I needed to book an inexpensive hotel for just one night as a scheduling problem brought us to St Martin a day earlier than we planned. I booked this hotel thru Expedia. Let me just say this.. This place is only for the most budget conscious people on the earth. This hotel used to be the Governors Inn or something like that. The taxi drivers at the airport didnt even know where this was until we worked out that it used to have a different name. We arrived after dark and there is a steel gate over the door and the night desk guy yells to you what the code to punch in is. Not the best of starts! They did have my reservation ( not that they couldnt have got us a room anyway ) and regardless of what I think of the hotel ALL of the people working there are pleasant and really do try to help you. You only get one key for your room. We were on the second floor - we unlocked our bright red steel door and wha-la! This place is basically a flophouse. The walls are concrete blocks - our room was painted the brightest yellow you can imagine. There is nothing ( not even pictures) but 2 dubious beds, a homemade looking closet rod and shelf and a bathroom. The "nightstands" are a plywood extension on the side of your bed that matches the lovely plywood box that surrounds the light bulb over each bed. I will say this - the place was clean. The entire bathroom was scrubbed as clean as your mother would have done. I never saw any bugs either and there is a wall unit air conditioner. There is a restaurant downstairs - and the lobby area looks a little shabby but is tropical and kinda cute. To sum it up - Great people, great price - bare minimum hotel. Stay here again? No!
