“Great Experience, Good Value, Solid Choice, Would go Back”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2010

Just returned from our first stay at this hotel and had a great time. This hotel has a lot to offer but is definitely not for everyone. All things considered, it’s a simple place. It does not have a spa, has one fairly basic restaurant serving 3 meals per day, a very small, underused bar, and a tiny “gym” that’s more like a room with 4 pieces of equipment. However, it is RIGHT on the ocean, which is amazing, and more then half the rooms have an ocean view (I highly recommend paying for the upgrade). It has a small, well-maintained beach that never feels crowded even when all the chairs are full. My favorite part was the sunning deck/pier that sticks out into the ocean a bit from the hotel and is great for daytime use to get a tan or to see the stars at night. The rooms were clean and fairly big with good size bathrooms and a tub/shower. The folks at the front desk were really nice and spoke fluent English so communication was never a problem. It’s an easy, flat walk into Marigot for shopping at the market or to a group of restaurants at the pier. Even though it’s right on the main road, we hardly ever heard the traffic. I would recommend this hotel to people looking for a good value with things to do nearby but not for people looking for luxury or to be pampered. We will be back!

I stayed at this hotel for a long weekend. While it is not a luxury hotel, It was Super Clean and the rooms were spacious. Be sure to get an Ocean Front Room, the other rooms overlook a busy not so pretty street.

Within easy walking distance to Marigot. Extremely close to nice restaurants at the marinas, the Marigot market and numerous jewelery stores. Nice and clean, the service was excellent. The beach (small) and pool (not heated) leave a little to be desired.
Avoid the Sidro United Car Rental which runs out of the lobby. The cars are expensive, old, dinged up, and run poorly. We were overcharged. The daily rate was agreed in U.S. $$$ but charged in euros, even though it clearly was written on the contract. I contacted them later, sent a copy of the invoice, but they just stopped answering my emails.

I have stayed at the Beach Plaza in january for the last three years - after the first two I vowed not to go back ,especially with a room looking on to the busy road - but last year all these rooms had been refurbished & with the windows shut there is no noise whatsoever. The included breakfast (I don't know why some travellers call it "free"!) was plentiful in quantity but not quality - but then I'm British living in France & not American. Fruit juice very watered down - in fact, if one arrived at the last minute only water came out of the machine! But these are details - For someone who knows Saint Martin & just wants to be lazy on the beach this hotel is more or less perfect but even then the beach is not first class for children. It's easy to get a bus & taxis are not really expensive. The rooms were very clean & the housemaids & other staff pleasant. The restaurant is fine for people who are looking out for french food (but if you live in Paris as I do - well, it's no more than the equivalent of a fairly good paris restaurant.) In 2007 there was an excellent Carribean evening which had disappeared in 2008 to be replaced by a lobster evening - incidentally ,the best place to sample lobster at Saint Martin is the Ile Pinel. To my mind there were not enough local dishes (in fact only 2-3 local which were never changed) - several other diners were disappointed too. There's a little store quite near where one can buy a picnic lunch to eat on the beach - indeed there's a "snack" by the swimming pool (very clean but no parasols or shade) but not much choice and very expensive. All the same - I shall be going back to Beach Plaza in the coming winter!

If you like to be in the center of activity on the French side of the island, then Marigot and Hotel Beach Plaza are good choices. Given that we traveled often to Grand Case for the restaurants and the overall quality of the Grand Case Beach Club, we probably should have stayed at the Beach Club. There were several problems with Hotel Beach Plaza: the airconditioners in the central buidling made periodic bangs and kept us awake at night. Apparently that is true of all the A/C's in the central buidling.. We changed rooms to the left wing, and the AC worked fine. There is a large pool, without any shade--no umbrellas, no awnings--so sitting there except in the late afternoon was improssible. And finally, many of the staff seemed indifferent and unfriendly, though there were outstanding exceptions. The breakfasts, the location, the housekeeping, the comfort of the room were all posiltive. We paid more for the harbor side room and enjoyed the view of the harbor. The other side faces a noisy street and a boat yard. The hotel says the rooms have been insulated from the noise.
