“All around lovely”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2012

We had a wonderful time at this lovely hotel right on the beach. Our unit was attractively furnished, spacious, modern and very clean. Spectacular view from the balcony overlooking the Bay. The king size beds with their many pillows were so comfortable. A bottle of wine and fresh flowers tucked all over welcomed us when we arrived. The staff at the reception, housekeeping and security were all friendly and professional. We were also invited to a free sunset reception with drinks and hors d'oeuvres. The food at the Sunset Cafe was excellent and the setting just what you want in a low key Caribbean vacation. The charming little town of Grand Case and many good restaurants were in walking distance.

Room Tip: Select a oceanview room. One building is currently being renovated.

This hotel was great! The staff was very friendly and our room was very clean. We had a beautiful view from our room and the beach was a perfect spot for relaxing. The restaurant on site was okay but there were many great restaurants in walking distance from the hotel. I would highly reccomend this hotel to anyone vacationing in St. Martin!

Only stayed here one night since we were setting sail the next day. We had a great experience! Everyone who worked there was very pleasant. Exceptional customer service! We had a bottle of wine waiting for us upon arrival. Nice complimentary continental breakfast in the morning, Great room right on the beach with an Ocean view. Very Clean also. I would definitely come back!

My husband and I stayed for 10 nights in the one bedroom ocean front room in July. Our room was clean and updated. The view from our balcony was stunning. Enjoyed the food and service in restaurant. Perfect beach areas, plenty of chairs, small but uncrowded pool was sufficient. Easy walk into town for dinner. We especially enjoyed Spiga and Talk of the Town for ribs. Also, Calmos Cafe for lunch with your feet in the sand. Never felt unsafe walking or driving. The grounds at GCBC are immaculate and the boardwalk around the restaurant provides many places for privacy and relaxation. Sunsets from beach were spectacular. We could not be happier with our decision to stay here and would highly reccomend this hotel to everyone.

We honeymooned at this hotel 12 years ago, and it's as comfortable and clean as it was back then. The units have been updated, and our unit, a duplex with an ocean view, was immaculate. The office staff is helpful and pleasant to deal with, and the on-premises restaurant is wonderful. (We got free continental breakfasts every day, with pastries to die for.) Staying at this hotel affords us the ability to walk into the town of Grand Case, where there are gourmet restaurants. No worries about having to find a parking spot! The private beach is clean an secure, and there is a new elevated area with lounges and benches overlooking the water. This hotel was a good idea 12 years ago, and it was a good idea last month!

Room Tip: We were in room 54, and it was a good location. Rooms 53 and 55 would also work for us. These room...

We just today left GCBC and were not sorry to be going. Last May we,booked a basic room directly on the GCBC web site. About a month later we wrote to see if a one bedroom ocean front would be available. On purpose we chose the one bedroom NOT the studio with loft as we did not want to deal with stairs. We were assured it was and based on the GCBC web site pictures of the bright one (floor) one bedroom we upgraded. When we arrived we were given a two floor cave like room with one semi working shower. Room 709. we did not bring the bags in, went directly down to the front desk to let them know we had paid for a one bedroom not a studio with a loft - Christine looked at us like we were crazy and started bullying us with "that is a one bedroom..no! no! it is a one bedroom". I had a meeting with Steve the GM - as i knew this type of thing was a regular complaint onTripadvisor and he typically writes a semi apology response (see below). He was less help than Christine and NOTHING was offered or done to rectify this situation. I showed another guests who was in a bright shiny one bedroom our room 709 and she GASPED when she saw the bathroom. We did all the "right" things (booked directly, wrote the email..) and were in a hovel for a WEEK. Here is the bottom line: this property is like a 2nd or 3rd tier country club... food is ok if you stick with burger type stuff... beds are lumpy.. linens are threadbare... BUT it is the only hotel type place on a beach in Grand Case. And Grand Case is an ok place to be for St Martin. Be ready to be nickled-dimed (ie. you have to bring your thread bare dirty beach towel to the front desk each day to get a new one, the "breakfast" is a joke) but you are able to hang out on the beach and walk to great food in the evening. There are tons of returning guests everyone was so nice -which lends itself to the country club feel. OH - AND the thing about the water sports being included - that is close to a complete falsehood. ALL the trips etc cost $$$ my husband paid $10 for snorkel equipment. We never really figured out the euros/service incl or not at the restaurants in town and I caught a couple of major errors in bills in town - not in our favor. Be ware, We are tonight happily ensconsed at the Frangipani in Anguilla - we like nice hotels, GCBC is not it.

Room Tip: Room 709 is narrow dark and the bathrooms are disgusting

Without Apology!

We are very proud that we are one of the top rated hotels based on guest reviews on the island, and very recently, we were the only one chosen as one of the Top 500 Hotels (Worldwide) out of the 135,000+ hotels that are available through Expedia. We have achieved this by hard work and fulfillment of our guest’s expectations. Of course, we do not succeed 100% of the time, but in the eyes (and reviews) of the huge majority of our guests, we thrive.

You have mentioned my “half apologies”, but in this case, there is absolutely nothing that we need to be apologetic for. You received a one bedroom apartment, as you had booked. It is a beautiful unit with patios on each level and magnificent views down the beach and on to Creole Rock and Anguilla. The unit has two bathrooms, one that was newly renovated last year, and the other a couple of years before. Top quality mattresses were placed throughout the property about a year ago and our terry and bed linens are certainly not threadbare. You mistakenly assumed that you were in a Studio Loft, and would not hear otherwise. When you arrived there was not other available one bedroom unit, and when offered a move to another unit when it became available, you categorically refused. The Sunset Café Continental Breakfast is a simple offering that anyone can augment by adding additional items on the menu. The Complimentary Non-Motorized Water-Sports are precisely that, and that you would assume that day trips to neighboring islands be free is quite a leap. You sought to receive “compensation” for our error. As we did not make one, I saw no need to compensate. If a mistake is made, we own up to it, learn from it and improve. We believe that the guest is always right….that is unless they are utterly wrong.

We enjoyed our time at Grand Case Beach Club. We made the best of our stay during a tropical storm that lasted four days. Even with the bad weather we were able to swim . The grounds were nice however the buildings are dated but they are renovating. We would walk to the town on a dirt road for lunch, and dinner. One night the four of us went to dinner at Le Soleil. It is on the water open air. We were having a lovely time. Then we got sand thrown at the back of my head and my sister in her face and it landed all over or food and drinks . I turned aound to see three local teens running away. I ran out front to catch them then relized I am in a foriegn place and I didnt want the whole village in an uprise. I returned to the table only to be greeted by the host with wine, rum and the most delious steak.

Overall we lucked out in the area we were staying as the cove protected us from the elements. We have been to St Maarten once before and stayed at Orient Beach. Although Grand Case is well guarded so we felt safe there. Grand Case itself is very ruin down and shady.

Room Tip: Try to get a room with water view. View from ours was drainage pipes in front and barbwire fence in...
