“Perfect Location & Excellent Restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2014

This hotel is located two blocks from the strip of beautiful restaurants on the water, in Grand Case St. Martin. The rooms were very well equipped. We enjoyed the full sized refrigerator as it cooled our store purchased goods while saving us a few dollars. The restaurant (Sunset Cafe) is exceptional, with a beautiful linguini and white clam sauce for lunch. The wine selection is extensive and the lobster, on friday, is slightly discounted.
The front desk was very helpful, the cleaning crew thorough, even if they serviced the rooms a little late.
The breakfast was bread, butter, jelly, juice, and coffee. If that satisfies your breakfast needs, good. If not you'll have to order off the menu for an additional charge. That being said, there aren't many breakfast places nearby. None that are open in the morning. (no joke, two crepe places very close to the hotel aren't open until late afternoon)

This was our 6th stay at this gem in Grand Case. Almost everyone we talked to who stayed there said they would definitely come back. And even though my wife and I are in our 50s, we noticed that at least half the people staying there were under the age of 35. Reasons why it is perfect for us: (1) the village of Grand Case with all of its charm and dining options is within walking distance of GCBC. But it's far enough away to feel somewhat secluded. (2) while the rooms are not what one might consider "luxury", they are clean and well maintained. The kitchenettes in each room make longer stays more convenient. (3) the staff does everything to make your staff enjoyable (4) the grounds are beautiful with extensive native vegetation and wonderful flowering plants. (5) they are a one-stop location with on-site dining and water sports activities as well a beautiful beach.

We just got home from an amazing trip at GCBC. The reviews are not kidding when they say that St. Martin is the friendliest island in the Caribbean. We have traveled all over the world, and would rank GCBC and its staff among the top. From our arrival until the time we left, we were greeted with smiles and a staff that always went above and beyond. The resort is very clean, quiet, and the rooms are fantastic. We stayed in a 2-story, 2 bedroom, condo-style oceanfront, which was perfect for our family. Gorgeous views - especially the sunsets. It was a nice balance of quiet and play - even for our active teenage daughter. We enjoyed paddle boarding, snorkeling, swimming, and mostly lounging on the beach. Never had a problem finding chairs on this lovely, pristine beach. It is a wonderful place to introduce snorkeling to beginners, as you can see quite a bit right off shore. We saw a sting ray, an eel, and many different types of fish. If you are used to great snorkeling, you may be disappointed, but it still fun. The water is crystal clear and warm.

Finally, the restaurant. Heavenly. We had read that you never need to leave the resort, and definitely found that to be true. We went into town one afternoon, but never felt the desire to return. Sunset Cafe had a GREAT staff who made every meal a delight. The food was fantastic, and worth every penny. The views were amazing. For parents of kiddos with food allergies … our daughter has a nut/soy allergy, and they made every effort to keep her food safe. Thank you!
We shopped at the local grocery store for lunch and snack goodies that we prepared in our room. Prices at the store were very reasonable (and everything is in French - a fun change of pace).

Some things worth noting … you cannot check in before 3:00 p.m., so try to schedule your flights accordingly. Although spending time in the cafe is certainly a lovely way to wait. Spend a little extra for the ocean front rooms - the views are definitely worth it. Also, if you eat at the restaurant, tip at each meal.

After spending 4 nights on the Dutch side, we chose to stay at GCBC for 6 nights to round out our honeymoon. We greatly enjoyed our time and our accommodations. We were in a Ocean Studio w/ Loft and enjoyed the space of a kitchen, living area, and bedroom in the loft area. The grounds are lovely and the views across Grand Case Bay and to Angullia are wonderful. We ate the complimentary breakfast (pastries) each morning at the Sunset Cafe and paid to order omelets a couple times. We also had lunch a few times there and enjoyed every meal. All non-motorized watersports items (kayaks, paddleboards, floats, etc) are complimentary and were great at the (mostly) private beach. For dinner each night, we walked into town and sampled the fine cuisine of Grand Case. Would gladly return.

Room Tip: The Ocean View w/ Loft room was especially enjoyable. We stayed in room 217 and loved it.

Our family booked a trip through Costco that included the GCBC. Not sure that we saved any money through Costco but definitely got exceptional accommodations and treatment. They upgraded us to amazing rooms - our teens got a 2-story, 2 bedroom condo-style layout, while ours was a fabulous one-bedroom full kitchen and dining room combo. The finishes were gorgeous. The grounds have lush foliage, the views are exceptional, and the restaurant features delicious food and drinks overlooking the water. The GCBC escapes a 5 rating only because the European complementary breakfast is just pastries but they do have a full breakfast menu. The views are exceptional and the restaurant has a latte machine for us coffee-dependent types. Ben will happily fix you up with complimentary kayaks and snorkel gear or floaties. Very convenient to town - you'd have to stay a month to eat at all the amazing (sometimes pricey) restaurants within a 5-10 minute walk. We particularly liked La Shambala's desserts and resort-like atmosphere. Stephane at Le Soleil treated us to delicious homemade run apertifs and everyone agreed the lobster risotto was definitely worth every penny.

Room Tip: The double-bedroom 2-story condo-like accommodations are great for families and couples traveling to...

We stayed at GCBC in December and loved the place. The staff was friendly and responsive; our top floor ocean view room was very clean and comfortable, with a beautiful view of the water, and was equipped with full-size refrigerator and microwave, which was helpful. The nearby private beach was quiet and beautiful, with friendly food and bar service available from the restaurant, and a modest but good assortment of non-motorized watersport equipment available at no cost (kayaks, noodles, floating mats, etc.).

Although GCBC is just a short walk to a number of wonderful restaurants, we became so fond of the on-site restaurant that we enjoyed most of our dinners there. The gym was simple, but clean and adequately equipped for most needs with updated treadmills, exercise bikes, and LifeFitness weight training machines.

The place was quiet and peaceful; I don't know what the occupancy rate was at the time, or how much the demographic we noticed was due to the time of year (we arrived the day after Thanksgiving and stayed for the week following), but we saw mostly couples in their 30s and older, and just one or two children, and one group of about 10-12 twenty-somethings who appeared to be on the island for a friend's wedding; we saw no large families at all, and I expect most of the party-seeking crowd tends towards the Dutch side of the island anyway.

We loved the simple, friendly, unpretentiousness of the place and would go back in a minute.
