“Great Place to Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2010

Right on the beach and yet still in the jungle. Sandra -- the owner -- is lovely. Good value for money. Perfect island vacation spot for people who want all the facilities and don't want to be disturbed. Location is movie-ready perfect in terms of beach, mountains, jungle, palm trees and laid-back beach bars. Perfect honeymoon spot for seasoned travellers seeking semi-isolated paradise.

Couple of points nothing to do with Mongoose Apts: When the surf is very high in Cane Garden Bay there's no beach left, but the waves are spectacular. And when 3 cruise ships are docked in Road Town the beach can get v crowded between 11am and 4pm. But then it empties out like *that*.

the previous review says is better than I can - seems we probably met each other, as our stays overlapped by 6 days - we were there for 8 nights from Jan 4-11, just perfect.
clean, spacious, and just far enough back to be very peaceful and quiet, and safe.
this was our first trip to anywhere in the Caribbean, and after searching travel sites up and down, we're so glad that we choose Mongoose apartments.
we're already planning a return trip next year, and after looking (from the street) at the other options I had not chosen, we're sure we made the right choice!
Sandra set up up with a driver (Godfrey) for a day, and on our last day, printed out
our boarding passes, and called us a cab to get to the ferry terminal at West End in time.
can't say enough postivie things about Mongoose, or Sandra - she did everything she could to make us comfortable, and we thank her for that!

We just returned from a 7 night stay at Mongoose Apartments. I hope this review conveys my highest recommendations. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to PM me and I will do my best to respond as Tripadvisor was a tremendous influence on our choice of accommodations.

We arrived late in the day, but Sandra (one of the owners) had left us a note on the office door with instructions to locate our unit. As we went up the steps we were greeted by the smell of “clean”. This apartment was very clean and well maintained. It was very obvious that the owners keep on top of any repairs or maintenance that is needed. The owners also had a welcome booklet prepared with information on restaurants, ferry schedules and other very useful information. We also appreciated that the full sized refrigerator was stocked with 2 bottled waters and 2 beers. We did not need to go out that evening to purchase water. We did use the information to locate a restaurant for dinner that evening.

The apartment was very spacious with a living-room, eat-in kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and very large walk-in closet. Someone very thoroughly designed the unit for maximum use of space and comfort. The bedroom is air-conditioned (which we did not need) and has a ceiling fan and floor fan. The bed was a very comfortable pillow-top king sized bed. Between the bedroom and the bathroom is a large walk in closet with lots of hangers and shelving. The best part of the closet was the electronic safe which was spacious with ample room for our laptop, cameras, I-Pods, wallets, passports and still lots of room left over. The living room had 2 built in sofas and even had cable television which was great for keeping up with the news. Also included were beach coolers that we took advantage of a couple of days. Don't bother bringing beach towels because those were also provided. These folks thought of absolutely everything! I sprained my toe and Sandra was able to provide bandages to wrap it with and that was truly a lifesaver. If you run out of reading material, they have one of the biggest lending libraries I have ever seen and we have been to numerous large resorts.

The design of the units is such that each patio area is private. It was lovely to sit out in the early morning or late afternoon and just enjoy the peaceful sounds of nature. If you are a smoker, an ashtray is provided on the patio area because the units are non-smoking. As a non-smoker this was very important to me. If the unit had been smoked in, I would have known.

The kitchen is compact, yet well provisioned with any cooking utensil you may need. We do not usually cook while on vacation, but ended up cooking most of our meals. It was so convenient to use that well equipped kitchen to prepare our meals. Bobby's grocery store is literally a 5 minute walk from the apartments and had everything we needed at a reasonable price considering the island location.

Sandra was very helpful with arranging for a Jeep rental and even made dinner reservations for us one evening. When we first arrived, we had difficulty with the WiFi and she was so willing to help us figure it out (I get cranky when I can't access my email!). Once we had the WiFi figured out, it worked great. The connection was so good, we were able to use Skype to make numerous calls home.

The location is ideal. The beach is an easy 3 minute walk on a picturesque paved road. The beach is hands down the best beach in Cane Garden Bay. Very clean, fine, soft sand. The owners have comfortable lounge chairs as well as beach toys for your use. We were on the beach one day when 3 cruise ships were in port (Road Town) and did not feel crowded at all. The “cruisers” did not tend to walk down to that area. They seemed to stay close to their taxi-bus drop off area.

