“Fantastic Property”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2014 via mobile

We spent a week at the Villas, and loved it. We had a 1 bedroom suite, and it was everything you could want. Tons of room, nice kitchen, big bathroom, 2 sinks, and big bedroom. The balcony wraps around the living room and bedroom, beautiful ocean view. The area is perfect, restaurants, bars, and good times. You don't need to rent a car, everything you need is within a 15 minute walk, and we used a taxi when we wanted to venture out of the area. The beach at the end of the resort was beautiful. We love beautiful beaches, and prior to our trip I thought we would have to travel off property to be happy at a beach. Although we did go to Orient and Maho, the beach on site was everything you could want. Two restaurants, cheap drinks, and the beach itself was so nice. The best value is a 1bedroom suite, huge deck, and more than enough room. Love the Villas, just booked two weeks same time next year.Marcel and his staff were fantastic. Sharon, the lady that cleaned our suite was so lovely. I gave her a few bucks every day, she was so appreciative.
If you are looking for Jewelry, Kevin, from Splash has a store in the lobby, and he will look after you. We have shopped all over the Caribbean, and we were most happy with Kevin and the beautiful earrings he made for my Wife. Can't wait for next year.

The Villas at Simpson Bay are not actually villas but a regular hotel room with a tiny balcony overlooking the ocean. The building is brand new, which is the only nice thing about this so called hotel. The rooms are brand new and therefore they are very nice and clean. We were in a junior suite with a tiny kitchenette. We had a little bar sink, a fridge, a microwave, a toaster and a coffee machine with no coffee or any other condiments for the coffee. The balcony is so small that they have barely fit two lounge chairs but there's no way getting around those. And that's all the good stuff that I can say about this place. ‎

The customer service is non existent. The staff doesn't care about the guests at all. They are in no way inclined to help out or assist with any requests. They don't know what a smile is.

The check in time starts at 4pm and they say the check out time is at 10am but housekeeping starts knocking on your door at 9am!

They give you a towel card to use towels, but you get your towels way off property for some weird reason, and that place/dive shop/regular shop closes at 5pm, so after 5pm, you are not getting a towel for the pool! I went and tried to get one from the front desk, but they informed me that the only place where I could get a towel was from the shop, which now was close and that was it. They said there was nothing they could do :).

The place is full of rules so beware of how you behave.

I would try very hard not to return to this place if visiting St. Maarten again. ‎

This a very clean and nice villa, with convenience to local bars and restaurants within walking distance. It is an expensive place to stay with average service at best. Paying guests are charged to use the gym. We were drawn to this resort based on the pool bar and that service was poor. The front desk staff was average at best with assisting guests. I had a problem with making a vital phone call and they were short when trying to assist me, even after they provided me the incorrect dialing code the first time. It is a beautiful place to stay and could be so much more with improved customer service.

The Villas at Simpson Bay once again provided a wonderful stay for our vacation. Beware that some reviews are of the older portion of the resort and not the Villas. The villas are only a few years old. The rooms were clean and everything was just as it was expected. Pool bar service was great as always.

Room Tip: Third floor is the same as the parking level. Rooms away from Buccaneer Beach Bar are more desirabl...

We booked here for the first 3 nights of a planned 2 week visit. It was expensive, but the weekend we arrived was the Heineken Regatta so a lot of places were booked out. It turns out its a time share resort, so no amenities like a normal hotel, but for over $300AUD per night (room only) we expected more - especially in terms of room and bathroom amenities. We arrived at 10pm after a long flight from Australia and there was no bar open, and no tea or coffee in the room, no resort information in the room. When we went downstairs on our first morning to get a map and ask about activities the concierge desk said - oh, they didn't give you a welcome kit, so we had missed out on the briefing for the weeks activities and the once per week island bus tour.... when I asked the receptionist later in the day about the lack of information on arrival she said there should be a book in our room but wasn't about to give us one. Fortunately we have arranged alternative accommodation for the rest of our visit at 1/3 the price.

We stayed in a junior site which is the smaller of the 2 units when then they split the whole unit.

