“A great carribean getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2014

The Azure Hotel is everything you could possibly ask for! Steps from the ocean, you could hear the waves crashing all night! Michael was the perfect host, always inquring if there was anything we needed, was full of helpful suggestions, answered all our numerous questions about the island and the best things to see and do. The room was wonderful; painted in bright cheerful colors and contained the artwork of Michael and his wife. The rooms were cleaned everyday and were spotless, and everyone was so nice and friendly. I can completely and honestly say I cannot think of a place I could have enjoyed staying at more! So ready to go back!

We stayed at The Azure 06/28 through 07/06, and had a great time. Michael and Fawnette are great host. Michael provided us with a list of great restaurants, and tours. The room was spotless everyday. The beach was only a few steps from the rear door, and was beautiful. I would highly recommend this property.

Room Tip: Cannot go wrong with the Garden Suite.

If you're looking for down-island relaxation, far away from the craziness of a resort, this place is it. Owner Michael went above and beyond making sure our 6-day stay was fabulous, and the staff was over-the-top helpful and polite. The beach is post-card worthy. Highly recommend this property.

Dear Guest,
thank you so much for writing the lovely review! The longer we are in business the more we realise that our location, staff, building and what we do are only part of what makes the Azure a special place. The other part is the wonderful and happy visitors that bring it all to life. It was a pleasure having you stay with us and we hope to see you again soon!
Sunny regards,
Fawnette, Michael and Sky :)

What a perfect place to stay.
Mike was immediately helpful, he stepped in as our taxi driver was trying to charge us double because he had a difficult time finding this hotel. Mike very plainly told the driver "that's not cool." The driver changed his mind and that saved us $20!
We even arrived sooner than check in and Mike allowed us into our room to freshen up and drop off our stuff - SO appreciated after a 4 hour ferry commute from St. Kitts.
Our room was small and perfect, you don't need much when you are staying that close to the water. We really enjoyed the beautiful patio complete with wifi and Mike's list of recommended restaurants on island. He told us to definitely walk to Karactor from your hotel room and order a guava berry colada!!! Perfect.
I wish our A/C would have had the ability to get colder. We both found ourselves stirring in the night from the heat which left us with a just so-so sleep.

Room Tip: Tell the owner of the hotel you are thinking of renting a car and he can get you a good deal at one...

Stayed one night at Azure after arriving late at SXM airport with departure the next day. Michael made it so easy to make a reservation and checked me in. The room was perfect for me and is right on the beach. Great location and great service too. I wish I could have stayed longer! Thank you Michael and Azure.

Room Tip: Just ask Michael what you are looking for.

What an amzing place to spend our honeymoon! I want this to be as helpful as possible to people so I will get down to the basics. The location is the best on the island. Simpson Bay is a quiet beach lined with small homes and small hotels/inns. No mega resorts or beach bars (there are a couple of beach bars at the very end of the beach, Mary Boone and Karakter. Both are super classy, friendly, and lovely!). It is an idyllic, Caribbean bay where locals and tourists quietly walk on the beach, boats moor off the shore, and the waves gently crash onto the sand. It is a 5 minute drive from the airport and all of the rental car spots are on the way. It is also a short walk/drive into the town of Simpson Bay where there is a great grocery store (with super cheap prices on just about everything but veggies), plenty of small French bakeries, some solid restaurants, and bars. We left Simpson Bay a few times to explore other parts of the island and were really only a 15 minute drive from Marigot and Phillipsburg.

Now, the one thing about the location that we loved, but others may not, was the proximity to the runway of the airport. This is a small, island airport. There are only a handful of big jets everyday. Most of the planes were small island hoppers, charters, or private planes and there were maybe 5 an hour. WE LOVED THIS! We could watch planes take off from the beach through the trees and houses. The beach isn't right on the runway and it doesn't feel dirty or gross or anything. It's actually awesome. You do hear a few planes but, 90% of the time, it is so quiet. And like I said, it's pretty awesome to watch the small planes overhead! But, if you think you hate planes, don't stay here an then write a bad review! If you don't stay here though, you are seriously missing out.

We stayed in two rooms becasue we extended our stay on the fly. The first room, Room #6, had a king sized bed, a dining table, a kitchenette, and a sizeable closet. It is right on a patio that is literally on the beach. It was 20 steps from our door to the sand and another 40 to the water. My husband wasn't a beach fan before the trip, but we spent almost every second we were here in the water and on the patio becasue of its proximity to our room. The second room, #7, was a bit smaller but, there was a window that overlooked the water and it was just as clean and cute as the first room. All in all, the rooms are cute, clean, and well appointed for a small inn. We had all of the kitchen stuff we needed and access to a sweet Webber grill and a small cooler to take around the island. The rooms are not fancy. This is not the Westin. It's better. It's like a home away from home. It's like renting a beach house. And we loved it. I gave it a 4 for sleep because the beds were a little harder than I'm used to, but others might love this. They were super comfy overall though and I love that we had enough pillows :) Oh, and there is free Wi-Fi which is awesome, and free International Calls (gasp!), which was helpful to make some calls when we extended our stay!

Mike and Fawnette and their adorable daughter live right on premises and had loads of great suggestions for what to do. They connected us wuth a sunset cruise on an old sailing vessel called the Passat owned by this great Dutch couple. They also gave us a great list of restaurants, snorkling holes, and even some good, cheap wine suggestions from the corner store.

All in all, The Azure Hotel experience was perfect. They were great, the beach is fantastic, and we've already decided to do this again and again. Even with a family, it would be perfect!

In an area full of big resorts directed to massive tourism, this little hotel stands out as a gem. In a few words, the property is unique, charming, relaxing, affordable and extremely conventient.

Location:

Seven minute drive from the airport, two minute walk to a small convenience store where you can get all your basics (snacks, coffee, milk and of course beer and rum) and a ten minute walk down the beach to two very good restaurants.

Some reviewers complain about the airplanes noise. In fact, we loved hearing the airplanes and seeing them fly ove our heads while laying down on our beach loungers. At night, we did not hear any planes nor did they bother us in the morning. We simply could not hear them inside our room.

Accommodations:

Very clean, comfortable beds, large flat screen T.V., well appointed, and again, unique. We stayed in the caribbean suite and it had everything we needed including a small but sufficient kitchenette, safe, nice artwork by Michael (the owner) and furniture in good condition. The best part, though, is that our room had two doors; one leading to the garden and one leading to the beach. We could literally walk 20 feet and be on the beach!

Beach:

Simpson Bay is simply beautiful and uncrowded (see the photos).

Service:

Michael was there to greet us when we arrived and explained how everything worked in the room. Since he lives on the property, he is always there in case you need his assistance and he is a very helpful gentleman.

If you want the massive resort feel with constant entertainment, pool, gym and five star restaurants on property, the Azure is not for you. But if you want to stay in a quaint, charming and relaxing place on a beautiful beach, go to the Azure. You won't be disappointed. In fact, the Azure is the reason why my wife and I fell in love with St. Martin again after two disappointing visits in the past four years.

We look forward to staying here again!

Room Tip: The caribbean suite is great