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask. I can not recommend Mongoose Apartments enough. We feel this was the best location in terms of beach access, dining locations, entertainment and super clean and comfortable accommodations. We feel lucky to have found that little slice of paradise and can not wait to return!

we have just returned home from a 2 week vacation in the british virgin islands. after landing in st thomas and staying over night there, our next stop was a 3 night stay at the mongoose apartments in cane garden bay. the main focus of our trip was a 1 week sailboat charter but we wanted afew days on shore first to relax and experience island living. we could not have made a better choice than cane garden bay and the mongoose apartments!!!!!! our group was made up of 2 parents and 6 teenagers aged 21, 21, 20,19, 15 and 13. we booked 2 apartments- each of which slept 4 people comfortably. each unit was made up of 1 bedroom with a queen bed and a living room with 2 single beds that were also couches in day time. the units were great-well stocked, spacious and very clean . we cooked all our meals -eating out with a big family gets very expensive. the location of these apartments was excellent- just a few minute walk and you were on the main road where the grocery stores, bars ,restaurants and laundry were. yet, being off the main road , made for a peaceful feeling . we felt very safe there and had no concerns about any of the kids going off on their own. we spent our days at the beach where sandra and elroy have comfortable chairs and loungers for their guests use as well as kayaks and mats. yes, the beach was beautiful and great for swimming and not more than afew minutes from the apartment. the cruise ship crowd did arrive 2 out of the 3 days, but only afew crusiers made it down to "our" end of the beach and they were gone by about 2:00. our hosts were helpful when we needed them but never intrusive. the place truly felt like home the short time we were there and i hope i have the chance to return someday!!! the only possibly negative comment i have to make is in regards to construction noise associated with a house being built behind the apartments. we were there over a weekend so there was only noise 1 day. also we got up early and spent most of the day at the beach so it did not bother us very much. i only mentioned it for some one who is bothered by noise or plans to spend alot of the day in their unit to consider. thank you sandra and elroy for making our introduction to the BVI such a wonderful experience. thank you also to all the previous reviewers because i made the decision to stay here based on the high rating the mongoose apartments received and believe me, their high rating is truly justified!!!

Like most reviews have stated, if you want luxury this is not the spot for you. We stayed at Long Bay Beach resort on the first leg of our trip. Lovely spot. Poshi condo like you can find anywhere in Florida. We however, prefer to feel and experience the caribbean lifestyle.

Sandra has these apartment so well equiped, I couldn't think of one item that might be missing from the kitchen if I tried. I could quite easily live in one of these apartments.

A wonderful short walk to the most beautiful beach on the island. It was within a 5 min. walk to anything you needed. Beach bars, groceries, restraurants, laundry.
The units are very spacious, spotless and the staff was outstanding. Thank you Michelle for such a warm welcome.
Sandra also has everything you could think of to enjoy the beach. Lounge chairs, kayaks, boogies boards, mattresses..........

The part of the beach used by the Mongoose is a perfect location. Just far enough away that you weren' t mobbed by people when the cruise ships taxied people over to the Bay. I know other people had comment on how busy the beach can get when the cruise ships are in. We certainly didn't find any problem with this. It made the beach lively and enjoyable.

We loved this tiny little gem and do plan to return. You can't go wrong with this place!

Not a luxury hotel, but exactly what we needed that allowed us to relax and enjoy Cane Garden Bay for three nights. Big suite with full kitchen, clean, very close to beach and restaurants. We stayed here before going out on our sailboat charter for a week and it was the perfect intro to the BVI.

I travel to many locations and get tired of "standard" hotels. I have been to Mongoose four times now and love it each time. If you want utimate luxury, posh settings & a concierge in a tux, this may not be for you. If you are looking for a home away from home (the rooms are large with fully equipped kitchens), friendly people and a laid back atmosphere, this is the place! I could easily stay in town, near my office/clients, but am more than happy to drive 15 or so minutes over the mountain to stay at Mongoose and go for a relaxing swim at Cane Garden bay after a longs days work. Keep up the great work Sandra.