We were up on the 8th floor which had very nice views. All rooms in the Villas face the bay.

Room size was reasonable. Two double beds, small balcony (wish it had been much bigger), double sinks, bath area, and very small kitchenette. The kitchenette in the junior suite is just a microwave, small bar fridge, sink and 2 sets of dishes. So, good for light breakfast, cooling some drinks, but not much else. Furnishings were okay. Elevators are pretty slow which can be a pain depending on your need.

Our check-in process was okay. Took a bit of time, but not too terrible. Little bit of a soft sell for a timeshare presentation but they weren't pushy at all. Its not quite high end hotel customer service but was okay for what we needed.

Parking can be a bit of a challenge if you get back from dinner later at night. There are a number of restaurants within walking distance but we usually ventured out for better restaurant options. Crave is a short walk and we had a couple of very nice meals there. Had a lunch and light dinner at the Green House which was okay. Had much nicer dinners on the French side of the island.

Housecleaning was okay. Think they do a light clean daily (towels, make beds) and a deeper clean twice a week. They need to do away with the bedspreads though as I'm always worried how nasty those things might be.

If you're at the 'right' end of the hotel (nearer the Green House restaurant) you can get some bar noise from beach bar.

Pool liked okay, but we were also out and about at a beach during the day. No real beach at the Villas, but there is supposedly own further down at one of the other properties.

Some of the other resort buildings didn't look too appealing on the outside. Definitely recommend staying in the Villas, the main building.

If you want to be within walking distance from a number of restaurants and shops it is in a good location. If you're looking for a more peaceful quiet vacation I would suggest another location.

There are two good features about this property and the rest, awful.

1.Great location, close to fun bars, good restaurants, nice beaches, truly the heart of Simpson Bay.

2. The pool and exterior of the property was very well maintained and up to date.

Negatives:

The room was outdated with regards to décor, amenities, appliances...the bathtub didn't drain which meant halfway through your shower you would be up past your ankles in your own dirty water, there were old shower curtains(smelly musty rubber), old TV's, flat cheap pillows. There was an extremely loud bathroom fan that didn't actually remove the steam but sounded like you were taking a shower in a factory, it could not be turned off as it automatically turned on when the light was on.

The maids didn't clean the room properly unless you left $$ everyday.

They made us pack all our belongings including all our food and beverages in the fridge and move to another room halfway through our visit to accommodate other travellers(owners of the timeshare). Apparently if you are there for a week this is guaranteed to happen. Trust me, packing an entire room and moving in the middle of a vacation sucks!

The resort is very boring, the crowd was very old and mostly retirees, the lobby bar was empty always which gave the lobby a cold vibe. This was probably due to the annoying timeshare salespeople that were always in the middle of the lobby interrupting you as you passed by and lack of service at the bar. Even the people at the activities information counter would try to sign you up for presentations so it was a hassle to even go there and ask questions about the island.

There wasn't any drinking water on the entire property from either filtered watercolors, free bottles in the room or for purchase at any restaurant or store. Our room had no ice and the hotel didn't have ice machines. The hotel staff said we should just drink the tap water like everyone else that lives on the island....well we did for 1st 2 days and ended up sick. The people that live there are used to the water and have developed the correct stomach floro to drink the water, such is not the case for travellers ant they should accommodate.

We complained to management about the room issues and they didn't help whatsoever.

The restaurant was not a decent proper restaurant, it was very obvious it was a makeshift place where they would bribe travellers with a free meal to get them to go to the timeshare presentations.

The list goes on!

Overall this hotel does not know how to run the business like a hotel, it is not customer service orientated, it is a timeshare building with a front desk and a pool....period. The property is misrepresented as a hotel on the travel websites.
I'm quite sure the people writing good reviews on here are old and boring themselves with low expectations or they are owners of the timeshare and do not want to see their asset slip in value.
This property needs a major overhaul with regards to the rooms and management.

Room Tip: The King 1 bedroom suite is a hundred times better than the room with 2 double beds, it is still out...
