My wife and I just returned from a 3 night stay at the Mongoose Apartments. When we arrived at the hotel after a long day of travelling, Sandra was there waiting for us. She quickly showed us around, then left us to rest after the long trip. We had originally planned on renting the car the next day, but once we arrived we decided to wait a day. Sandra said she would call Denzil Cline in the morning with the change of plans. The apartment was very clean, has a really functional floorplan, and was well provisioned with whatever you would need for cooking. The bed was really comfortable. There were coolers in the rooms as well as beach towels. We were located on the first level so we had a front door on the balcony and a door in the back with a half door. We didn't use the air conditioning. Left the windows open to listen to the tree frogs. There were plenty of fans in the rooms so we never really needed the AC. Sandra was around if we had questions regarding day trips, restaurants, etc. They also have beach chairs, loungers and kayaks for you to use down at the beach. The beach is a short walk down the lane. You are also far enough down the beach that you are out of the chaos when the cruise ship crowds roll in. (The first day that we were there, they had 2 ships in Road Town.) For the price, the location, and the way we were treated, you can't go wrong. The best comparison that we could make was that it was like staying with old friends. We were sad to leave. We loved it. We're trying to figure out how to get back as soon as possible.

8 friends ... ages 26-28 from los angeles, california U.S.A. on an adventure to the caribbean.

goals:
1.) experience an island and its true essence
2.) explore all beaches
3.) enjoy the food and RUM!
4.) before i died, i wanted to visit the soggy dollar bar (it's on jost van dyke island, the island across tortola)... a friend of mine told me years ago that when he was young, his uncle took him sailing. that they would dock their boat closest to the beach, swim to shore, and hang their soggy dollars at the bar... this is where the FIRST PAINKILLER DRINK was born. was this place real? sooo...we decided... why not go NOW!

we actually went this past summer. July 4th, 2006 week. Haven't had time to post a review once we got back to our busy work lives. It was my friend's birthday... We spent the day at Smuggler's Cove BEACH... and this magic drink fruit and rum bar appeared on the shore while we were swimming. MAGIC DRINKS!

We wanted to absorb the vibe of the british virgin islands, and Tortola was the best place to experience that. It was in the center of the other british virgin islands such as jost van dyke and virgin gorda... we also went to the u.s. virgin islands after.

WE LOOOOOVE the British Virgin Islands more. We had a chef who was travelling with us, so we wanted to have a kitchen and be comfortable. Mongoose was everything and more. As soon as we arrived, Sandra had a note left for us in the front door office with all our names. WE LOVE YOU SANDRA! sorry we didn't get to hang out and talk more... we were always out snorkeling, sailing, or island hopping.

Bananakeet restaurant... LOVED IT. eat there. hahaha. We also swam with Dolphins. We went sailing with Catamaran KURALU: (--)
BEST SAIL. Great food and people. We even saw a turtle underwater! They took us to a floating boat bar where we were jumping off the top of it. There's FREE kayaks to use in front of the beach where Sandra and Elroy stay... They have the best spot.

ALL AND ALL... one of the best island adventures of my life. We usually go to Hawaii and i love islands... so i thought it was time we absorb a whole new culture and vibe. It was beautiful.

There seems to be lots of pictures of the apartments already... I say come see for yourself! So i posted some of my favorite pictures from the trip... TO GET YOU TO COME AND STAY AT MONGOOSE! We've stayed at alot of hotels... but when it came down to it, with all our adventures... it was so wonderful to come home to the Mongoose and relax. It really was home.

My new husband and I returned this week from our honeymoon in Tortola. We stayed at a wonderful home away from home called the Mongoose Apartments. Sandra and Elroy Sr are the perfect proprietors, unobtrusive but close when you need them.
If it's the history of Tortola, a rental car or bug spray, they have it or will assist you in getting it. For those that enjoy a nice book, they have a book exchange system. Take one of theirs and leave one of yours if you like.
Elroy Jr and Michelle are also godsends. Extremely helpful and pleasant to be around.
The rooms are great. Large and airy with ceiling fans and shutter style windows. With the breeze and fans, we never used the a/c once.
The Mongoose has it's own beach access. A couple minute walk down the path to beautiful Cane Garden Bay. Elroy Sr and Sandra have provided their guests with a fenced area where the beach chairs, ocean kayaks and floaties are kept.
All in all, a fabulous place to stay and enjoy Tortola.

We went to the BVI for our 10th Anniversary. My husband and I stayed at our timeshare property and had to find a place for our friends! I could not have picked a better pace. It was so clean and Sandra was so very helpful each and everyday! She even emailed me upon our return to see that we made it safely. We truley had a wondeful time. Can not wait to return! Next time all 4 of us will stay here!
