved the atmosphere and food at the Bananakeet restaurant. It was great to be able to have fabulous cocktails, delicious food, a good choice of wine, hear live music (on Wed & Fri), and then stroll back to our room. Although we'd planned to check out a few restaurants on Tortola, we liked the food at the Bananakeet so much that we ate there ever night of our stay!

The accommodation is not fancy, but it's spotless, suited our needs and is incredible value for money, particularly for the BVI. We will definitely be returning to the Heritage Inn and will be recommending it to all our friends who value the same things we do i.e. stunning views and sunsets, great food and drinks, and a clean and comfortable place to stay.

Chris and all her crew are lovely people who work very hard to make all their guests feel genuinely welcome.

During a stay on Tortola, we would recommend:

1. Tasting the Bananakeet chef's Churrasco Beef and his Banana Chutney Jerk Pork Loin.

2. Sampling the fantastic cocktails at the Bananakeet.

3. Josiah's Bay (check out Naomi's fantastic chicken roti and painkillers while watching surfers! The roti is the best we had in various places in Tortola and St John, USVI).

4. Sebastians, LittleApple Bay for breakfast with a stunning view - looks like it'd be great for dinner too.

5. The Captain's Rest at Cane Garden Bay for cocktails and sunset (though it doesn't beat the Banankeet's view or the quality of their cocktails).

6. Myett's, Cane Garden Bay for cocktails and food.

7. Quito's, Cane Garden Bay for great live music and wonderful views.

8. Jerry's jeep rental.

Room Tip: Room 9 looks perfect.

We stayed here for three nights amidst our island exploring adventure. It is located on the cliffside of Windy hill over looking Little Carrot bay to the south and Jost Van Dike due west and the north coast to other. Past Little Carrot you can see a cool surf spot and the world famous Bumba Shack.
If you can get room #9, it probably has some of the best views on the island. And you get a little private patio outside your front door that is perfect for sipping coffee over looking Paradise. Chris the owner, couldn't have been nicer with her expert recommendations of the island's best sights and things that shouldn't be missed.
And with the Bananakeet Cafe also on property, first rate cuisine and drinks are right out the front door.

We stayed at the Heritage Inn last month and it was amazing! The room was great, the people are wonderful. We enjoyed dinner and drinks at the Bananakeet. The views are exceptional, especially sunset! Thanks to Rosa and her team for making our stay memorable and we can't wait to come back! Michelle and Ronnie

Chris and Bunky totally made our vacation amazing. The view is breathtaking and the best on Tortola hands down. The restaurant was great and the sunset view could not have been any more beautiful. The staff was warm and friendly with Chicken, Rosa, Chef Spice and our waitress from Dominica. Chris and Bunky are the greatest, they took us around the island and we even went to other islands with them. We will be back and I recommend the Heritage Inn to anybody traveling thru Tortola.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Heritage Inn is just what you want if you are looking for the total getaway. The Inn is located on the hilltop of a sleepy village: Carrot Bay, on the north side of Tortola. These comfortable apartments offer probably the most breathtaking views on the island: "voted Best sunset view in the BVI!" 180 degrees east and west and overlooking Jost Van Dyke, Sandy & Green Cays and three Tortola bays. This locally owned inn is quaint and quiet. Each suite has a private view-facing balcony and is furnished with a fully equipped kitchen, living room and AC king-size bed in bedrooms. Three suites have two bedrooms for family or friendly vacationers. Six, clean and comfortable, one bedroom suites also offer enough space to just forget your cares and hang out for a week. The views are so beautiful that most guests just "gape" for the first few days. In the summer the sun sets directly over the water. It is so beautiful that the locals go up for sunset cocktails at the BananaKeet Cafe on the poolside veranda to watch the sun setting over the awesome horizon. It's no wonder the slogan reads... the Higher you Get... the Better the Views!! ... more   less
