My new husband and I just returned from a perfect honeymoon at Grand Case Beach Club. We booked our flight and hotel through Cheaptickets.com. Initally we were looking at other hotels and once we found this deal, it made everything within our price range. I am so glad we stayed here because looking at the other hotels now, I definitely thought this was the best location. It is a short walk to the restaurant row, has it's own great beach, plenty of chairs to enjoy and amazing sunsets. Other hotels we previously looked at, once we were there, I'm so glad we didn't pick - either too far from the main strip or up on a hill with poor beach access. This place was just exactly what we wanted and perfect. Last year we had stayed at an all inclusive resort in Turks and Caicos, while the beaches were beautiful, we decided on our next vacation we wanted to have our own kitchen to have cheap breakfast and lunch and splurge on a good dinner. GCBC allowed us to do just that. We were in a 2 story ocean view loft. The kitchen was perfect. GCBC offers a great little complementary breakfast but for lunch, we just made a trip to the grocery store at the beginning of the week and made our own little sandwiches and then after a day at the beach, would have cheese and crackers and watch the sun set. It was perfect. We learned that the chinese grocery stores have better prices than the other supermarkets. As a result of eating affordable during the day, we treated ourselves to nice dinners every night (it was our honeymoon so we justified it). My all time favorite, and I read many reviews, but I agree with the locals that told us while we were there, Le Provencal was outstanding. We ate there at the beginning of the week and ate there our last night as well. The trigger fish is amazing and although all the restaurants are pretty good, this one had amzing beachfront views but the food and chef are just awesome. Definitely my number one pick. We also ate at Le Tastevin, they have a nice fixed price menu at 45 euros and pretty views. Il Pressor - for people very knowledgable on the gourmet end, I'm sure this place would impress you, but for me and my hubby, they were a bit snobby and a bit overpriced. The food was good but too small of portions. We also ate at La Spegia, I wouldn't go back there, the food was too fishy. I think if you stick with the beachfront restaurants you can't go wrong but by all means, place Le Provencal at the top of your list to eat, you won't be disappointed!
After dinner, we enjoyed a lot of the beach front bars for an after diner drink. For us, it was perfect just to have a nice long dinner, maybe an additional drink, and then off to bed at a reasonable hour. If you want to do something cheaper (most of those restaurants just mentioned were $150 - 200, that included a bottle of wine, salad or appetizer, entree and dessert). There are plenty of cheaper restaurants and one we enjoyed are the local flavor LoLo. It's in the middle of town and you can't miss it. They BBQ ribs, chicken etc and for about 10 bucks you can get a big meal. Their beer is also only $1.
Make sure to take lots of cash because some will you give you a better rate for cash dollars or maybe even 1e = 1$. If you use credit, you're definitely going to get the current unfavorable rate.
We also rented a car and this is the one thing I would change. We were so pleased with our hotel, I don't think it was necessary to have a car. We did explore the island a little bit. I had envisioned going to remote beaches and packing a picnic but looking at other beaches, you had to pay for chairs and it just seemed more of a hassel when our own beach at GCBC was relaxed, calm and free chairs. So we ended up only using our perfect little beach. Also, don't fill up the gas tank - my husband did even though I told him not too, and sure enough, we barely used any gas at all. If you decide to forego a car, we found out that a taxi ride from the airport was only $25. We did venture to Marigot and Oyster Pond as well. Marigot was neat with all the yachts and shopping, but we were spending our money on food, not shopping, so once again, we didn't really need the car.
Oh - we also took one day trip to Prickly Pear on the Scoobi Too and that was a long day trip worth the money. It goes out to an uninhabited island, Snorkeling was okay but it was a nice change and would reccommend that as well!
But once again, GCBC was beautiful - awesome air conditioning (another big plus for my husband) beautiful grounds, friendly people and guests, comfortable beds - we would go back and do everything exaclty the same except maybe eat at Le Provencal every night, haha, and not rent a car.
