“Great laid back, comfortable atmosphere!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2014

Friends have been staying here every year, and now we see why. Right on the beach, walking distance to market, studio kitchen, and optional cocktails on the beach with other guests make this like staying in our own neighborhood. Comfortable bed, clean, and nice to have a sitting room. Hosts are super accommodating, and provide a downstairs shower & changing room so you can enjoy the beach as long as possible after checking out but before heading to the airport on your last day. Other plusses - hammock, plus community room with computer & TV.

Quiet except for the occasional planes flying nearby (which we loved, thought it was a bonus to get to see them close up and the noise was never when we were trying to sleep).

Room Tip: We liked the upper room toward the back (#7?) which has a partial view of the beach, separate indoor...

There is no pool. But you can swim in the ocean. It is right on the beach. Look out your window directly at the turquoise waters. The door is 36 inches from the sand. The beach is just down the steps about 50 feet away. There are beach chairs and they loaned us an umbrella. There is no tv, But there were lots of books in the room. We never had time for tv anyway. This is a quaint little place. It's not fancy but it was clean. We never saw a bug in the room. Our kitchenette had everything we needed including a cork screw. The staff is friendly and helpful. It is near the airport but there were not enough big planes taking off to bother us. The location is convenient to many restaurants. We liked Traverna, Pineapple Pete’s and Toppers. If you take the ferry to Anguilla, for a great island tour call 264.729.7002 ask for “Rat”. He knows all the best places on the island.Including the best barbque. This was a highlight of the trip. Advice about the island - always wear insect repellant. You can't see the misquitos.

My husband and I just returned from our stay at the Horny Toad Guest House and are so happy we decided to stay there for our vacation. Betty and Phil make you feel welcomed as soon as you arrive. I did not feel as though I was meeting them for the first time.We stayed in unit 5. There is plenty of room . I loved the how the shower stall is placed near the trees. The bed was huge and comfy. The guesthouse is located on Simpson Bay . I feel it is the best beach on the island. We never had to worry about putting towels on a chair first thing in the morning. Each unit has its own chairs. Every morning I literally walked out the door onto the sand , sat in my chair overlooking the water and drank my coffee. It was so relaxing. We rented a car because we love traveling around the island. There are many restaurants walking distance if you do not want to rent a car. There was social hour each day which gave us a chance to meet some very nice people from all over. It was nice sharing what restaurants and beaches we had gone too. If you are looking for a nice quiet relaxing vacation in paradise then The Horny Toad is the place to go......

Room Tip: We had a room on the lower level which is right on the sand but the upper level has awesome views al...

My husband and I went away to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary.
When I heard the guesthouse was by the airport I honestly was concerned. Yes you do hear jets but it is seconds that it lasts and it is not all day. You are right on the beach with that beautiful water and sunshine in paradise so how can you complain? The hosts are very friendly and helpful. The staff left our place everyday clean and comfy. I like the fact that there are no little kids running around. I love kids
but when you want to just sit and drink and relax in quiet you will can do that here.

Room Tip: The roundhouse is nice but I wish I had a room in the building right in front.

Cant stop telling people what a great time we had here! Hosts Betty and Phil are awesome. By the time we left we felt like we were leaving home. Almost everyone staying there were repeat guests from past years and already knew each other and welcomed us as if we were old friends. Some high lights: Optional Happy Hour on the veranda- bring a snack to share, a cold beverage and a good story from your day on the island. Snorkeling on the beach out front- You cant tell by looking at it, but just to the right a little ways down the beach there is some coral that is home to Nemo and a couple hundred of his friends, stopped by everyday to see them! Sunset Bar and Grill- great food, drinks, people watching and as close to getting hit in the head by a commercial jet plane as you will get! The KLM 747(Big Blue) is the prize to see, usually comes in around a little before noon. I could go on and on... Quiet, relaxing, privacy if/when you prefer, super clean rooms, walking distance to everything you will need, super staff, and just great people and in my opinion Simpson Bay is the best stretch of beach on the island. We hit a home run on this pick. Cant wait to get back and make more Red Flannel hash for the gang!

We loved our stay at the Horny Toad Guesthouse. The staff and regular guests were so friendly and made us feel right at home from the start. The daily cocktail hour was a great time to get the scoop on what to do and where to go. The beach in front of the property was beautiful and with a short walk you could either be in town or at a couple of great beach bar/restaurants. We were a bit concerned about the proximity to the airport but it actually turned out to be one of the biggest assets since we could walk down the beach and through a neighborhood to be at the Sunset Bar to watch the planes land. We ended up renting a car for a couple of days to tour the island but we really managed to adventure quite a bit within walking distance. If you are looking for low key place to hang on the beach and do your own thing the HTGH is a fantastic place. I have been to many locales in the Caribbean but this is the first place I have ever vowed to return for another visit!

My husband and I had a great time staying here. We were in the upstairs room with a balcony and front facing to the beach. It was awesome. We spent mornings on the balcony with our coffee enjoying the view and lovely weather and evenings with a glass of wine on the balcony as well. Our room didn't have much seating inside, but with a huge balcony with a table, 2 chairs, and also 2 lounge chairs, who needs to sit inside? We went in January and every day was 80 degrees and sunny. The beach right off the hotel was great for swimming, not cold at all and had a very sandy bottom. The place was clean and the daily made service was great. Very friendly staff. I can't say enough about the relaxing atmosphere here. There is a cute beach bar and restaurant right on the beach a couple of blocks down that you can walk to. There are lots of good restaurants within 1 or 2 miles. Also, plenty of grocery stores around if you want to cook or keep food/drinks in your room. (This island takes American dollars and everyone speaks English. Also, our credit card did not have a foreign fee charge, because it was charged in dollars. Nice surprise!) Many of the guests return the same weeks every year, so most of the other couples all knew each other. There is a gathering place where most of the guests meet to watch the sunset and bring appetizers to share. Very welcoming, even to us newbies. I hope to return to St. Maarten and would definitely stay here again, maybe even next year!

Room Tip: Definitely rent a car. Bring a laptop since room has free WiFi. There is no TV or phone in room, w...
