We stayed here for 1 week as we found the reviews on Trip Advisor were great and it did not disappoint.
The resort is clean, staff were all friendly and very helpful. The room was fantastic!
We requested a 1 bedroom garden view but were upgraded to a 1 bedroom loft garden view but we actually had an OK view of the water. The resort is quiet and peaceful.
We rented a car for the week for day trips etc. (I would recommend getting a car for the full week so you don't feel trapped) but this hotel is just down the street from the 'main drag' of the Grand Case restaurants - it's just a short walk so each night we walked into town for dinner - no drinking & driving required.
There are lots of kids on bicycles driving up and down the main street which can be intimidating but there were plenty of police (gendarmes) around to make you feel safe. On our walk back each night, there was always security at the end of the street and you can have an escort if you feel you need it (we never did). Speaking of security - I loved the secure feel of the hotel. You always had to key into the grounds and key out of the grounds and there was ALWAYS security walking the grounds. I'm not sure if they are needed but it did feel good to have them.
The island has lost some beach from previous storms. If you look on the hotel website, you can see a beach on each side of the point when actually there is only 1 side left. It didn't matter, we always had room, chairs, and umbrellas at the beach - the beach staff was always friendly and willing to help. Heck, if you didn't feel like getting up, all you have to do is raise your flag beside your chair and someone will come and assist you - ie. drinks, food, whatever.
This was our first visit to GCBC and definitely not our last. Many people we met have been there 5 or 10 times - that tells you that it is good. Actually, we were laughing around the beach one day saying that we should all give the resort bad reviews so that we could keep this little gem to ourselves but I couldn't to that. I rely on trip advisor too much and I assume others do too.
This resort also has a perfect location to watch the sunset... with many chairs around the 'point' to take advantage of it. We however, only had 1 great sunset while we were there due to the low clouds on the horizon.
Continental breakfast from the Sunset Café is included with your room. It is only coffee, juice, 2 small croissants, 2 very small muffins and 2 chunks of baguette. We actually picked it up each day and included our own yogurt, cereal etc.
There are 2 bakeries in the vicinity. the first one being on a side road in Grand Case and the other one with very delicious pastries was on the main road before you come into Grand Case beside the Pharmacie.
If you are driving in from Philipsburg airport, make sure you have great directions - especially the part coming into Grand Case. The hotel has some directions on their website - though they need to be updated (I mentioned it to them) but it works.
The only semi-negative thing I have about GCBC is that housekeeping wasn't very consistent. They often cleaned our room early but 1 day they hadn't arrived until 4:30 and we even had a 'make up room early' tag on our door. They told us it was a busy day. Some days we had full linen and other days we had to ask for face cloths. OK, these things are manageable so don't let it deter you.
Definitely would return to GCBC!!
